The setting is spectacular - this is a large building right on the edge of the River Bann, so ask when you are booking for a window table and you'll have a stunning view as you eat and drink. The interior of the restaurant is just as impressive - a large, high ceiling room with a giant chandelier in the centre. So, what about the food? It certainly lives up to the setting. I would describe this as upmarket Chinese food rather than the kind of place to grab your Friday night sweet and sour. The prices reflect the setting and the quality and for special occasions I am more than happy to pay them. On our last visit I had satay chicken skewers and seaweed, both of which were top notch. I than had shredded chilli beef which I also loved, and the husband had king prawns in yellow bean sauce which I felt obliged to try and also really liked. There…read moreare Chinese takeaways that I have reviewed here that I am very unlikely ever to return to; two Monaghan street Chinese takeaways are off my go to list. I got my usual king prawn salted chilli with boiled rice and my wife opted for chicken sweet & sour. The prawn dish was excellent. It was a decent portion and it was well flavour balanced between spice & salt. It did not have the acrid burn from those places on Monaghan Street who use dried chilli from jars and unlike these places there was actual fresh red chilli in the dish. It's hard to believe that many Chinese takeaways in town don't add fresh chilli to spicy dishes but have the cheek to charge top prices. The boiled rice too was perfectly cooked. I did not really like their sweet and sour sauce though as it was like a light vinegary gel really so it needs work. I only noticed as I was leaving that they offered dishes line salt & chilli pork chop available in another Chinese Restaurant just down the street so they must have common ownership.

In 3 years, mostly ordering 3 times a month, I have only ever had my order wrong twice, and it could have been my fault. The staff are very friendly including the chefs. The takeaway has a 5 star scores on the doors rating and is always very clean. The food is always large portions and great value for money, but more importantly the quality and taste is outstanding. Best Chinese takeaway without a doubt.
