This is my second time here and it was just as delicious as the first. The waitstaff is very friendly and takes the time to answer any questions you may have about the menu. My son got the pesto grilled cheese and a funky monkey smoothie and loved both. He said it was genius to put pesto on the sandwich. Coming from an 8 year old foodie, that means a lot. My husband tried the pesto chicken flatbread and it looked and tasted amazing. Maybe my family just really likes pesto. I got the avocado toast with a side of fruit, since we also ordered the hummus appetizer...and knew I'd be full. It was good, but a little salted butter would've elevated the flavor a bit. This was a cute little restaurant, but I wasn't super impressed everything. I got a veggie wrap, but it was heavy on the quinoa and hummus, light on the veggies. I also got a green juice, which was honestly the most disappointing thing I got, especially for the price. I regularly get fresh juices (it was the reason I stopped in!) and never have I received a juice with so much ice! And the juice tasted like nothing but celery. My fam and I have to go to Chicago to get anything like this, and here we are, in little ol' Elkhart with an organic cafe. My wife and I had a date night and we spent it at Moringa Tree. Best decision we could have made. The folks running this gem, Jenny and Andy, are amazing. The cafe itself is located in an old house, redone to be quite cozy and well decorated. We felt at home in this place. You order at the counter and we had a pizza with sauteed mushrooms and kale, raw cheddar cheese, and instead of tomato sauce, it was more like salsa. All that on a homemade sourdough crust (the dough was fermented in house). It was absolutely delicious. No, it wasn't Papa John's shiny greasy drunk food, but you actually know what the hell you are eating. Also had a salad with housemade italian dressing. Get it. Finally, as a super surprise from Jenny, we had a piece of mind blowing chocolate cake with a berry reduction sauce. Pray that you get to be blessed with this treat. I used to love this place. I love their idea of fresh ingredients. It's right up my ally and I am all for supporting local. However, this business is making others feel uncomfortable by handling the food without masks. This is going almost a full year of this pandemic and to have the owner not realize that this is putting their customers at risk has me floored and upset. Honestly there's no need to give this place anything less than 5 stars. I came for a healthier lunch option and that's exactly what I got. First time here and not very friendly. The lady (Sarah) that waited on us first was very nice our Waitress is a different story. Our Waitress is to abrupt for me. I'm new to being a vegan and still learning about everything so please be patient. We wanted to keep the menu and look at it but the waitress grabbed it out of my friends hand. I kept mine. How about asking first. I got the Moringa Happy Hummus $7.00 which had a good taste but I thought the crunchy seed thing had to much salt. My friends on the other hand liked the salted seed thing. I would get this again. I had the Famous Taco salad with no cheese and no meat and extra tomatoes. I'm not sure on the price since they totally messed it up. I ended up paying $5.00 dollars. It had a good taste but I wish it would of been bigger for the price. I asked for no cheese but there was cheese in my salad and I said I was vegan but I found out there was chicken in it as well. The waitress was in to much of a rush. Was she not aware that Vegans do not eat chicken or dairy even though I said I didn't want them. They should of compted my salad which would of been a good gestur since they totally screwed it up. I ended up eating the salad as I hate to waste food. Our Waitress asked everyone how there meal was but never asked us plus we never saw her again after she dropped the food off. She was very friendly to everyone who must be regulars. The server was polite, but none of the staff were wearing masks, even when approaching customers. I ordered nachos with guacamole and the berry smoothie. The smoothie was very good, the large served in a mason jar. The nachos were good, but not exceptional, I'd have preferred a smaller serving with more of the toppings such as tomatoes and green onions. Where to begin. I was very excited to see a healthy, locally owned cafe in Elkhart. Especially since I moved here by marriage from a place that had organic, healthier foods. For starters- the vibe of the whole place was off putting. There were some people who the workers must've known and the worker was very kind to them but not welcoming to us at all. I don't mind driving the extra few miles to stop at the moringa tree since most of the area is fast food. The menu is just big enough and offers options for various diets. I love their invigorating tea and anti inflammatory soup. The soup is packed with flavor and yummy veggies. The quesadilla with black beans and guacamole is my all time favorite. Being a converted house and now a restaurant makes it a quirky place to begin with as you take in its eclectic table arrangement and vibrant color scheme. They have done a great job in making it look and feel fun without being gaudy. We sat by the window so my wife could soak up the sun on this Fall day.
