Bon apetit

You guys, this place is amazing. Best resort, best food and moongate does not disappoint. Always packed so you'll need a reservation but great ambiance. Every meal we had here was so flavorful and delicious. Wilberth or server was amazing and the hostess Paulina was an absolute gem! She was so helpful and even remembered our names! We miss Hyatt Ziva already! The salmon dish was so yummy and the Teppan was even better. See you next year!

Came out here with my buddies to have a nicer sit down dinner. Food - Most of us order the house dish but my friend ordered Wagyu and Lobster. The Wagyu surprisingly was one of the top 5 best I've ever had and the lobster was good. The house stuff wasn't bad either. Service - Service was pretty good ad quick, staff if super nice and helpful. Venue - Very clean, modern, and large with a large tepan section. Price - Well the house stuff is included with resort fees, but wagyu and lobster was like $100 extra that's worth it. Overall it was great and enjoyed it.

This review is for table service only, not hibachi. This place is a hit or miss, but mostly miss. I dined here twice on my 7-night stay. The first experience here was to try everything and the second time was just to re-order the things we enjoyed. The dishes worth coming back for: -Salmon (Sake) nigiri or sashimi - these were pretty good! -NIKKEI TIRADITO - Sea bass, lime, garlic, ginger, aji, coriander - the fish isn't the best (I think it's thawed?), but still good and edible. -Miso shiru - Negi, miso, wakame, tofu - pretty good! -Strawberry-Coconut tapioca - Tapioca with coconut and sugar-free strawberry compote - they delivered this to our table accidently and it was so pretty we ate it anyway. Pretty good! The dishes worth skipping: -All. The. Rolls. Seriously!!! The rolls are not made well and the rice was gummy. -TUNA TARTAR - Bluefin tuna, soy sauce, gohan, avocado, sriracha mayonnaise - good potential but the rice killed the dish. - SPRING ROLL - Carrots, onion, cabbage, zucchini, sweet chili sauce - the first night I had this, it was good but the second night was not; I think the grease was old on the second night and the spring roll was a bit burnt. Take a gamble. - CHICKEN LOLLIPOPS - Fried chicken wings, honey, sriracha, sesame - if you're looking for fried chicken wings like the description indicates, these are not it! Our wings had a baked/undercooked soft texture. - GRILLED TAYPA - Shrimp, beef or chicken with soybean sprouts, carrots, zucchini, red & yellow bell peppers, broccoli, mushrooms, bok choi, coriander, teriyaki and soy sauce - This is frighteningly sweet. Skip!!! - YAKIUDON NIKKEI - Beef, chicken, shrimp, udon pasta, carrots, zucchini, onion, cabbage, negi, coriander, dashi, lime, oyster sauce - This was one of the better entree options but be warned this is a heavy serving of noodles. Overall, come back for the good stuff, skip the rest!

honestly the show here is meh... where is the onion train volcano thing? but it was still fun to interact with the chef and they work so hard! i see why this place is rated so highly... the sushi isn't great but the hibachi is nice and healthy and not ginormous portions where you eat yourself silly. i definitely would come here again. service is great as well!

While staying at the all inclusive Hyatt Ziva I stopped by The Moongate for dinner multiple times. One has to select weather to go with the teppanyaki style menu or choose from their made to order Asian menu. The Asian menu consists of Japanese, Thai, and Chinese dishes. Teppanyaki - The chefs put on an amazing show as they prepare dishes for the customers in front of them, "oohing" and "aahing" them with their food preparations skills. It's very similar to what the restaurant Benihana does in the United States. The menu consists of miso soup, fried rice, veggies, chicken, beef, and/or shrimp. All of the meat options were perfectly prepared and tasted great. I especially enjoyed the beef as it was juicy. This was really a memorable experience. Regular menu - My favorite dish from this menu was the Nai goreng which consisted of a rice dish with yellow curry, tender pieces of chicken, coriander, vegetables and a soft boiled egg. It tasted great and all the ingredients went well together. The crispy veggie rolls were another fantastic option here. The disappointments for me here included the sushi, soups (tom yum and the coconut soup), as well as the dessert options. I would recommend passing on these items. Service was friendly and on point here! Overall I had a great time here and really enjoyed most of the dishes that I tried.

This place has all the potential, but they let me down in more ways than one. If you want teppanyaki (hibachi-style) dinner, then you need to get a reservation, so be sure to ask your butler for availability. We were able to book a reservation a day in advance for 2 at 7pm on a weekday. There is also an a la carte menu if you don't want hibachi or can't get a reservation. Dress code is smart casual. Hibachi is a set menu, so here's what we got: Appetizers: - 3 sushi rolls: Spicy tuna roll (Avocado, tuna, negi, spicy mayonnaise), Spicy salmon roll (Fresh salmon, avocado, breaded shrimp, chipotle emulsion), Furai roll (Smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado - fried exterior) - Fried beef wonton: I'm generally not a fan of fried foods, so this one was not a favorite of mine. - Miso soup: Good and not too salty, but barely any tofu. We had actually asked our waiter to skip the sushi and beef wonton appetizers, but he forgot and brought them out anyway. Teppanyaki: - Fried rice: with egg, soy sauce, mixed veggies - Unfortunately, our grill master put too much soy sauce, essentially drowning the rice in it. So I barely touched my fried rice. - Protein: We both asked for beef and shrimp with the mixed veggies. These were done well, but again lots of soy sauce. Also, portion size was huge! We probably could have split one portion between the two of us. Dessert: - Matcha cake: I was a little excited about the matcha, although my hopes weren't too high given the aforementioned meal. Sure enough, the cake came out with overwhelming passionfruit/citrusy-flavors. Barely any taste of matcha. I had one bite of it, and that was the end of it. Great performance by our teppanyaki grill master. He was very welcoming, put on an outstanding show. But the food wasn't worth it.

This restaurant is an EXPERIENCE! It is located within the Hyatt Ziva Cancun resort. I advise you to get a reservation ASAP for the grill for some awesome entertainment and cooking skills. I was able to email them and get a reservation before even arriving there. If you aren't at the grill, there is still entertainment. They have female dancers and a random dragon that dance too! They make it very fun and silly. My boyfriend and I had a reservation at the grill and it came with a set menu, but gives you a choices of appetizers, sushi, and meat for the entree. I started off with the spring roll that has chili sauce on top and the spicy salmon roll. Both of us were provided with miso soup and fried rice. Literally that fried rice was the best I've ever tasted. I ordered shrimp and my boyfriend ordered steak for our meat entree. We also ordered 2 glasses of Chardonnay each and a hot sake (which unfortunately costs extra). Everything tasted so great. Honestly, best Asian cuisine I've ever had, better than Benihana's! You do not want to miss this dining experience when staying at Hyatt Ziva Cancun.

Teppanyaki! Out of all of a dozen spots in Hyatt Ziva Cancun, this one is the one with the wait and the lines. Naturally, I had to try it. They do have many other spots along with 24 hours dining AND room service plus the buffets, French food, Italian food and all. And if you don't want teppanyaki, you can walk in for this too. Almost no wait for the restaurant which has a pretty good looking/ massive menu. But I wanted to try the teppanyaki. It's been a while! And well I was intrigued! I was in the pool right across/outside this spot at sunset when they first open. I watched a lot of people go in. Didn't see a line form till about half hour after. Debated about putting my name down while I go back to the room to get ready but figured, I wasn't that hungry! Turns out I was! But it's ok. An hour wait with a buzzer turned out to be about 45 minutes wait. I waited upstairs at the Tres cerveza with a drink and some spicy corn! Delish!! Now the teppanyaki table is just one long one that seats about 20? But they have several ones through out. Each chef has about 6 people. There were 3 chefs: the main/best one was in the middle! The whole show, flames, heart shapes, catching shrimp and everything. I was in the end and our dude was very funny and very not good at all chef. He'd attempt a trick like catching or throwing knifes: all fell flat. He tried throwing "rice balls" into a few dudes mouth. No-one caught it! Super bad throws! He also tried catching an egg in the air: crack, splash...plop! :P Very funny! Doesn't know how to cook the steak medium rare..mine was quite chewy! Chicken was also dry. I blame the tricks! But he kept people laughing which was important. I thought the whole menu/food was a ok. I didn't get the dessert;it came with it. I was full. I did get a shot and made friends with a bunch of people from Anaheim! Nothing says bonding like tequila shots! Woot. Overall, funtertainment. A ok food. I'd much rather have ceviches at their other spot: habaneros!

The Moongate get's ALL FIVE STARS from me whoo hooo! My experience here was fantastic and made it to my top most memorable things on my most recent trip to Cancun. This place basically provided me that Benihana feel but only it's in Mexico which they had their own twist on things! For starters let's talk about how awesome the customer service was and how friendly the staff was to my friends and I. When we arrived on a Friday night it was of course super busy! We were quoted about 45 minutes for the wait given our buzzer and went to enjoy the nightly show that the Hyatt Ziva provides for it's hotel guest. The buzzer went off in about half that time which was most definitely a plus because we were starving! When we were seated, they had our chairs already set up at the Teppanyaki station. Our check was a joy to have because he wasn't the best at these food tricks but he made it so much fun. The waiter was the real MVP because he actually sat the bottle of Hennesy on our table after I told them the drinks were a little weak! How about that?! Talk about going above and beyond right? The way they interacted with our group was classic! You know the whole tilt your head back and close your eyes while they pour the drinks in your mouth and shake your head? Yeah we got all of that! The food was great! We received a couple of free lobster vouchers during check in and thought this place would be great to use one of them at. Since that was the case we literally ended up ordering everything to be cooked! Go big or go home! I will be back here for sure!

This my first and last stop during my stay at the resort and it is amazing Asian fashion spot. It's only open during dinner hours however you have to option to eat at a table or hibachi grill. Both menus were amazing and during the pancakes the hibachi show was just as entertaining amazing service

Great Asian fusion spot, my fave dishes are de spicy tuna, the mixed taipa that is a local version of the shacking beef and the yakidon that is a local version of garlic noodles, super good plus an outstanding selection of sake and Japanese whiskey .

Hibachi side: Started off with a steamed chicken dumpling. It was fine but I wouldn't get it if I had to 'pay' for it. Next came the sushi. 5 pieces. I'm not a good judge of this as I only eat fake sushi (cream cheese, crab and asparagus tempura battered and fried. That was not an option here). Then came the miso soup. I'm not a huge fan of miso soup but I can usually eat it. This soup I couldn't eat. Two thumbed down. The 'show' started and our grill guy was unimpressive. That was a let down. Got the combo of chicken, steak and shrimp. All of this was decent. Overall, I would go back again but with lower expectations.

The Moongate seemed to be one of the more popular restaurants at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun as it has been the only one we had to wait to be seated for (30-45 minutes). With that said, we chose to do the Hibachi Menu (they have the Hibachi Menu and a Regular Menu with sushi, pad Thai, etc) The Hibachi menu was a crowd favorite apparently, because the main dining area was available to eat right away. I can't speak for the regular menu food items, but the Hibachi was good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere of Moongate is very dark and cool inside. With the hibachi you get fried rice, veggies and your choice of shrimp, steak or chicken. (Some people got all 3- so if you want all 3 - go for it!) I had the shrimp and my boyfriend had the chicken and steak. In our opinion, the shrimp was the best! Nothing about the food or this dining experience "blew me away" but we left full and enjoyed our time. We are interested in trying the other menu next time.

Once you check in, you get sat down at a hibachi table and soon the waiter takes your drink order. The waiter also explains that the menu is the same for everyone which includes chicken, steak and shrimp with fried rice. The chefs soon roll in with thier carts and introduce themselves and start the show. Each chef has a unique way but in the end its all the same and reminds me of pretty much any hibachi place I have been too. Food was good but a bit salty like majority of the food here. Probably to match the salty american taste buds of most people. Also the food was little in quantity and unlike other resturants, you cant really ask for more because they can't make more right there again. I felt like I only got half the amount I should've gotten because the chef ended up taking a good 1/3 of what he made in each step (fried rice, shrimp, steak, chicken, veggies) for himself in the back. I just wished if he was gonna also mske food for himself then he should've brought more ingredients and not make us have to not get enough food. My reservation was at 6pm and I ended up getting hungry again and went to the itallian resturant around 9 for some pasta. Show was good, food was good just tad salty, service good, just quantity of food was too little. It was just a taste more than anything..
