I really enjoy walking through the store. Only problem is, finding someone to answer a question is difficult. I love Von Maur! My go-to shopping center. From clothing selections, decor, staff service, and overall quality, I'm always satisfied. They carry a lot of clothing brands, from Free People to small chic brands. They cater to the whole family's needs, from baby clothes to juniors, and professional, and men's clothes. Von Maur also has family decor, makeup, and shoe sections. You can always find good deals at sales racks. Also, their staff is very friendly and helpful. I've always enjoyed my visits there. Looking for something special or just want deal on next piece to add to your closet.. I would visit this gem in the middle of Bloomington, IL. The customer service is very warm and welcoming with helpful hand for anything your looking for throughout the store. I always visit the "shoe closet." What is the shoe closet you ask? It's where mark downs happen on all the shoes that were once on the sales floor, as I understand Von Maur buys items in bulk. The regular price shoe stays on sales floor for limited time then goes to shoe closet. Von Maur prides themselves on having the "newest" items and does not leave things in sales floor long. I always always hit the shoe closet for great deal. I have found deals on best brands at crazy low prices. Tip! Wait for 2 or 3rd mark down for best price. read more

Wait -- I thought I was in mid America suburban wasteland! (no offense, good people of Bloomington Normal) This is a top notch department store! I left my shoes at home while in town to attend a wedding and walked in not knowing what to expect. A shoe department full of many many wonderful choices! I had to hold myself back, knowing my suitcase space was limited. Ended up with a perfect pair for me and a fabulous new pair for my daughter. I never buy my kids shoes on a whim, esp not $50 shoes but really I just couldn't resist. Really nice salespeople too. read more

I typically gravitate toward the clearance shoe room because I am a sucker for a good deal. Take heed of the other negative reviews as Von Maur is simply not the store I once knew. I started shopping at Von Maur in the late '80s. Over the years I have probably spent tens of thousands of dollars in the store. I'm a middle aged college professor so I need a nice wardrobe. I've now had 3 extremely bad experiences. In fact, I foresee someone eventually bringing legal action against the store for some of their clerk's behavior towards customers. They openly discriminate against certain demographics. This past week I needed makeup for a job interview. I'm guessing my short hair was just too much for the cosmetic clerk because she wrinkled up her nose at me, walked away, and started chit chatting with another customer who obviously had no intention of making a purchase. I hung around for about 10 minutes until it became embarrassingly and painfully obvious there was no way anyone was going to sell me anything. I'm a pretty 'chill' lady but I thought to myself: I'm a cis-gendered, heterosexual, white female who happens to like pixie-styled hair. If I get treated in such a shameful way imagine how customers who don't fit the stereotype of their specific demographic get treated? Imagine how black and/or brown people get treated? In today's day and age of online shopping there are far too many options to do business with a bigoted company. Unfortunately, their midwestern values are trapped in the 1940s... or missing altogether. read more

Von Maur's employees that have been there for many years understand and continue to provide excellent customer service. The newer/younger employees don't comprehend nor care about providing excellent customer service. I wonder if there's been a change in management !!! Quality of merchandise has gone down in the past 15 years I've shopped here. Sales are good for staple items tho. Customer service is nose-diving too. Employees openly discuss the working conditions in disparaging terms (how they have to cover more than one dept, hours, etc). When I asked if a certain size was available/could it be found at another store, clerk nonchalantly said, "no" and didnt bother to look online to see if it was available. Sometimes a cosmetics dept clerk will stare right at you at a counter and not walk over to help. Most are helpful/some are not. I shop at Nordstrom in Oakbrook where the selection is first rate and customer care is an artform. read more

I grew up shopping at Von Maur. My momma would always take us here for school clothes. Everything washes up awesome and you get what you pay for which is quality. They are super friendly and help you out with anything. You can get jean alterations there. Great selection of shoes and if they do not have your size they will order them in or ship them to your house for free. Three dollar signs is right. This place has the same stuff for a 100 dollars more! Do not go here! Waste of money. They have wedding dresses for children( who would need this) and for 300 dollars! I had a horrible experience in the shoe department. My husband and I along with my 3 month old son waited over 20 minutes to be helped. The sales associates were chatting with another customer for this time and did not even acknowledge me while I waited. I was fully prepared to buy a pair of boots for a trip I was leaving on the next day but ended up walking out due to the fact they never helped me or told me they would be right with me. This was truly horrible customer service and I will go back to making my purchases online from Nordstrom, it least I'm guaranteed to get what I am wanting without being rudely ignored. read more

They give good service, work at bringing in new lines of clothing and continue to change things up enough to keep the store interesting. The nicest department store we have here in Blo/No, with nice mid to high end designer brands. A lot of really expensive stuff sold here but also has a more affordable selection. Some of the employees aren't friendly or helpful so I prefer to keep to myself when I shop here. Sometimes employees will ignore you. Has nice sales going on usually too. Selection of clothes, shoes, and accessories are about the best that you will find here in Bloomington IL. Sale prices are good, regular prices may be slightly high but for the most part you will see why with the quality and wearability. If I could only go in and replace my entire wardrobe :). The store has nicer items that I have had difficulty finding elsewhere. My service experience each of the two times was that the sales associates were very polite. On this trip, I was carrying my sleeping daughter. The associate came up to me and asked me if I needed any help. I asked for belts and she led the way over to the belts asking me what kind of styles I was looking for, color and size. She then went around the rack and pulled individual belts off the rack to ask me what I liked. This time I bought an Allen Edmonds belt for 2 dollars less than the lowest Amazon price. The belt was still $105.90, but it was hand made in the USA with real leather and quality stitching. Some things are worth buying quality as they will last longer saving you from buying it over and over again. Regarding the selection, it was decent but not impressive. Although, this is compared to other places that sell a lot of low quality options, and considering this, the selection was fairly good. read more

One of the best places in B-N to get nicer clothes or gifts. They are always super helpful, and offer a lot of nice free/inexpensive services including shipping, gift wrapping, and alterations. I came down to visit my brother who lives here, and after a wonderful lunch, he knows I love to shop, so he suggested Von Maur since there isn't one in Rockford IL. To my dismay, when I asked a young lady in the shoe department if they had a Plus size department she wasn't sure and then finally said no!! I was shocked!!! So off I went to just look at the Miss's Dept, when asked by a lovely women , do I need any help, again asked if there was a Plus siize Dept and she said YES! I was confused! One person said NO and another says YES!! Of course I proceeded to Plus size department and was happy with the selection and bought a top and love it!! I would think that your training of staff needs to be a little bit better!! Plus size women do love to shop!! I would think twice about shopping here. read more

beware when returning an item. i am very diesppointed in van maur at college hills. a week ago i returned an item that i had purchased the same day. even though i have a receipt for the return the return never went through on my debit card, they say it takes awhile, i am still waiting. i am told that if you use your van maur card, you get the credit right away, whereas i used a debit card. this is not fair because a debit card is as good as cash. read more
