What in the heck, man!? I was driving from Pekin, IL to Bloomington. I knew I wouldn't make it to the shop until 10 mins before they closed. I work retail, I know it sucks when customers come in late, so I don't normally go places right before close. Well, I really needed some drumsticks, and I couldn't get there earlier. So, out of courtesy, I called to let them know I'd be there quite late, apologize for that, and just make sure they were ok if I just grabbed some sticks really fast. The girl that answered hates life, I guess. It was crazy. I'm apologetic and understanding of the situation, and in an extremely irritated tone she says, "As long as you make it before 6." Just reading that doesn't do it justice. Her tone was garbage, man. I was taken aback and asked her what she said, and she then said, "We close the doors at 6," again in a tone like I'm THE reason anything in her life has ever gone wrong. Dude. What?? Even if she'd said that they do need to close right at 6, all she had to do was be nice about it. That's it. I will NEVER shop there. Never have, and now I never will. Way to treat a potential customer. Whoever that girl was needs some serious customer service training. Christ. read more

Newer to the area. Went in there with a slightly old Bass missing the G among other things. Music heads in there. Super cool, and helped me out for a very reasonable price. Don't roam to to the Wonka World of Many other instruments available and....Anyways, yes recommend. read more

I went to this shop today with every intention to spend money. I was either going to buy an electronic drum set, an acoustic bass, or both. The store had one acoustic bass, which was decent, and several electronic drum kits to choose from. I walked back and fourth from the various rooms for probably an hour to see if anyone would offer assistance. You're probably wondering why I just didn't ask? As I entered the store, there were at least 6 people working and having conversations with other people browsing the store, and the employees who weren't occupied with customer service were greeting families and people who weren't me with a hearty greeting and "how can I help you?" I can't support a business that treats people unequally. You don't like how I looked, and maybe thought I was just a homeless dude looking to beat the cold, or some basement dweller looking to shred stairway to heaven and leave and not buy anything? Edited because I forgot to lower stars. Re-edited because the sales manager Benjamin reached out to me with a very thoughtful message and apologized. I do intend on going back soon, as the selection of wares was actually very nice. read more

I have been in the market for a digital keyboard for an local assisted living facility. After several phone conversations with sales rep Marc, I finally took a trip to the shoppe in Bloomington. Marc was extremely helpful in showing me the difference in the various makes and models. I was able to "test" drive each keyboard and make a decision from the sound and the options that were offered. I left knowing that I had made the perfect decision. I cannot wait until the keyboard is delivered to the facility tomorrow, and I can go and play, play, play! read more

This store is mostly stocked for guitar, drums/percussion, and some bass. They have a decent selection of music as well as guitar straps, drum sticks, etc. Seems to cater to a younger crowd than other music stores in town. They also have music lessons in the same mall. They'll give you the name(s) of their instructor(s) and you can call them and set up lessons. read more

I feel like I just stepped into an episode of the antique roadshow! I had a slew of old instruments that are collecting dust. Courtney and a secretary who's name I didn't catch immediately started researching and calling in the "experts" to look at my instruments. I had an older violin so Courtney tracked down the owner. He not only gave me the history of the violin and the maker but knew that it was made in Germany, what kind of wood....I wish I would have recorded the knowledge this guy shared! With a little bit of work ($50 bucks or so!!) he thinks I can get anywhere from $1500 to $2000 for it. I spent at least 45 minutes there and learned so much! My group gave the Music Shoppe a set of speakers and mixers to fix in early November. Their website clearly states that per their terms and conditions, "...we can quarantine your instrument, complete repairs, and deliver it back to your school the following week. We received our speakers nearly two months after we sent them in for repairs. This is by far longer than the music shoppe says it should take. I do not know why the music shoppe held on to our speakers for two months but they did. In the future my party will be bringing our speakers and any other music equipment we need repaired to a different location. read more

Us as parents made a mistake about payments on my son's sax so they did what there Right was and got it back so we went in and bought one from them paid it full out that same day we bought it they informed the music teacher to take it they were picking it up the following Friday so my son had it removed from him in front of his classmates just before his Christmas concert he was crushed at something he was looking forward in doing we had receipt for sax which we paid cash for so with them doing this my son no longer wants to do band or music just because the people at the music shop if I could give them negative 5 star I would who would tell a music teacher to take away a sax that was paid for from a child for no reason at all I hope u go out of business? read more

Sent speakers in to get fixed and they weren't done until 5-6 months later. Also, they were supposed to be covered by warranty but they screwed me out of that too. Horrible customer service because I called a couple times to check up and they kept telling me they hadn't even started yet. read more

Worst experience ever ~ Marianne is incredibly rude. She called my boss and gave personal information saying my card was denied. IT WAS NOT DENIED. When I called to address the issue Marianne once again ran my card and low and behold my card went through no issues. Very unprofessional and will NEVER use the music shoppe again. read more

Yes, this place seems to target a younger generation of musicians, but they also have competitive prices. They also have reliable instruments and will help if anything breaks. Some of the posts on here seem ridiculous. Not liking a music shop because they don't want you to beat the crap out of a drum set is absurd. This is especially true at a smaller shop. Judge a shop on their service and products. They offer quality instruments at decent prices. read more

Love this store! I've been going to the Music Shoppe since the early 90s when it was crammed into a tiny space in uptown normal. I'm so glad they've expanded into this larger space. They're really knowledgeable, can recommend instructors, repair instruments, and just seem to genuinely care about music and musicians. I wouldn't go anywhere else in the area! read more

We have been going to The Music Shoppe for years, but just in the last 8 months or so my two sons have started taking piano lessons with Travis Hoover. Both boys started from scratch, and I am simply amazed at the progress they have made in such a short time. Travis is a true professional, and is a great teacher as shown through the music my boys are playing! I would highly recommend Travis and the Music Shoppe for lessons in the Bloomington Normal area. Repairs took a long time to happen here, probably because of the sheer volume of students using this shop. They also didn't do much more than just a general cleaning and cork replacement even when there are a few obvious fixes that could be done after a quick check of the instrument. For the amount that cost, probably not worth it. read more

There were many people in the store, but it really was more chaotic than busy. The employees were running around trying to help, but there didn't seem to be any organization. Half of the store wasn't even being watched. I saw a couple leave because they couldn't get any help. One employee needed manager approval for something and there wasn't one available. I looked around while waiting for my turn and saw people in offices who I'm assuming had there work to do which was why they weren't helping customers in the store. I did see some closed offices as well. Talking with a teacher friend of mine later he said that these were probably the managers offices. He has done business with the store in the past and said the managers often leave early before the store gets busy which would explain my earlier comment. I got tired of looking around and waiting a while so I searched for other music stores in the area and found two others that rent instruments and I got one some where else. read more
