Hummus and flatbread and some sort of pastry
Mike D.

What an unexpected delight. For $35 we had a cappuccino, hummus and flatbread and a pastry. Plus live music and the prettiest napkins I've seen. 5/5 price, large menu, free water right away, live music. Hummus and flatbread bread in a beautiful set of cups were the standout food 4/5 cappuccino was solid 3/5 pastry, bland sort of a fancy pretzel pretending to be a cinnamon flaky pastry. Definitely underwhelming but I was hungry and for $8 it was a good value 2/5 none 1/5 none Overall gets a 5/5, as the live music really put it over the top. Incredibly good for museum food, nice beer&wine list as well. Gets a "hidden gem" rating from me which is rare. Not accessible to the public but if you want an affordable and worth it museum plus great bathrooms downstairs and a good place to eat in midtown, this should be added to your list.

The food was delicious and the portions were huge! We had the carrot ginger soup, which was fantastic. The burger had three patties on it, so bigger than we expected. The onion rings and sauce were yum. The opened-faced sandwich with country ham, gruyere, and an egg on what tasted like French toast was a great mix of sweet and salty. Too much food for two adult women for sure. The service was spotty at best. The servers just plopped the food down and left. We had to take our check up to the register ourselves to check out. If you have time, this place is enjoyable, but if not, you will be disappointed.

Beautiful light filled space providing a fine repast after Jane Austen or whatever you've seen at the Morgan. I had a coconut rice pilaf which had asparagus and peas and bits of dried coconut. Very tasty. It came with a jammy egg but the egg was cold. Regardless, the whole dish was pretty good. If you're feeling indulgent you can get a glass of wine and pity all the iced tea drinkers. Server was attentive. A nice experience.

BLT with chips

Located inside the Morgan library museum, this cafe is a great stop before, during, or after your trip to the museum. The cafe isn't really separated from the rest of the museum and sits in a big, bright space right behind the ticketing area. Service can be a bit spotty as the space is so big, but they are very kind. The menu here has a variety of items, from pastries and salads to sandwiches and heavier meals. I got the BLT when I came and it was delicious. It was stuffed to the brim with bacon, tomatoes, and lettuce. Absolutely delicious. It also came with chips and pickles on the side! Wish they had more pastries and smaller bites, but it was delicious nonetheless.

This cafe is located in the Morgan library museum after the ticketing booth. It's in the hallway that goes to the museum so sitting here you keep seeing the museum traffic. The food is tasty and there are lots of options but it is pricey. The humus and tomato soup we ordered were both great. Hummus was freshly made and well presented. So was the coffee. The one other concern was that menu said "sweet potato hummus" but it was just regular hummus. Service was a bit slow but courteous. The place is clean, modem and quite standard in terms of decor.

"Soup of the day," herbed fries, and blackberry lemonade.

This is a lovely place to have lunch, even if you don't plan to visit the museum and library. It is located under a glass atrium, and offers table service. They offer a selection of sandwiches, salads, and small plates, but the "high tea for two" seemed to be a popular item. As I was not with a group, I opted for their "soup of the day": barley chicken with a side of herbed fries. The fries were absolutely delicious, and surprisingly not offered with the sandwiches. There is also a wine list, and a selection of teas, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages. I tried the blackberry lemonade. I needed a bit more "lemon flavor" but was still refreshing. All of the servers and staff members I encountered were wonderful, and I loved the colorful napkins included in the table setting.

Afternoon tea for two

I had afternoon tea here with friend recently and had an amazing experience. It was freezing that day so we really appreciated being able to sit and chat unbothered for hours while we struggled to finish all the food that came with our tea set. They don't accept reservations but we had no trouble getting a table immediately. The cafe is in an atrium just past the entrance of the library. The skylight and open layout make you feel invigorated and relaxed while dining. For $35 per person, we had the best tea set we've ever had. The set came with a cluster of grapes, an assortment of sandwiches, 4 scones, 3 macarons, deviled eggs, and a generous slice of chocolate tuxedo cake. Each person also gets their own pot of tea. My friend chose the rose flavored Paris tea and I had the Japanese sencha. They used tea bags from Harney and Sons. Though the tea was great, what really won me over was the food. Everything was so delicious! The sandwiches were tasty, the cake and grapes were fresh, and the scones were simply out of this world. I can't rave enough about them. Their soft, crumbly texture paired with the clotted cream and apricot jam were pure perfection. I savored every bite and would come back for the scones alot. The set looked deceivingly light but my friends and I left feeling quite stuffed. What a lovely afternoon catching up at the Morgan Cafe.

Morgan "Cafe" restaurant

Such a great place to have lunch even if you are not visiting the library. The menu is amazingly creative and the food lives up to the expectations. The service is very high-toned, not fast casual, but more sophisticated and elegant. The atrium lighting makes the whole place a bit magical. They call it a cafe but it's much more like a very nice restaurant. I highly recommend it!

Tea for 2

Nice ambiance in the Morgan Library, where we went for tea for 2. Savory and sweets on tier plates, along with a selection of Harney and Sons tea bags.

Had afternoon tea for two here yesterday (9/6/24) and wanted to get my thoughts down while they are fresh. The location is a large atrium that is not very noisy and great for conversation without a booming echo. Staff was attentive and it never got too crowded during my time here on a late Friday afternoon. Food presentation was good (see photos) with an assortment of sweet and savory treats. Side note, if you run out of clotted cream (which was very good), a refill is $2! I found the scones a bit dense but others may like that. I didn't think I would get full but I did and had a box for takeaway for the leftovers. Decent selections of teas (in bags and not loose) and they will refill the pot with hot water as many times as requested. Overall I enjoyed the experience and the price for tea for two ($54 as of Sept, 2024) was very reasonable. If you come on a Friday afternoon, try to stay until 5PM when Museum admission is free so that you can walk off all the food afterwards!

After Hours rose wine tasting

What a great little secret this place is. I work in Murray Hill, and I walk by the Morgan Library & Museum all the time. A few months ago, I decided to stop in. I was surprised to find that cafe has a really fun menu with prices that are pretty reasonable for NYC. The cafe is in an atrium space. I drank my wine, had a delicious Fuji apple pancake stack, while my friend had a yummy smashburger with onion rings. We liked it so much we came back for an evening event, After Hours, the day before Valentine's Day. We had a ball wearing red, visiting galleries, and not breaking the bank doing that. The staff is also very nice and welcoming. We had the rose wine tasting on our evening visit. What fun! We'll be back.

Upon arrival we noticed the difference in crowds. Not as busy and packed sidewalks. Also it was a lot cleaner than Chinatown. Since we just ate at C-Town, it was time to find a good dessert place in K-Town. So we walked and we walked until I saw a banner sign showing shaved ice desserts. Then I noticed the name of the business is Grace Street. How fitting, because that is my wife's name. So we went in and what caught my eye was a mango shaved ice with mangoes, mochi, strawberries, and condensed milk, however I was over ruled by my wife and we went with the black sesame and mochi and condensed milk. It also had red bean, but that had to be on the side, since that gives me gout. Such nice staff taking orders and we went into the dining area to find a seat. What a large spacious area with many tables. Our order came out and it looked so good. The black sesame shaved ice or snow as it's also referred to as, was perfectly sweetened by the condensed milk and the chewy mochi. Definitely cleaned my pallet from our Chinese lunch and it helped cool me down from the New York heat. We got water, but there was no ice offered, so I asked one of the workers and he was kind enough to get me some. We are through that dessert like, if we didn't finish it fast, it was going to melt. We did not give it a chance to melt one bit. The staff here are efficient, as they saw we were done, they asked to clear our dessert bowl away. It was a nice experience even if it was just dessert. They definitely had more dessert options to offer, but i

We worked with Eric via email and he was great managing and making sure everything was settled ahead of the event. On the day of our lunch, we arrived around 20 minutes early and the table was already set up. We had two servers throughout the meal and they were lovely. They made sure everything was set up and we had everything we needed. For a large group reservation, they have a $60 minimum and you order everything ahead of time. (The afternoon tea set is mandatory for everyone to get). We had the afternoon tea set, caprese tarts and strawberry parfait for all attendees. The food was filling and tasty. Tea is always so good as well (I always get my Rose Lovers Milk Tea!) All in all, a great option for a group reservation in the city!

The size of both were the perfect amount since we just wanted something small to end the night. The ube crepe cake was really light and creamy. The ube flavor was pretty subtle, and I mostly tasted the cream. It's a perfect light dessert, but I would've liked the ube flavor to be stronger. The chocolate lava cake was super rich and decadent but also really delicious. I feel like it kinda battled with the ube crepe cake since they're total opposites. The staff were friendly. The interior was really cute and had a relaxing type of atmosphere that made it great for a nice place to sit, chat, and have dessert.

When I went at 7pm on a Thursday, they ran out of some of the ssal cake flavors, but luckily they still had the mugwort flavor which was the one I was aiming for. The plain cream one looks very angelic and attractive with the pale whiteness but for $1.50 more, I'd rather get a flavored version. Also I recall others saying that the plain one is a bit tasteless. The ssal cake ended up being super airy and light, even softer than a chiffon cake imo. It doesn't have oiliness, roughness, or acidity. Likewise, the cream matches the gentleness of the cake. The structure is interesting too, because the top layer of cream is thick, then a thin layer of cake, then a thin layer of cream, and a thick layer of ssal cake. When I eat it, I often get hit with the thick layer of cream on top while wishing there's more cake. Don't get me wrong, I like all components of it. I've had mugwort before but not super familiar with it. For those who've never had it before, mugwort tastes herbally and earthy kind of like the Chinese herb prunella vulgaris (?). The flavor here is strong but not in your face aggressive. I like how they dust the whole top with more mugwort powder which adds to the flavor and provides another layer of texture that's not overly dry (slightly messy tho!) I like how the mugwort is a greyish shade of green which honestly looks so chic and unique compared to other bright and colorful desserts nowadays. You can argue that the color looks dull, but I like it. My only complaints for the ssal cake are: 1) wish it came in a smaller size which would be easier to stomach (literally) and financially, 2) wish the cakes were in perfect squares. They're more rectangular without straight edges and 90 degree corners.
