It's been a while since I've been in Kells and recently this amazing little gem has popped up. From…read morethe outside it looks small, and I was concerned it wouldn't have enough seating space, but do not be fooled! There is a beautiful outdoor seating area that's been really well landscaped and put together. Lots to look at while you wait for your coffee. There is also a lovely bright converted upstairs with lots of seating and some comfortable sofas to boot. I really love the decor here. It's country style, but fresh and clean. It's a pleasure to dine here. Their menu has a really good selection of eats from sandwiches to full cooked lasagnas, you won't be left wanting. I decided to go with the Tuna Melt. Other members of my party also opted for sandwiches, the club sandwich looking particularly lovely. While I enjoyed my tuna melt, I was expecting a little better. The melt looked great on the plate (see attached picture) but looked more like mini pizzas to me. I think next time I'll be sure to ask for it as a sandwich instead. The club sandwich looked fantastic and the portions are excellent value for money. It would be a really great rival spot to the nearby Bective for evening food. I can only imagine their upstairs looking super romantic with candles and fairy lights. Why should you dine here? Support local businesses! The food is excellent value, the surroundings are wonderful and the staff are absolutely lovely. I'm looking forward to giving this place another try very very soon.

During the couple of days I spent in Carlingford I noticed Liberty Cafe directly opposite our…read moreaccommodation and loved how it looked. It's a quirky cafe with flower painted walls and wooden tables outside, so you can sit with a coffee and watch the happenings on Thosel Street. I visited early on Sunday morning, 13/08/2017, and it was wonderful as the cafe and street were nearly empty - most of bustling Carlingford seemed to still be in bed. Within an hour everywhere was bustling again, so it was lovely to enjoy the initial peace and quiet. Two friends and I took a table outside in the cool morning sun and ordered three veggie breakfasts and coffees. My veggie omelette, filled with tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms and cheese, and served with toast, was pretty good. The others ordered brown and soda breads with poached eggs. Everyone enjoyed their food. Service was a little slow and there was a slight mix up in our orders - I was initially served brown bread not the white toast I'd asked for and my friend the opposite - but we swapped our bread so all was fine. All in all, an enjoyable experience and next time I'm in Carlingford I will return to try some of the delicious looking cakes they sell.

I informed the staff about my dietary requirements straight away and they told me the options available to me. I got the carrot and coconut soup for lunch and it was absolutely gorgeous, vegan and gluten free. One of my dining partners had the quiche with smoked salmon, courgette and cream cheese, and the other had a cappuccino and a scone, both of which said their food was absolutely delicious. The staff are really sweet and overall extremely accommodating and I would absolutely recommend coming here, and will certainly be returning next time I'm in Carlingford.

A firm favourite with older folk as it offers traditional dinners midday from the specials board, and the standard soup, sandwiches, toasties and chips etc. All incredibly fresh and homemade chippies too, plus you will get a massive pot of tea with your order which is most important. Breakfast available 9 till 11 and for Gods sake don't expect a big fry up at 11.10, they are sticklers for time and that would be my big thumbs down for this place, the opening hours are DISMAL. We sat outside one Saturday morning till about 9.20 before they opened up, and are closed Sundays (?) which is a bit of a mistake as we need to eat on Sundays too, they close all the bank holidays and any other excuse as far as I can see. Some of the staff need to attend charm school as they are a bit sour looking at times, and don't laugh at my jokes (which are very funny) Other than that the food is excellent, fresh, tasty and there is always plenty of heat on which is important in older buildings as we get on in years... I like the Courthouse very much, if they would extend their opening hours to accommodate people that work and get weekends off they would be onto a winner.

The waitress was quite rude, as she bought our lunch to us she stretched right over me as if I wasn't there! She didn't even bother walking around to that other side where my mum was sitting. Not only that happened once, it happened 3 times. When I was ordering my lunch, I asked for a glass of milk, she bought me a glass of water. Had to say "I ordered a glass of milk". Then my mum asked for a pot of hot water at the start when we were ordening our meal. Instead she bought a glass of hot water! Then half way through our meal my mum asked again for a pot of hot water, we waited, waited. It never came. My dad then went up to see what was happening. They then said they had 'forgotten'
