Fun, fun, fun, The Newsagent's was worth the wait! Located in the classic Mahler building, they've done a phenomenal job turning the space into a haven for people who love classic, kitschy books, comic books, music and movies. Grab a coffee at the cart in the center and start browsing around. So much love and effort was put into this space, all the media/magazines/books are lovingly presented for sale. Move through multiple rooms with a different focus on media types and then explore the second floor landing and experience a cozy reading nook. A very cool spot for downtown Raleigh, drop in and be amazed!

This place might be my new spot to hang out and enjoy some nostalgic reads in Raleigh. They have coffee, vinyl records, classic comic books, and used novels for sale. There is a lot of space for sitting around and reading or hanging out, and I felt welcomed in the space. I stumbled upon books that I had read growing up and hadn't thought about in years so it was a nice blast from the past. I didn't end up purchasing any items, but prices looked reasonable for the value of the items sold.

Vinyl

This is one of those hidden gems that are all too infrequent. When you find a special place, you know it. If you're a lover of bookstores, vintage, vinyl, comics...this is your next favorite spot. It's got special nooks, a mini cafe, an upstairs lounge, and even a spot to play old school video games.

Love this shop! Has everything a collector of things could want. I wish it was open past 5 though so I could go all the time after work.

Stopped by Blackbird Books & Coffee and wow it didn't disappoint! There is a coffee shop located in…read morethe back of the coffee shop. When you arrive parking is tough in this area as it is near Moore square. I'd recommend parking a couple blocks away and walking or parking in a nearby garage. Walking in the book/coffee shop feels inclusive, cozy, and vibrant/community focused. There's also a section of banned books which is great to see and really highlights the progressive bookshelves. For coffee I ordered the Banana Pudding Latte which has banana puree and nilla wafers. It was so refreshing to order this iced on a hot day and the banana flavor wasn't overpowering. Definitely check out the Blackbird book/coffee shop if you are in the local Raleigh area.

So glad my sis scoped out a few spots to enjoy on some down time while in Raleigh. First stop -…read moreBlackbird Books & Coffee for some morning lattes and bookshop shopping. Perfect choice! This shop is nestled into the small streets of DT Raleigh in a charming way, like a corner in Diagon alley. It's walking distance from a park and many eateries. We all ordered pastries and lattes, then shopped for stickers and books. There's a table near the front and some more in the back by the cafe. Fun, curated collections of books and zines that we really appreciated. My hot oat matcha latte was delicious and so was my amazing cheddar scone. The baristas and owner were incredibly nice and friendly. It set the tone for a great day in DT Raleigh.

Guy working there with long hair was a real jerk when I politely waited for him to finish what he…read morewas doing on his phone to ask him if they had a book I was looking for. Without looking it up (he stayed on his phone throughout this) he just smiled like it was really funny to smugly say "we usually have it but we just ran out." And that was that. He didn't offer a solution just smiled and soaked in the self-pleasure of his snide answer. There was a painful pause as he waited for my reaction, wanting to relish in it, presumably, but I just said "ok then..?" And shrugged. And clearly disappointed I didn't leave right there he sighed and said "we could order one. Want to do that?" But he didn't offer any info about how much it would be, when it would be in, nothing. I had to pry that info from him. So forget it.

Hooray for independent booksellers. So & So is a small bookstore. It's not a used bookstore and…read moretheir titles are selective and probably not those you'll find (at least easily) at a mainstream shop. I like that. Sharing a space with an architectural firm, what you see when you first walk in, is what you get. There's not aisles and aisles of books, but that's what makes it easy to spend some time looking. The children and young adult section is a decent size, surprisingly, so it will give the kids something to do while you spend time looking. Mostly current authors, and a fair mix of biographical, non-fiction and informational, So & So does its job -- offering something different when time and boredom with the common stuff can make book shopping a chore. None of that is an issue here.
