My high expectations going into this dinner

Before I get into my review of The Met Bar & Restaurant at The Metropole Hotel, I'd like to stated a few things: 1) I've worked in the service industry and I understand how hectic it can be at times. 2) I understand that things happen and it's not intentional and 3) rarely do I write poor reviews and normally would go out of my way to leave a great review but I cannot hide my distain for the service I received tonight. I booked my reservation over a month ago to celebrate my birthday but from the moment I sat down I've felt unwelcomed. First, I walk in 10 minutes early for my reservation walking straight to the hostess stand to greet a man in a suit that I correctly assumed was the restaurant manager. Upon telling him I had a reservation for 8pm he directs me to the hotel front desk where I then wait in line behind people checking in only to be redirected back to the restaurant now right on time for my reservation. Upon addressing this to the manager he apologized and said he thought I meant a reservation for the hotel. Understandable, though I'm not sure why I'd walk past the front desk into a side room clearly labeled "The Met Restaurant & Bar" to ask about a hotel reservation but forgiven nonetheless. Next, walking back into the restaurant a nice young lady confirms my reservation and lets me pick my table which I thought was nice. Then the trouble starts again. Every waiter and manager walks past my table without even addressing my presence in a section of the restaurant that's nearly empty at this point. This goes on for about 5 minutes (I timed it) which might not seem like a lot to some people, but having gone to culinary school and been a server knowing the industry standard is 30-60 seconds for an initial greet, it was quickly becoming apparent that I was in for a very unsatisfying evening. Then the manager comes out greeting every table before he finally gets to me and asks if I needed something in which I asked if a waiter was coming to help me, and the change in his demeanor tells me he now thinks I'm the problem. He takes my drink order (though by this point I'd already picked out my entire meal: soda, alcohol, appetizer, entree, and initially dessert which I ended up not sticking around for). Never brings any water to the table. At this point others are beginning to fill the restaurant, all being greeted immediately upon sitting down by the manager, drink orders being taken, water brought to tables without being asked and at this point it feels incredibly personal. I get up and go ask the bartender for a water mason in which he begins filling an already half full mason he just walked back behind the bar with reassuring (?) me it wasn't already used though my doubt at this point was already mounting. He was very kind though. I order mussels, which tasted great (in my opinion, I've never had them before). But the bread they came with was so hard, not even soaking them in sauce helped. I order the spicy chicken sandwich with blue cheese on the side for the entree. The sandwich came with the slaw on the side and no blue cheese ranch at all (unsurprising, he didn't write anything down). I ask the manager (who was my waiter) for the sauce I requested on the side and he sends a different waitress to the table with the sauce while he goes and tends to other patrons. Not to mention the sandwich was bland and on the verge of being burnt with very little hot sauce at all and a soggy bun from the tomato and wet lettuce. Now I'm very irritated and unable to hide it anymore. I send the entree back, not interested in reordering, nor dessert as the whole encounter ruined my appetite. For the hype of this restaurant and the prices you're paying, you'd expect good food, quick service, or at the very least to not be treated like a homeless person walking in from off the street instead of a hotel resident paying $250/night for a room. I had been looking forward to this dinner for over a month now to celebrate my bday abroad and couldn't have been more disappointed tonight. I was looking to spend €100+ on myself and walked out with a €27 tab. Happy birthday to me.

Beautiful hotel right in the middle of Cork. Great location, beautifully remodeled, comfy bed, lovely shower, great full breakfast. I'd definitely stay here again!

Stayed for one night on a short trip to Cork, double room with breakfast - which we got at no extra charge due to some mix-up with the booking. This hotel has some really beautiful interiors and the service is very attentive, giving it a classy, though somewhat better than what it actually is kind of ambiance. Its main audience seems to be people travelling for business and groups of older tourists. However, when you look past the carpeted stairwells and tasteful glassworks, you start to see the small cracks: poor acoustic insulation, creaky floorboards, a very disappointing and bland breakfast service. In fairness, it seemed like they were going over some improvements, and the room we got was spotless and equipped with a nice little fridge, a new flat-screen TV and a delightful waterfall shower head with great water pressure. But at the end of the day - or in this case, the beginning - the most important part of your stay is how well you were able to sleep, and waking up to different sounds produced by the other guests from 7am onward, didn't really allow me to rest as well as I was hoping for. I'd consider booking here again in the future, but I'd ask to stay in another part of the building or in a different room type. The breakfast isn't really worth it, but the pool, staff, location, and some of the deals make it very attractive. Oh, and the nice lobby, of course :) 3.5 stars, that could easily turn to 4 once they're able to provide a little more peace and quiet.

My room was beautiful and clean and had everything I needed and the staff was always friendly and helpful. They don't have a plug convertor to borrow but you could purchase one from them. The restaurant and bar downstairs was so convenient and the food was delicious! The morning breakfast buffet was worth it, although a hot latte seemed to always take them a while. There is seating outside and the view from here is magnificent. There is also a cute bar lounge that is separate from the building down the stairs behind the restaurant. Excellent spot to sit with friends while sipping a drink or two on comfortable seating late at night. The hotel's location was also very convenient. It was not very difficult to request a taxi (or use the Uber equivalent called Freeride app) and it was just a nice swift 20 minute walk down the hill to the city center. I recommend a visit to the English Market - lots of fantastic food and drinks to try! If you like shopping there are also a lot of shops to check out, including bookstores and souvenir shops.

The place is really nice inside with lots of updates and the trendy decor you'd expect from a Moxy. I've stayed in a few Moxy hotels in NYC and enjoyed my stays. The rooms are always small but economical with plenty of storage for such a small space. That is exactly how this Moxy was, too. The bed was very comfy and the TV had the best selection of channels I experienced from any hotel in Ireland during my stay. There's a desk that folds out from the wall, a small stool, a nook with a seat, and hooks for you to hang your clothes. I really appreciated the lighting since it wasn't just overwhelming overhead lighting. The location is unbeatable as well. Right in the middle of Cork overlooking the river. There's plenty of great bars and restaurants on that side of the river but even more fun places to explore across the way. Everything I wanted to eat and drink was no more than a 15 minute walk away. The reason for the four stars is that the shower, while very nice upon first look, leaked water onto the floor. This was one of the only hotels I saw in Ireland which had a full glass shower door which closed (hallelujah!) but it somehow STILL leaked water onto the ground. Upon brief inspection, I believe the cause may be some sort of construction error. The glass didn't seem to be properly fitted. The other issue I had was with the bathroom door. It's one of those annoying barn doors which slides and this particular door would get stuck and jam if closed all the way. Being alone in the room, this wasn't a make or break issue but if I was traveling with alongside someone, I'd definitely want that door to shut properly and I definitely wouldn't want to be concerned with how I'd get back out. The bar downstairs is really cute and I found all the staff members to be absolutely delightful. From check-in to cocktails to asking questions about the bus system and mailing a postcard, every single staff member was so friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed my time spent with the bartenders, Olivia and Chris, who provided great drinks and even greater conversation. Being that it's a new hotel, I'm guessing there's just a few kinks that need to be worked out in terms of construction. I'd probably still return despite those issues. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

My sister, a recent widow, was traveling with her daughter--who is studying abroad in Ireland--and her son. When they arrived at the hotel, they discovered that all the rooms at the Moxy only accommodate two people. As a Titanium member with over 100 nights at Marriott last year, I travel frequently, yet I had never stayed at a Moxy before and didn't realize this detail wasn't clearly stated on the website. To complicate matters, both the Moxy and its sister hotel were fully booked. The only option given was to book a second room, which wasn't ideal for their situation and would have doubled their travel budget. My sister called me in tears, unsure of what to do. That's when I reached out and spoke with Mark. He was smart, kind, and incredibly resourceful. Despite the sold-out status, he went above and beyond--checking carefully until he found a solution. He located a room at the Residence Inn that was out of service due to a minor issue (a hairdryer needed replacing) and was able to move my sister and her family there. This completely saved the day and made all the difference for my sister during an already emotional trip. Instead of simply saying, "We're sold out," Mark took the extra steps to find a solution--something that should be the gold standard in hospitality. His efforts should be recognized and celebrated. Marriott prides itself on exceptional service, and Mark truly embodies that. Thank you, Mark, for your professionalism, kindness, and dedication to guests. I hope Marriott acknowledges and rewards your excellence!

Greenes restaurant is an easy choice for breakfast. I usually don't eat at hotel restaurants but frankly it's worth eating here. We went to another highly rated place for breakfast and Greenes was much better. And cheaper. Check out the buffet, there are also a la carte choices. The good: the room is spacious as is the bathroom, and the shower is lovely. The bed was comfortable, not to squishy. The problem: our room was very musty. to the point of being a problem. We told Laura about this and she brought an air purifier. This ran during our entire visit and made the situation tolerable. So that's it. Some very good, some not so good.

We ordered food to our room one evening and to our surprise it was really delicious. The only thing I absolutely hated was that there is NO PARKING at the hotel. There a spot to unload your bags but the parking garage is at least a 10 minute walk. I really did not enjoy that. For one thing, it started raining on our way over to the car one day and we were soaked. Yes, we had rain coats and umbrellas but the wind was so terrible that it blew the umbrellas backwards. When we finally had to leave we walked over to get the car and it took forever to get back to the hotel because there is construction in front of the hotel and traffic is diverted.
