It is seriously dark in here, you are blind for the first few minutes. Anyone that came in less than 30 minutes before the show was standing room only, it was completely overpacked. But that led to the sense of occasion and intimacy, being in vibration distance of some of the great musicians of Chicago/world scene in jazz/experimental, a select crowd where people came for a specific reason and knew their stuff well (Im learning this scene). The jukebox has every song you could dream of hearing and the bathrooms are decently clean too. The prices are great, the beer choices are sparse, but there are great options. Hacker-Pschorr and Delirium Tremens to Miller Lite and Mike's Hard Lemonade the selection is quite diverse. The shelves are filled with every kind of liquor you can imagine and there are even pork rinds to help with that late night hunger pangs. As you can see The Liberty Lounge is nothing too fancy, it's just a straight up dive where you can drown your sorrows after a long rough day at work.

We tried three bars to various success (mostly failure, though) and then landed at a classy joint, the Matchbox. There we learned from our friendly barkeep to head to Underbar. Oh wow, this is dive city. I parked myself at the bar and concentrated on the whiskey selection which was fair. I also saw they had some cool gin as well. There was a lot of noise going on around me (friend getting hit on), wild shenanigans on stage and me trying to push it past my bed time. I started singing along to the songs which was probably only amusing to my friend. Hey, we're having a good time! I decided I liked this bar but the travel and whiskey was catching up to me.
