There are two shelter areas that are in good shape and restroom structures which is always nice over a port-o-let. The playground looks fun, but since I don't have kids, I will leave that to someone else. There are ballfields and large open spaces of grass. The trail that wanders in the woods has good traction, is wide and well maintained. It has some seriously steep inclines and hills but isn't overwhelming. It's not super long, but good for a walk with the dog or a family looking for some outdoors. There is a gorgeous creek bed that runs thru the area giving a nature photographer plenty to shoot. The disc golf course is nationally recognized and is well maintained as well. There are 24 holes to play. Many of the holes are long and challenging with ravines and trees and narrow fairways. This is a course for the skilled and novice alike. I would say the novice should stay on the front 9 but there are plenty of holes after 16 or so that are playable for the novice as well. Overall, this is a versatile and well maintained park that I encourage anyone to visit at least once.

I saw a few playground areas, a volleyball court, and several eating areas complete with grills. We decided to take the walking path which had some various parkour exercising stations (20 in total) along it to help stimulate your walk. I think we figured it was about 1.5 miles or so atound it because we took 2 laps to reach our 3 mile goal. The huge hills definitely add some challenge to that as well. That was what I found on this trip and when I come back and find more I will update this review. Definitely worth checking out.

(Tip: the annual pass is only $10) A friend and I went here in search of an easy, short hike and saw that there was a 1 mile fitness trail. We were kind of horribly incorrect about this being an easy breezy walk in the park though. If you go through and do (or in my case poorly attempt) all of the activities along the trail, it's exhausting! We're already planning a return trip until we conquer it, because it kind of conquered us this time. It started off deceptively easy, drawing us in with jumping jacks and leg stretches before launching into a SUPER inclined sit up area followed by a series of upper body workouts involving pull ups and twirling from metal rings. The series of stairs to run up is no joke either, since the spacing essentially means you are jumping while running. By the time we finished, we had both gotten a heck of a workout! We saw a ton of people walking dogs on the trail and the playground area was packed. There is also a frisbee golf course there, which a handful of people were out enjoying. But man, that fitness course!

There are a couple picnic shelters, a Frisbee Golf Course, a baseball field (that is home to the Highland Hills team,) playground, trails, Gaga ball pit and a dog park. Currently the bathroom facilities are closed. The park was clean. There were many trash cans along the paved route. My children love Gaga ball, and were delighted to see a Gaga ball pit here. Unfortunately, the morning rains ment over an inch of standing water in the pit. If you are coming here for Gaga make sure it has been dry for a couple of days, and that you bring your own ball. Towards the back of the park is a dog park. That area seemed fairly busy. It was hard to see from where we were how large of an area it truly is.

This is not meant to be offensive, but I feel it needs to be said . To many dog owners are afraid to speak up, as they don't want to sound rude, neither do I. I truly empathize that you may not be able to get a sitter to take your dog to the park. If you can't then PLEASE just don't bring small loud screaming toddlers, babies and strollers into a dog park area full of dogs!!!! I honestly find this extremely irresponsible on ALL parents that do this. This not only puts your kids in danger, but the dogs as well. There are too many things that could go wrong!!! Did you know that, there are a TON of dogs that get along just fine with other dogs, but are scared of small kids!! Do you know what a dog "could" do if they are scared and want a person or thing to stay away from them?? Some dogs may just run away, other dogs will growl, bark and snip at what they feel is a predator. You are putting way to much trust in other peoples dogs!!! You are literally putting your kids and these dogs at risk when you do this!!! When you walk into that dog park, any responsible dog owner, especially owners of large dogs, are going to immediately have to remove their dog. Have you ever paid attention to the people that leave when you come in with your kids? Or the ones that decide not to come in and turn around? When we have to leave, that cuts their dogs play and exercise time out and now they don't get it but yours will!!! If I had to guess, there are probably only 1 dog park to every 10, 0000 children's parks!!!!!! There is NO reason that you should be invading what small part of this world they get to have of their own!!!! Take your kids and dog to the regular Park k cuz they are only a FEW DOG" parks out there!! I understand that it's hard when you have small kids and a dog. Please just be more responsible and considerate of others. Especially, if you are a family with 2 adults and small kids coming into a dog park, like really ‍. There is no reason all of you need to be in there. I get your kids want to play with their dog, but they can do that at home. Or take them to a separate area, like they have at a couple locations in the area. Its just not fair to other peoples dogs. I work a lot, and I take my dogs daily to the park. I am usually only have a small amount of time to let my dogs run and get to play, It angers me so much when I have to cut that time in half because someone brings kids in the park and I don't want to chance anything with my dogs. Anything could happen!! Think about these possible scenarios: * Mom and dad bring in their 2 dogs, a baby in a stroller, they also have 2 very small and loud kids running around screaming and playing. Their 2 dogs are going to protect these kids cuz it's their nature. Someone' else's dog decided to come up and sniff the kid, or baby in the stroller. That dogs gets excited and jumps on one of the kids , which scares him and he starts to scream and cry. Their screaming and crying makes that dog think they are playing and jumps on them more. Next thing you know, that kids dog attacks the dog that jumped the toddler, thinking he was hurting him. That kid is smack in the middle of a vicious dog fight. Do you think he could get seriously hurt? Of course he could!! *Another example: There a ton of dogs that are "herd" dogs, like Australian Shepherd's. When they see small kids running around, their instinct tells them they need to get them in line and herd them. When a herding dog herds, they will nip the legs of whatever they are herding. I know because my granddaughter got bit by one doing exactly that. She was running around being loud and crazy. So that dog was doing the job it was breed to do. Was it this dogs fault ? The owners fault? Neither!!! , because that is their nature and because they are animals. As much as we want them to be human, they don't think like humans! Well sometimes they do, I don't believe their are any mean dogs in this world. I believe there are mean people who teach their dog to be mean, or that abuse their animals and they fear a human because of it and will protect themselves just like we would!! Again, I am not trying to offend anyone, it's my hope that you will read this and by doing so, it can help save a kid and a dog from one of the million possible things that could go wrong when bringing small kids into a dog park!! If they park is empty, by all means!! I IMPLORE you, please leave the DOG PARKS for the DOGS ONLY!!! I hope this opens some parents eyes! please keep the kids at home when taking your dog to a dog park, for everyone's sake!!

Winton Woods, like all of the Great Parks, does require a vehicle permit. If you're a Hamilton County resident, you can snag a day pass for $5. Since my husband and I drove up from NKY, our pass was $8. I have no problem paying a bit for a well-maintained park! If you think you'll visit more than twice a year, it's worth it to just buy the annual pass for $16. They do accept both cash and card at the main gate. My husband and I brought our dogs to hike Kingfisher Trail on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. While the harbor was pretty busy, and several of the covered picnic areas had been claimed, we were some of the only people on the trail. This is a pretty easy loop -- and while there is a small uphill portion, it's not steep at all. Dogs do have to remain leashed -- but there's plenty for them to sniff and explore right on the trail. As the weather continues to warm up, I'm sure we'll return to Winton Woods again soon!

My daughter loved horses and I fell into that "horse lover" trap myself, so we bought horses for her and my wife and I. Then we accidentally found Mrs. Johnson's' property and were given permission by Mrs. Johnson to rent her barn and the entire property and additional stalls in the barn at Johnson Hills. We tried sub-leasing some stalls to other horse lovers for a short time but soon decided against it. (Some folks weren't "fit" to have horses. We considered them pets, others seemed to consider them as "slaves" or " just animals to treat (or mistreat) in any way they wanted.) Covered shelters are free of trash. The parking lot is clean. The sidewalk leading to the covered structure with fire pit has cute animal tracks inbeded in it. The structure would be perfect for a party. (When people are allowed to gather again.) The surrounding areas are shaded as well. A port-o-potty is located near the parking lot. Discovering a butterfly garden was an exciting surprise. Many of the flowers were in bloom. Butterflies were infact attracted to the area. Several even landed on our legs. Some signage near the parking area directing to the trails would be much appreciated. (The park is in the process of being redesigned/upgraded so this may have been here previously, or be coming.) We thought a short paved trail might be it. We were about to leave when some fellow visitors yelled to us (they were practicing good social distancing,) if we could direct them to the nature trails. We informed them that this was our first visit, and that we had not found the trails on the side of the park we were on. They then said the trails must be on the other side. We followed them (at a safe distance,) to the other side of the park. (We did not think to walk through the field to get to the trails.) The easiest way to the trails seems to be through the field, that is past the parking lot and covered structure. Paved walkways are apparently coming to that side as well. There is a yellow, red and blue trail. The first trail we came across, just after the butterfly garden, was the blue trail. We decided to take it. Trails are easy to follow. The canopy is fairly dense. It offers much appreciated shade on a hot summer day. The rays of light cascading through the trees are rather beautiful. Trails are on the muddy side. There are various gradients along the route. There are also a lot of exposed roots. Young hikers may need help at times. During our hike we discovered several species of fungi, a few flowers, a creek, an Eagle Scout project, and even a geocache. There is quite a bit of stinging nettle along the trails. Thankfully, the plant is courteous enough to stay along the edges of the path. As long as you stay on the trail you should be fine. There is also Jewelweed growing amongst the stinging nettle. That will help with the stinging if you find yourself in need of relief. We will definitely come back to this park to experience the red and yellow trails.
