We went on a trail ride this morning with our Guide Donna. Couldn't have asked for a better ride. She was super friendly and knowledgeable, the scenery was beautiful and we loved our horses "Duke" and "Yankee". Highly recommend and we will be back if we ever find ourselves in Ojai again! read more

I love this place just for spending time with the animals, even though I haven't gone horseback riding yet. The kids love seeing the horses, goats, llamas, and much more up close. I know it's America and other places might see it as a liability, but I hope they continue to let people come and roam free! read more

This whole experience with Ojai Valley Trail riding Co has been amazing. Susan was great helping me schedule our trail ride. Then when we got there we met Dillon. He was our guide but even before that he was great. Super friendly and helpful. We walked around the ranch prior to our ride. All the horses seemed so happy and friendly. They all wanted to chat. The ride was great. Again, Dillon was super helpful on the ride. My son rode Dutch and I rode Mira. Amazing horses. My son cannot stop talking about Dutch. I cannot recommend this company enough. read more

This is an amazing place. The setting is peaceful, the trails are spectacular and the guides are nice. Would highly recommend.

It took everything in me to not act like I was in Red Dead Redemption. I wanted to lean down while softly petting the horse and say "Wooaah eaassyy there Nelly. Don't be scared. If we must die, we'll die. But sometimes death is the only way to remain free..." This was actually my first time riding a horse. Horses are so beast. Like that thing could have killed me anytime he wanted to. When we were checking in for our ride, a cowgirl in a long sleeve camo shirt, navy blue jeans, and some cowboy boots with spurs came out and said "Hey y'all!" in a thick Western accent. I look over and the rest of the staff are also full cowgirls. I had to double check I wasn't in the Even Cowgirls Get the Blues novel. Great read. Her name was Sissy and she was our trail guide for the day. She passionately explained how old each horse was and a bit of their backgrounds. My horse's name was Graham and he was a straight thug. He used to carry solar panels up the mountains. Straight workhorse. She had to put him near the back because he wanted to LAP all the other horses. After a 30 minute ride, we were able to walk around the grounds, and see all the other animals on the ranch. Mules, Donkeys, Cows, Horses, Alpacas, Sheep, etc. It was pretty rad. I got a good boot rec from Sissy (Double H Boots), as I'm in the market for some quality boots. Not cowboy boots though I'd be a phony. It was inspirational to see how people still live so differently. Sissy has been riding since she was in diapers and teaches lessons at the ranch full time. I often wonder if this simple of a life leads to greater happiness than climbing the corporate ladder. Comparison is a thief of joy though. If I were a screenwriter, the Ojai Valley Trail Riding Company would provide me with plenty of inspiration for a hit film. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews read more

I would recommend. I booked a pony and small horse ride for my 4 and 6 year old. The staff took my boys around their farm twice which took about half an hour. This was the first time my boys rode on a horse and pony so they really enjoyed it. The staff was really nice, too. My boys also got to pick a small horse figurine to remember their ride by at the end. Overall, good experience! read more

I rode causally as a child and have many times as an adult while my boyfriend has never been on a horse. We booked this a few days prior to arrival - bear in mind communication is hard however, just email. They will text you and it'll be good to go; be patient. It was us and another couple and the guide took us a little further off the path, leaving our ride almost a full hr and a half which was incredible honestly. She was fun, rowdy but professional. We got lots of cool Ojai and Horse Fun Facts with spats of silence which was nice. We did have to wear helmets regardless of your experience however, there are many many rocks on the trails and you are go up and down little ravins so it makes sense for safety. They do also match you with a horse that makes sense for your size and experience and dare I say "vibe" also. This was a great experience - I'm sure the price varies throughout the year however don't let me price shock you. These are well taken care of animals trusting you to trust them and those leading you put their souls into their care which has no price. I'd recommend here in a heartbeat. read more

Ojai Valley Trail Riding was my first time riding horses as well as my wife's and we could not have asked for a better tour guide than Sue. My wife booked this tour for us for our 2nd day in Ojai for our anniversary for Wednesday morning. Our hotel was only a couple miles away so a quick drive later and we had arrived. We had parked in an area for farm workers only so we quickly called to verify we were in the right spot and Sue quickly picked up and informed us we were and to meet her around back. As we looked around we saw no other cars in the lot not anyone else around and soon found out this would be just us two on the tour along with the guide, so that was amazing. We were quickly assigned our horses (Chia for myself and Misty for my wife) and were given a bottle of water, had the saddle and foot placement adjusted to our comfort and set off for our now private one hour guided tour. Sue (along with her trusty horse Chip) were excellent throughout. She slowly guided us along the trail, making small talk and pointing out various animal habitats and sights nearby. She was very friendly and knowledgeable and took away any apprehension I may have had coming in right away even as my horse began to fall behind. The hour went by very quickly and I can say I whole heartedly enjoyed my experience and would definitely recommend this experience for anyone to try out. I would definitely do this again the next time we stay in the area. read more

What a wonderful business that you should check out! We had recently took a vacation out to Cambria and made our way down to Ojai before heading home. Since we had less going on in Ojai, we found this neat event and decided to do it here instead of in Cambria where similar events are offered. We came first thing on a Wednesday morning and ended up being the only two on this tour which made it even more private and relaxing. Sue was amazing all the way through. From the time I booked my appointment weeks before, to making sure we were parked in the right area, to getting set up and our instructions, and especially the ride itself. Sue has many animals from happy healthy horses, to bulls, goats, roosters, pigs, cats and everything in between. I loved seeing all of the happy and healthy animals. For our tour I rode on Misty and Steven rode on Chia, and Sue took us on our trail ride with Chip. We had an hour long gentle horseback trail ride in peace. It was so relaxing and it was such a fun experience. The horses were so mellow and so sweet. Sue explained everything to us and we had a nice chat the whole way, speaking about Ojai, our Cambria trip, the Pink moment, the homes the rats or other critters built within the trail, the list goes on. I don't really know what else to say other than the ride was relaxing, and so fun. It was nice to do something new and it was so peaceful. Sue is a great guide and I would highly recommend checking this out. Highly recommend booking ahead of time. Prices are $85 per person for an hour long gentle horseback walk. You pay at the end, and a bottle of water is provided. read more

A fantastic spot for a Western-style horse ride. We travelled up from LA just for a trek and were treated so well by the staff and the horses alike. It was a breeze as the horses were so well behaved, and every member of staff was helpful in teaching us what to do and when. We are really grateful for this experience and would love to come back, especially considering how beautiful the surrounding area is. read more

My husband and I did a sunset ride and it was amazing! The whole staff was friendly and welcoming. Our guide, Donna, was very friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel so comfortable during the whole ride! You don't need any riding experience as it was a slow paced leisure ride. We definitely will come back in the future! Thank you, Donna for an amazing experience! The sunset ride was a private, 1 hour ride. Make sure to make reservations early as they only have 1 sunset ride per night. If opting for a regular ride, they offer plenty of options throughout the day. read more

Absolutely fantastic ride! The views were beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the horses were gentle and easy to direct. We couldn't have asked for a better ride. It was so fun that time flew by. The calfs, goats, pigs, and other horses were also adorable! Andrew was our guide and he was amazing. He was kind, chill, knowledgeable, and very friendly. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our ride and his company. When we come back to Ojai we will definitely come back here for another private sunset ride with Andrew. They had a very cute picnic area set up on the ranch for when you finish your ride. They also offered us cold water and a mini fridge to put our picnic in while we were on our ride. They thought of everything Susan was also very sweet on the phone. She seems like a very kind woman. I am very excited to come back I 1000% recommend this place! read more

Oso Ranch has such a special place in my heart. I've brought numerous friends here to go for a ride numerous times and it is such a special experience. Donna and Drake have both taken us on a ride and it's always perfect. The route they take you on is easy yet exciting when you get to go up hill just a little bit. They make you feel comfortable and make conversation during the ride. I've looked at going on rides with other companies but it's not the intimate experience you can get here. The horses are always pleasant, well groomed and calm tempered so the rides are stress free. Bring carrots to give to the horses Susan is the owner and is very responsive to emails and calls and is very kind and personable in person. Hanging around the ranch afterwards is my second favorite part of the experience. The staff happily allow you to walk around and see all the animals. All the animals look well cared for and some are even approachable, with direction from the staff. When we were there a couple weeks ago we got to meet the new baby calf I will return over and over again. And I recommend the experience to everyone! read more

During the pandemic the wife and i came up to Ojai Valley to just get away from the rat race so we booked a few days at the Ojai Valley Inn. As part of our activities the wife wanted to go horseback riding for the first time. We ended up picking an afternoon ride since the weather was nice. The first horse i got wasnt being very cooperative so we had to switch out to another horse. As a first time rider i really needed to have something more my speed and not some "bucking bronco" that was going to make me regret coming out. My second horse was definitely a better match to my skill level. The entire ride was about an hr and although the valley isnt what i would consider scenic the trail guide Donna definitely made it fun and enjoyable. read more

We celebrated a wedding anniversary by taking the 2 hour Forest Ride and were blown away by the experience! It was a private trail ride with only us and our guide Donna. She was incredibly friendly, pointing out the Enchanted Forest, a family of deer, and helped us steer the horse on the path. The staff was very clear that the longer ride was not for novices, and even though we've only been on horseback a few times, we felt comfortable with Donna's guidance. Had the most amazing time this morning with Caitlin (Katelyn?) as our guide. We booked a 10am 1-hour ride, and it couldn't have been easier to do so. Just call Susan, and if she doesn't answer, leave a message, she'll call you back! The property itself is beautiful- tons of horses plus dogs and cats that roam freely. Our guide picked out the horses for us, and they we all wonderful. Chance for me, and lovebirds Molly and Bright. We had a quick rundown on how to use the reigns, and then we were off! It was a very slow paced excursion, but it was lovely scenery. It rounded out to about one hour, which was great because the clouds disappeared and it got hot for the last half of our ride. We all definitely want to come back in the spring and book the 2 hour trail ride! read more

Had a great time riding horses here. Staff here are extremely nice and helpful. We got to walk around and see and pet some of the other horses, sheep, etc after our horse ride. The horses were very well managed and easy to control and ride. They walk head to tail in a single file line on a small path. It's a relatively boring ride without much to see, but the instructor was nice and provided good conversation throughout the ride. For $75 per person though, you really don't get your money's worth, but it's a decent enough horseback riding experience. read more

I scheduled a one-hour trail ride here for my Girl Scout troop of 10-year- old non-riders. Susan was very patient and helpful with our scheduling "issues". Once we arrived at the ranch, it was all very easy, and it was clear that they were used to dealing with beginning riders. With a group of 8 riders, we were given 3 adult guides to take us through the beautiful country that is Ojai. As the troop leader, this made me feel that my troop was being kept very safe. There were also bunnies the girls got to hold, a donkey to pet and feed, and other penned animals to amuse them before and after, including peacocks and a turkey. I would definitely recommend Ojai Trail Rides to similar groups looking for an outing. read more
