why do people complain about the location, and make this place look bad? Then there are people who leaves a review that the people in that store are not nice...I disagree with those people. Then there's people on here complaining about having to lock up their purses, it is that way because that way nobody can put merchandise in their purses and walk out the door. The little stalls are normally filled with great varieties to suit people with all sorts of interests. The older ladies who run the establishment are very kind and sweet and are as helpful as they can be! (Although, it can feel a bit like they are watching over your shoulder when they come and ask if they can take any goods from you to put up front. I promise we are not stealing - just looking around! Went to Bloomington for the flea market in stumbled over the new Bronze giraffe. The store is clean and inviting yet still there to do some digging for some antiques. Found some hard to find items and had a good time looking around. Staff is extremely friendly. read more

The store is located in a dead shopping center. A friend who grew up in Bloomington said that area was busy once upon a time. The parking lot is not the greatest but they have little control over that. I'm not really sure to go about rating this place. The vendors control the prices and products. Some of the pricing is outrageous. It's no wonder some of the same stuff sits in there year after year. At times, I feel like shows like Antiques Roadshow and American Pickers that have s bunch of hidden gems. When I first moved here, I had to limit my visits here because they did not accept checks from my bank. I asked if that extended to the debit card. They made a call and found out it did. Now I have a payment they accept, it's no problem at all. BUT, these people are living in the dark ages. The lady swiped my card. It wouldn't go through. She swiped it again. It wouldn't go through. The other lady walks into the register area on the cordless phone and this explains it. We have to wait for her to get off the phone before the payment will process. This took me back to the days as a teen when you had to wait for your mom to get off the phone to use the internet. Once in a while you find something amazing and that's why I bother going. read more

I not only am not a thief, I have never broken something and not paid for it. Actually, I've never broken anything in an antique store because I know how to carry a purse. But if I did, I'd pay for it. So, unfortunately, I had to walk out as quickly as I walked in to this one. I was shocked to see that Bronze Giraffe only has 2 stars on Yelp. Of the times I have been to this store, it has been great! Its a large store, so go when you have plenty of time because there is TONS to see. The staff has always been nothing but friendly when shopping and the pricing here is great! I live in Chicago and will easily pay 2 to 3 times as much for the same items I find at the Bronze Giraffe. Highly recommend stopping by! As far as everyone being bent out of shape about having to turn over big bags or purses, get over it! You clearly don't leave your little towns to ever thrift or antique shop, or shop in general. This isn't an out of the ordinary requirement. Experience the world outside of Bloomington-Normal and maybe you won't be offended by these little things. read more

A pretty large establishment, with some interesting finds, but maybe not worth the drive off the interstate. I noticed the lockers, but didn't know what they were for. Didn't really think much of it. Had my (pregnant) wife had her purse with her, I'm sure they would've asked us to put it in a locker, at which point we would have left. If you treat all your customers like thieves, I don't really want to shop there. Can't say they were the friendliest either. They weren't horrible or anything, but I asked the woman a simple question about whether or not they had been in the same location always, or had moved--she kind of rolled her eyes, and looked at me like some alien creature. ....Okay. As I said, a decent selection, but not worth going out of your way for, and certainly not the friendliest staff. read more

The Bronze Giraffe has several things up against it. 1) It is located in a crumbling, dead, former outlet mall and is one of only 4 or 5 businesses in a place designed to hold over 50. 2) There are several large signs before even entering the store stating their policy about "large purses or bags." 3) Before even saying "Hello" or "Welcome" the lady at the front desk loudly says "You need to lock up your bag." Further explanation is given as "the booths are really small and you don't want to pay for things you knock over with your purse." Because of this the one other customer who walked in at the same time I did promptly turned around and left. I felt sheepish staying but I was trying to find something in particular. 4) I overheard the two ladies talking negatively about customers who had left. There are, however, some good things going for it. 1) The Bronze Giraffe is very large and has a very large variety of stuff. 2) Most of the prices are reasonable. 3) If you can get the attention of the front desk ladies, they are more than willing to help unlock cases for you and find what you are looking for. read more

I have to agree with the other reviewer that you feel very untrusted at this store. Signs posted all over about how they can refuse service and you have to put your bag in a locker. No thanks. It's unfortunate too because the actual booths have some good stuff and priced reasonably. read more

I had driven past the antique mall once before and didnt have time to stop so the next time I found myself out this way I made sure to go by... and I had just gotten paid so good timing... I had barely stuck my foot in the door when a lady rudely said ma'am we're closing... she seemed very upset that I had even opened the door. I thought closing? It's not on any hour. When I got back in my car to leave I noticed it was ten till five. She could have said they were closing in ten minutes and let me decide if I wanted to look around instead of acting like I was not welcome to enter.... I don't know how many customers they get in a day, but one more surely couldn't hurt? Definitly need customer service training.. I went there with every intention of buying something... now I may not bother coming back... There are many other options on places to shop... read more

I am very sad to post this review on yelp but it has bothered me for some time. I am an avid antiquer and I was so excited to learn about this shop because many of the antique stores in the area have closed, but going into this shop was one of the most degrading things I have ever experienced in Normal. When I entered the store the woman basically yelled at me to put my purse in a locker....I was a little offended since it was a very small hand purse, but I complied. But what really got me mad was when a woman who came in after me with a huge purse and bag walked in and was not asked to put her bag in a locker. I continued to shop in the store but was very angry that the woman was not made to put her bags in the locker when they were bigger than mine. When I got to the counter I was almost in tears, I told my husband who was with me to pay for our items and that I would meet him in the car and left. He proceeded to give the lady at the counter a piece of his mind. The lady defended herself saying that she knew the woman that came in and that she did not have to leave her bag in a locker. We were going to buy over a hundred dollars worth of merchandise but my husband just left it and told her that she had lost our business. read more

I have been antiquing a lot this last week. Was in Springfield, OH and Columbus, OH to find how awesome they treat their customers. Coming to the Bronze Giraffe has made me feel like they don't trust you the moment you walk through the door with their policy to put your bag in a locker. Those places in Ohio let you bring in something to snack on and to drink. They have people willing to take your stuff up to the front for you. One place even had carts for you to put your things in. I found something that was marked down and the booth even had a 20% off things in the booth. But, the ladies at the counter would not honor that discount. They said that the item I wanted was from another booth. But the that 20% sign had a #64 on it which signified the booth number. But, they said that booth was there right behind them. So, I left. DO NOT GO HERE. Don't leave your bag in their lockers... do you want to bring home roaches? read more

After reading the other comments about being yelled at, I was hesitant to try this place, but so curious because someone said they had great stuff. So I left my purse in the car! When we walked in we were greeted by both employees behind the counter, neither of which was the owner. The store is huge! There are tons of booths, but they're arranged sort of confusing and you have to back track sometimes or you may miss a booth. Lots of interesting things here. I got a great deal on two photo frames and an old wooden chair painted white that was only $12 and I usually see them selling for $30-40. There were lots of neat antiques that really reminded me of my childhood in the 70's. I will for sure come here again when I'm in town! I actually saw a woman walk in with a purse as I was checking out, and nobody asked her to lock it up. I also didn't notice any signs about that. But they do have lockers there. read more

There are a lot of antique stores that require purses be put in lockers. I felt a little offended the first time I came across a store that did it but I've gone into quite a few antique shops since then that are requiring this also. You don't have to lock your purse up anymore--the lockers are still there, however. You can use them or not. There is a huge variety at this mall and I always find something (I'm often looking for something specific, but not always). I have always found the staff very helpful and courteous. read more
