Ojai Orchard bike ride just outside downtown
    Mike J.

My wife and I did a wonderful bike tour around Ojai to learn more about the area. Stacey was a wonderful guide with 20+ years of knowledge of the area. The bikes and equipment are top notch, a great activity if you plan to visit OJai.

My husband and I visited Ojai for the first time, and we were looking for an engaging way to see the beautiful and scenic Ojai valley. Considering we were only in town for a couple of days, we wanted to make the best of our time. We came across Trails by Potter on a Google search and one of the many travel publications we hung on to. After seeing the promotional video online, we decided to go with Trails by Potter and have zero regrets! The company owners, Ian and Stacy, were an absolute pleasure to work with. I called only 48 hours in advance to see if they could accommodate us. We booked our reservation and were all set for the weekend. Ian arrived on time at the Ojai Valley Inn to pick us up. We got set up on our bikes and hit the trail. Our first stop was to meet Stacy who was training some clients on a local tennis court. Then we started to make our way on a 16 mile ride to the beach. Ian was a great host. Our bicycle tour was informative, relaxing, fun, engaging, and exceeded our expectations. We stopped for pictures and quick chats along the way. Once we reached the beach, Stacy picked us up at a local cafe and they returned us back to the Ojai Valley Inn. You can tell that Ian and Stacy love what they do and that running their business is enjoyable. After we parted ways, my husband and I thought...what a great way to live, stay active, socialize, and meet others from near and far. We are truly appreciative of our experience with Ian and Stacy and definitely plan to sign up for another bicycle tour or a hiking tour when we return.

I was heading to Ojai for a few days and wanted to do a private hike with someone knowledgeable. I contacted Trails by Potter, who got back to me quickly. Ian was certainly experienced, engaging, welcoming, and quite proficient. We stopped several times so Ian could point out some of the plants and trees along the way i.e. avocado, sage, pepper. He was aware of my fitness level and planned the perfect hike. Fresh oranges and grapefruit slices, water, and little protein bars added to the thoughtfulness. The area is simply beautiful. If you want an awesome, attentive experience, choose Trails by Potter. You won't be disappointed.

I LOVED our orchard ride with Ian and Stacy! They are so sweet, charming and hospitable. I hadn't ridden a bike in years, and was a little nervous to start but they coached me and led with patience and confidence. After ten minutes I was grinning ear to ear! The ride was perfectly paced, with lots of information on the areas we were riding through and plenty of time to chat and look around. I was looking for a relaxed experience with a tinge of adventure, and Ian tailored this ride to be exactly that. What a great memory for 2020!

Oh heck yes! Ian Potter is our favorite hiking guide ever. I'm not super athletic but he goes at whatever pace is comfortable for you. Also, he's great with identifying local flora, knows Ojai history, and I must say he's very entertaining! Super flexible, can make great recommendations on hiking areas, also great "insider" dining and entertainment tips. He will bring walking sticks, water, and if you're lucky yummy home grown oranges. Don't miss a hiking experience with him. He picks you up at your hotel so it's totally stress free.

We LOVED our family bike ride from Ojai to Ventura Beach with Ian. Trails by Potter provide everything we needed and Ian helped adjust the bikes to fit our kids before the ride. We took a couple quick stops along the route and learned about the valley and surrounding area. Stacy made the booking process easy and quick. We would highly recommend them to anyone visiting Ojai who want's to get out and explore the valley. Can't wait for our next trip back to Ojai so we can enjoy another ride, a hiking trip or maybe even a climb!

It was absolutely worth the 1 hour and 45 minute drive from our town! Parking: Free, plentiful, and conveniently close to the train station. Check-In & Service: We arrived early, and the check-in process was quick and easy. The staff were friendly and welcoming. After choosing our carts and loading our belongings, we had time to use the restroom before the ride began. It's easy to drive and if you don't feel like pedaling, the motor will do it for you -- no steering is required! Pro Tips Bring a Small Pillow This was a game-changer! We brought small pillows and placed them behind our backs, which significantly reduced vibration and made the ride much more comfortable. Thank you to the reviewer who suggested this--we had zero complaints. Bug Spray & Sun Protection Bring bug spray or insect repellent. The bugs weren't too bad during our visit, but it's nice to have. An umbrella can also provide extra shade if desired. Bring Water There is a cup holder on each cart, so staying hydrated is easy. Secure Loose Items Be careful when placing items in the cup holder. There's a small opening on one side, and smaller items can slip through. My bug spray fell out during the ride. Fortunately, there's also a basket available for purses and other belongings. Hair & Helmets If you have long hair, wear it down or in a very low ponytail so it fits comfortably under the helmet. Shoes Closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. Since you may be pedaling at times, it's possible to lose a loose-fitting sandal or flip-flop. Sunglasses Definitely bring sunglasses to protect your eyes from dust, wind, and the occasional bug. Restrooms & Snacks There is an opportunity along the route to purchase snacks and use the restroom (outhouse). Overall We had a fun time. One of our favorite parts was taking in the scenery, spotting native plants, and simply enjoying being outside. This was a unique experience and a memorable Father's Day outing that we'd happily do again

We chose the 1 PM time slot, which is a 2-hour scheduled ride that includes two stops--one in Fillmore and another at Prancer's Farm on the way back. The ride was full with 16 guests, and the guides did a great job leading from both the front and back, making sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. Check-in was quick and easy, and they even provided complimentary popcorn and water, which was a nice touch before getting started. The ride itself was an absolute blast and definitely a solid workout--very similar to cycling, covering just under 10 miles round trip. The carts are super easy to use, with clear instructions from the guides. Each cart comes equipped with a front storage rack, cup holders, a hand brake (which you'll appreciate on the downhill!), an odometer, and a switch to toggle between manual and automatic. The assist mode really comes in handy on the uphill stretch heading toward Fillmore, while the ride back is a smooth and enjoyable downhill cruise. The weather couldn't have been better, and the scenery was incredible. Along the way, we took in beautiful views of avocado and lemon groves, cactus fields, and plenty of wildlife--squirrels, lizards, and even bees hard at work pollinating. It made the whole experience feel peaceful and immersive. On the way back, we stopped for about 20-30 minutes at Prancer's Farm, where we got to see a variety of animals including goats, pigs, bulls, and sheep. There's also a petting zoo option if you purchase tickets. The farm had a fun seasonal setup for Easter, along with a shop where you can buy fresh fruit, beef jerky, and other local goods. Overall, this was one of the most fun and unique experiences we've had. If you enjoy the outdoors, want a bit of adventure, and don't mind getting in a great workout, I highly recommend giving Sunburst Railbikes a try. Hopefully my photos--and this review--help you decide to book your own ride!

We were staying in Solvang so saved $10 per person by meeting at the starting point, Brander Vineyards (vs taking the van from SB), and he sent me info on what time to get there and where to park ahead of time. There was no time wasted on this tour. We got a quick info session on how to use the e-bikes - VERY easy! - and then got started. The 16-ish mile ride was easy on the e-bikes; the one thing I will say is that I'm grateful everyone on our tour chose them because it definitely would have been different if there had been people utilizing regular bikes on the uphill climbs. We stopped for rests and photos several times, including at a mini horse farm! My 17-year-old was with me and when we made our last stop at the lavender farm William grabbed him a lavender lemonade since he obviously couldn't partake in the wine tastings. Great service! Speaking of wine tastings, there were two included, and we also got some great souvenir water bottles with the brand name on them! The lunch - caprese-style sandwiches, side salad, and charcuterie boards - was also awesome. We also had an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting toward the end, which was a really neat touch :) I can't say enough good things about this tour, especially for the price we paid. I did a tour in Sonoma last year that was more expensive and didn't include any wine tastings at all, and while I had a great time on that tour regardless, this one was above and beyond and I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!
