If you want to rent an e-bike to take the bike trail to Ventura pier do not rent from this place!!!!!!!! The bikes we rented were the specialized como and the tern gds cargo bike and they had only pedal assist and no throttle which made it very difficult because the bikes would not go if you were not pedaling the entire time, there was barely any power and it was a hard ride compared to other ebikes with throttle and larger amp batteries that I have rented. These bikes are very weak and take a lot of effort to get up the hill back to Ojai. I was riding the tern and it only had one battery which ran out a little over a mile from the shop and we had to push it up the hill and wait in the Vons parking lot until they brought us another battery. In the website it states the bike has long range and talks about duel batteries. When I called and spoke to the shop the repair man assured me it would have enough battery to get back and forth to Ventura, I told them that was my biking intention and I wanted to make sure I would have enough battery. The bike is super heavy and has very low power. Not a bike I would ever recommend. When we asked where the other battery was when we picked it up Kelly said "don't worry you won't need it" and he was pretty dismissive to us, not friendly and seemed bothered by us. My daughter's specialized como also had no throttle and she had only 14% on her battery when she returned the bike. She also turned the battery off when she was coasting downhill to Ventura so if she had keep the battery on she would not have been able to get back to Ojai either. When I returned the bike the owner Tim asked me is I was in eco mode the whole time and I said there is No way you could ride that extremely heavy cumbersome bike in eco mode. He was also very dismissive and basically told me it was my fault the battery ran out. Also we only Ventura pier and came back to Ojai. You should also know they take a $2,000 authorization on your credit card. They never mentioned this until I went to rent the bikes. I would not recommend this shop for a bike rental. read more

These guys are great! so knowledgeable about different types of ebikes and NO pressure to buy, just happy to share their knowledge. We rented the ebikes for the day and had an amazing time on the bike path to Ventura! They are located in the downtown Ojai area, so after our day of riding we walked around and enjoyed a little wine tasting & dinner:-) read more

Highly recommend. We did a beach vacation in Carpinteria but wanted to get our Type II fun fix in. Rented a pair of mtn bikes for the day and everything was smooth, enjoyable, and better than expected. Bikes were high end, largely set for us when we arrived based on measurements we provided ahead of time, and then dialed in upon our arrival. Staff was pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us all the information needed to have a great day. When we returned the bikes exhausted and disgusting, they went above and beyond with a local brewery and food recommendation. If you're reading this - the Chief Peak IPA was great! read more

Chris was less than helpful. Shared his opinions and kept trying to push me towards what he likes. Didn't offer anything beyond me renting some bikes to see if I like what he has. He didn't offer to even let me straddle a bike for sizing or go over any options. Sorry, I cannot recommend this business as it seemed like he just wanted me to leave. If you'd like to experience a hometown bike shop that gives great customer service go to Ventura cycling center. You'll love it. I will never frequent this place again. Do yourself a favor and go to the "other" bike shop in Ojai... All of the staff here are friendly and promise the world to you, but their execution leaves a lot to be desired... They charged $275 to pack my bike in an old beat-up box for shipment, and when I asked about the structural integrity of the box I was given a snarky response! Fast forward a few days, and my bike arrives at the repair facility completely trashed from shipping damages... And now the insurance nightmare begins... Thanks Mob Shop... read more

If there is a way to give 5+ stars, I would do that. I was leading a ride of 12 on a 100 mile yesterday. We finish lunch and are 50 miles in and bam, one of our riders has a major failure. The derailleur hanger breaks and the SRAM Red Derailleur is flung into the wheel. Well now one derailleur has become several pieces. We roll into the MOB shop which about 1/2 mile from the incident. While they do not have the Derailleur in stock, the call a couple shops and source a used one from a shop nearby. Our rider goes over and buys the derailleur and brings it back to the MOB shop. After a little time, the bike is back up and running just like new. I cannot thank the shop enough for being so flexible and giving us several options before find the correct SRAM RED derailleur and getting our friend Earl back on the road. Most shops would just say sorry, we don't have one and be done. They went out of their way to help us is a terribly tough situation. I went in hoping to get my bike fixed but instead got the worst service ever and my bike wasn't fixed. They failed to repair it and wouldn't even let me come in to retrieve it. They were beyond rude and complete nut cases about masks. I wasn't allowed to come in and get my bike so I had to get someone to do it for me. No fixed bike and worst customer service ever! Never visit this establishment. Stay far far away. read more

Not a local. I called these guys in the evening needing an urgent fix. They told me to come by first thing in the morning I was riding through Ojai down to the south bay and hadn't been able to shift my mechanical front derailuer in 30 miles of climbing. Not matter what I tried I couldn't get it to shift. Turns out a tension grub screw had fallen out of the mech. Except they didn't have any. So the mechanic ransacks every screw in the shop till he finds one from a pedal. Tuned her up and got me back on the road in under an hour. I should mention my local mechanic does work on a lot of world pro's. This guy has mine shifting better than it ever has. Shout out to Tim, the mechanic and the other guys for their local knowledge. And I won't hold anything against the Saffa. read more

If you know what you want and you don't care who you buy it from, this shop has some nice bikes in stock. I for one won't spend a penny here at this point. I went in to buy a bike that they had in stock, but would need a few components swapped out. I encountered Chris Van Zyl and this interaction began as a little perplexing but ended up infuriating. He was arrogant and dismissive while still managing to be underinformed about some things. My experience over 4 decades as a cycling fanatic have resulted in me knowing something about what I need in a bike. He didn't care to listen, only to preach (inaccurate things), and when I continued to participate in the conversation rather than just receiving his sermon, he became frustrated and even more rude. I left, and went to the less flashy but far friendlier Bicycles of Ojai, a few streets over....although they didn't have what I was looking for in the store and had to order what I wanted, I had no misgivings about the added wait. The same day as I had visited The MOB Shop, a friend of mine asked me for help finding her a bike, and mentioned that she'd gone into the MOB Shop but was talked down to so severly that she felt bad about the experience for days afterwards. These folks are pretentious d-bags. Go to Bicycles of Ojai and take care of the shop that will take better care of you. read more

So glad i found these guys! I've been out of the game for over a decade and only ever rode my trusty schwinn mountain bike i got for a hundred bucks at kmart back in high school. So needless to say, it has been awhile and the game has definitely changed, and things are expensive and complicated nowadays. A came in with all of my hesitations and concerns and right away the team here put me at ease, asked some very simple questions and started figuring out what my needs were and how they could meet them. They didn't just sell me a bike, they figured out my riding style, put me on a few different bikes and took proper measurements to ensure i got a bike that was a good fit for me. Turns out i have been riding on a bike almost 3 sizes smaller than i should have been, which really made a huge difference for my back issues. A lot of things i never considered were pointed out and i felt like i was making a much better and more educated decision every step of the way. They got me in front of the computer and we talked budget and did some shopping and, With a bit of luck, they even had the model that fit me best AND in my favorite color. It was meant to be! I've been back a few times for some odds and ends and accessories and every single time it's a positive and learning experience. After one minor repair was completed the gentlemen identified several other repairs were needed and in doing so they were quite condescending and disparaging, even insinuating that I was foolish for buying the used bike in need of repairs. Rude and uncalled for, not a great way to garner business. I would certainly not go back. read more

I I had a flat in my tubeless front tire and limped into Ojai from the top of the Denison Grade. I went to the MOB Shop. Chris introduced himself and was incredible with his repair. I was ready to buy a new front tire but Chris explained that it was worth replenishing the sealant. He also explained some issues with my over-inflation tendencies. He spent lots of time on the issue and I left with a repaired tire and only a charge for a flat repair Chris could not have been more effective and gracious. Five star service. Customer is outstanding! We stayed at a hotel that had bikes for us to use but they were too big for my daughter. The Mod Shop is the only one that have childrens bike to rent (I think). There was one problem tho; I wasn't able to return the bike the next day because it was closed and I was leaving town. Dominic offer me to drop the bike off at his house and he'll take it back to the shop. What?! On his day off? So cool. My daughter was able to enjoy the trail in comfort and ended up having the best bike of the bunch. Thanks again!! We will be back. read more

I stumbled across this shop about a month ago while visiting Ojai and doing some window shopping with a friend. I popped in to check it out. After expressing my concerns about the stability of my newer road bike, Tim and Chris who know my Roubaix well, let me know that it could accommodate a slightly wider tire which would offer a little more stability. Other shops don't seem to have this knowledge. I made an appointment and brought my bike in to have the tires swapped-out yesterday, along with some other minor adjustments. Although very busy, Chris took such good care of me. When I returned for my bike, he made sure I understood a few things about my bike since I'm fairly new to road bikes. Although I don't live in the area, I ride the Ojai bike path often and will be sure to refer my friends to this great shop! read more

Last year I started riding my bike as my sole means of transportation, which means I've had a couple of things I've needed to fix up. The team at the Mob Shop has taken care of me beyond reproach. My first time in I needed to fix a flat - no problem. The second time I ended up needing to do quite a bit more - new tires, tubes, grips, adjustments, you name it - and they gave me back my bike better than before. I had a kerfuffle with a car not too long ago, and the first thing I did (after dusting myself off) was to stop in at the Mob shop to straighten out my front tire. I'm not a cycle-savy person, but they always make an effort of showing and explaining what needs to be done and why, which I really appreciate. They never make me feel uneducated or lacking and I never worry about asking dumb questions. I would highly recommend taking advantage of their service and expertise. read more

The BEST customer service I have ever received! My girlfriends and I were staying at Ojai Valley Inn and rented some bikes from our hotel to ride into town. Unfortunately on the way back my bike had broken down, but miraculously The MOB Shop was just a block away. When I had gone in there and explained what happened, the owner went above and beyond to help me. Everyone there was sooo friendly!! Not only did they all welcome us and fix my bike, they made us laugh and feel at ease during what was a stressful situation. It was the kind of hospitality you would only see out of a movie. Even though we didn't provide them any business, they still greeted us like family and helped us when they easily could have refused because it wasn't their bike. My girlfriends and I are so grateful for the kindness and service they provided us. We're looking forward to seeing them again next time we're in town! read more

We rented 2 town bicycles yesterday (Memorial Day). The shop is spacious, bright, modern, and boasts a great selection of well-maintained, clean bicycles for rent as well as a wide variety of bicycles (mountain/road/hybrid/town/electric) and gears for sale. The rental cost for a town bicycle is $12/hour for up to 2 hours and all day for $29. I called in the morning to check for availability and spoke with Sean, who later courteously handled our rental process at the shop. He was so nice and helpful -- provided a map and showed us points of interest -- that we forgave him for mistakenly telling us that the shop closes at 4pm (we returned the bikes the same day) when in fact it closes at 5pm. We wouldn't have been able to ride for another hour anyway, so it's all good. The bikes rode smoothly and they were probably the best rental bicycles we've ridden. Locks, helmets, and bags are included in the rental fee. The shop also offers complimentary filtered water at the shop to fill your water bottle. We parked our car at the shop parking lot and rode the bikes to the Ojai Valley bike trail about a block and a half south (see attached map pic). The location can't be beat if you want to start your trip in Ojai and head to Ventura down the bike trail (Note: Ojai to Ventura direction is mostly gradual downhill. Ventura to Ojai is uphill). We'll definitely consider a bike tour with them the next time we are in Ojai. read more

Great experience - incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff and owner! I first reached out to MOB Shop on Yelp for a quote / availability on bike rentals for a Sunday. The owner, Tim, quickly responded that although he would love to rent me some bikes he was not currently able to due to COVID restrictions by the local government. He told me to stop by the shop if I still came to Ojai...I did! I stopped in to say "hello" and Tim greeted us warmly, showed us around the shop and gave us some useful tips for getting around town. I highly recommend this shop for any biking needs. Beautiful layout, nice selection of bikes, gear, apparel, and really genuine customer service. Thanks Tim & MOB Shop! Be back again soon! read more

Asked if I could store my bike for a couple of hours in back and he responded I could lock my bike in front with all of their other high end bikes. Thanked him and then called THE MOB SHOP 805-272-8102. Tim answered and said 'absolutely, we'll hold it in the back for you.' Completely different customer service. Done with Bicycles of Ojai. Customer service was poor to say the least. I got a flat and they said they had to charge me double their regular rate because I walked in!! They said it would take 30 minutes and they would call me when it was done. After nearly an hour I went and picked it up; they didn't bother to call. read more

The Mob Shop has a very friendly staff who provided us with quick and convenient service. The bike shop is on the main strip in Ojai so could have walked there. I believe the owner is Tim who helped us with directions of places to bike in the neighborhood. There are also many trials that start within two to three miles from the shop, including the uber popular Ojai to Ventura bike path. One word of caution that should in no way shape or form be attributed to this shop....ladies who ride infrequently and want to go off road or more than a few miles should pay close attention to the seat. This was my first time in the shop. I had them assemble an E-bike for me. They did a great job all around. You can tell they take customer service seriously. Every single employee was courteous and friendly. They had it done in a day, reasonably priced, and really seemed to care about their customers. Beautiful rustic Ojai! I came to appreciate more of this town when we took the East and Valley tour. I'm glad that we did it. Date of visit was June 27,2015-Saturday at 12 noon,and the weather was on the high 80's which was just perfect. The reservation was made 2 days prior and Kelly helped us. When we arrived there,staff immediately attended to us and we didn't have to choose the bikes to use because they knew better. If I remember it right,they had the Hybrid bikes for us. Caitlin was our tour guide and she made the 10-mile bike tour as easy as possible although she was a professional mountain biker and from this town. Caitlin led us to the valley where there was a lot of ranches,orange and avocado farms. I learned so much about the Topa Topa Mountains and Chumash Indians who were the first residents of Ojai. Ojai is bordered by mountains as we have noticed. And food chains are strictly banned from this village. That's even cooler! I think that makes this town differ from others. It's their conservative way of preserving the town from overdevelopment. It also made sense why this small town has a lot of retreat homes because of its peacefulness. While bike touring,it felt like I was on meditation. It's that comfortable. Overall,it's unforgettable and we had so much fun especially with the hilly roads. It was a 3-people tour btw. Caitlin offered water and breaks when I needed it. And she gave us pixie tangerines at the end of the tour. Sweet! read more
