By far, this was the best hotel I stayed in out of the 4 when I was In Ireland. It was barely a 10-minute walk from the Kent Station on a mildly busy street. I almost walked right past the entrance because it was flanked by 2 restaurants. What a unique place! A cobblestone entryway, cafe tables set up outside and a gorgeous waterfall at the back. There is a small sign directing guests to the front desk. I was met by a smiling lady who had the cutest accent. I don't think it was Irish but I didn't ask. I had changed my plans and route before coming to Ireland but had some trouble booking my room for 2 nights instead of one. That was the first question I asked her because I could tell I really liked the hotel and didn't want the hassle of moving after 1 night here. She checked and she had another room but it was different than the one I was originally placed in. Fine with me! I was so relieved. Check in was seamless from that point on. I had the option to add an Irish breakfast at their onsite restaurant, Greene's, but I told her I would think about it and let her know. My room was on the 1st floor and I took the teeny tiny lift up there due to my luggage but after that, I used the stairs. The room was tucked away in a corner and the window was overlooking a small alleyway in the back but it was perfect. The decor was modern yet comfortable. I had a queen bed all to myself! And the bathroom was so sleek and edgy. Definitely reminded me of places I've stayed at in NYC. There are a ton of pubs, carry out spots and fine dining restaurants literally steps away from the Hotel Isaacs. Also, I checked out a very nice liquor store down on the corner, and a highly-recommended coffee shop on the other corner. To make matters even better, the place I needed to meet my tour for Blarney Castle and Cobh, Paddywagon Tour Company, was only a 5-minute walk away. Meant I could take my time getting up in the morning. I was so happy everywhere I wanted to go was so easy to get to from my hotel. Without a doubt, I will be going back when I return to Cork in the near future.

Cheerful, affordable and central (4/5 green stars also) My brother and I stayed for 3 nights in an apartment in Hotel Isaacs. It's a 5-minute walk from the bus stop for the AirCoach from Dublin, and less than a 10-minute walk to the Kent train station, St. Patrick's Street, and the Crawford Art Gallery. The rate was just under €100 per night, which is pretty good considering that it's so centrally located and included two bedrooms (comfy beds) a living room area and adjoining kitchen. We used the kitchen just a little but it's pretty well stocked, with a full oven/hob, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, dishwasher, a few pots and pans and a full set of china and utensils. Sound insulation on the windows was not very good, so noise from traffic and the hotel laneway was fairly loud at times, but most of it subsided by 11 PM. For sure, noisy neighbors could ruin your night if you are unlucky. There were a few quirks - the bathroom light didn't come on until 3 seconds after you hit the switch, the hot tap had really low pressure while the cold tap was such a torrent that it pushed water back out of any item you were filling! Hotel upkeep could be a bit better too - one lamp had no bulb, the carpet was a little stained in places, but overall it was clean and cheerful. I also found the reception staff to be a bit odd - there was construction going on the whole time, and instead of apologizing at check-in, the receptionist kept asking us about whether we were excited about the gin bar they were building. It would have been better to give us a free gin to compensate for the noise and disruption than to try to convince us that the building work was very exciting, as if we were children. None of these things bothered me a huge amount, and ultimately the hotel is a bargain considering the location. For social and environmental impact, I'm giving them 4/5 green stars. Isaac's is owned by the PREM hotel group, who own around 40 hotels, mainly in Ireland, the UK and Belgium. PREM have virtually nothing to say about sustainability or social issues so they need to do better at communicating any efforts that they make. On Glasdoor, employees give PREM a mediocre score, citing the poor pay and benefits. Besides this, my score is based mostly on the observations below... Greenes Restaurant is a highlight of the hotel - they do a good job of transparency on their menu, and list all of their suppliers on their website. There's an emphasis on local, organic, free-range and even foraged ingredients and 95% of ingredients are sourced within 50 km. In our rooms (apartment) they had a few things in place to save resources. All taps operated on a push mechanism - this could be annoying for some but it does save water (except in the case of our torrential kitchen tap). Their shampoo and liquid soap came in pump dispensers that the staff could top up for each new set of guests, saving on unnecessary plastic bottle waste. The soap and shampoo was from Gilchrest and Soames, who tend to avoid synthetic or animal-based ingredients and also don't test on animals. Tea and coffee supplies were not so ethical: coffee from Nescafe and tea from Barry's (although they did also supply Rainforest Alliance certified tea from Tetley). They had a separate bin in the kitchen for recycling. Thanks to the manager for providing updates on some of their conservation efforts: installation of LED lightbulbs and eco-flow shower heads, encouragement of towel re-use, and waterless urinals. They've reduced energy use from their boiler by 60% and will probably expect further reductions when they eco-update the apartments next year. Suggestions for improvement: Isaac's need to do a better job at educating guests on their heating system. After we checked in, I called reception to say that it was way too hot and they were kind of snippy, saying guests are not supposed to touch the thermostats! I hadn't even touched them (the previous guests must have turned them up) and as it turned out we didn't need to turn the heat on at all for three days. The heat only turns on when you put the key card in the slot inside the door, but this isn't explained at all in the room. So they would save a lot of energy (and avoid overheated guests) if they just included a notice on how this works. So, overall there are some pros and some cons and I think they deserve 4/5 green stars. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me! (greenstarsproject)

The Isaacs Hotels advantage is its perfect location in Cork. Only a couple of minutes from the city center and near to some cool pubs and restaurants. What I also liked was the big walk-in shower which is absolutely modern and quite unusual in the pretty old-school bathroom. Also the beds were much more comfortable than they appeared. When we checked in I first had to claim some keys from reception for the parking lot and they explained to me where it was situated. And funnily: the hotels car park is on church grounds, 3 walking minutes from the hotel and safely secured by a gate. As said before, the room was ok, it has a TV, hairdryer and safe, this was somewhat "funny" though and worked strangely, but we figured it out and it locked and opened when we needed it. One morning we decided to have breakfast in the Greens Restaurant which was alright-ish. Upon check out I saw though that they charged us for 2 full breakfast instead of 2 continental. Unfortunately my credit card has been swiped already and those 4 euros did not really hurt. The 1st night was really quiet, on the Friday night I was awoken by loud talking from the outside and later then, at around 5 am our neighbors started their after party in the room next door, well...they did not speak in hushed voices. But then again:you get what you ask for in a city hotel over the weekend! Room was clean and spacious though, would go back again.

My room was beautiful and clean and had everything I needed and the staff was always friendly and helpful. They don't have a plug convertor to borrow but you could purchase one from them. The restaurant and bar downstairs was so convenient and the food was delicious! The morning breakfast buffet was worth it, although a hot latte seemed to always take them a while. There is seating outside and the view from here is magnificent. There is also a cute bar lounge that is separate from the building down the stairs behind the restaurant. Excellent spot to sit with friends while sipping a drink or two on comfortable seating late at night. The hotel's location was also very convenient. It was not very difficult to request a taxi (or use the Uber equivalent called Freeride app) and it was just a nice swift 20 minute walk down the hill to the city center. I recommend a visit to the English Market - lots of fantastic food and drinks to try! If you like shopping there are also a lot of shops to check out, including bookstores and souvenir shops.

The place is really nice inside with lots of updates and the trendy decor you'd expect from a Moxy. I've stayed in a few Moxy hotels in NYC and enjoyed my stays. The rooms are always small but economical with plenty of storage for such a small space. That is exactly how this Moxy was, too. The bed was very comfy and the TV had the best selection of channels I experienced from any hotel in Ireland during my stay. There's a desk that folds out from the wall, a small stool, a nook with a seat, and hooks for you to hang your clothes. I really appreciated the lighting since it wasn't just overwhelming overhead lighting. The location is unbeatable as well. Right in the middle of Cork overlooking the river. There's plenty of great bars and restaurants on that side of the river but even more fun places to explore across the way. Everything I wanted to eat and drink was no more than a 15 minute walk away. The reason for the four stars is that the shower, while very nice upon first look, leaked water onto the floor. This was one of the only hotels I saw in Ireland which had a full glass shower door which closed (hallelujah!) but it somehow STILL leaked water onto the ground. Upon brief inspection, I believe the cause may be some sort of construction error. The glass didn't seem to be properly fitted. The other issue I had was with the bathroom door. It's one of those annoying barn doors which slides and this particular door would get stuck and jam if closed all the way. Being alone in the room, this wasn't a make or break issue but if I was traveling with alongside someone, I'd definitely want that door to shut properly and I definitely wouldn't want to be concerned with how I'd get back out. The bar downstairs is really cute and I found all the staff members to be absolutely delightful. From check-in to cocktails to asking questions about the bus system and mailing a postcard, every single staff member was so friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed my time spent with the bartenders, Olivia and Chris, who provided great drinks and even greater conversation. Being that it's a new hotel, I'm guessing there's just a few kinks that need to be worked out in terms of construction. I'd probably still return despite those issues. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

My sister, a recent widow, was traveling with her daughter--who is studying abroad in Ireland--and her son. When they arrived at the hotel, they discovered that all the rooms at the Moxy only accommodate two people. As a Titanium member with over 100 nights at Marriott last year, I travel frequently, yet I had never stayed at a Moxy before and didn't realize this detail wasn't clearly stated on the website. To complicate matters, both the Moxy and its sister hotel were fully booked. The only option given was to book a second room, which wasn't ideal for their situation and would have doubled their travel budget. My sister called me in tears, unsure of what to do. That's when I reached out and spoke with Mark. He was smart, kind, and incredibly resourceful. Despite the sold-out status, he went above and beyond--checking carefully until he found a solution. He located a room at the Residence Inn that was out of service due to a minor issue (a hairdryer needed replacing) and was able to move my sister and her family there. This completely saved the day and made all the difference for my sister during an already emotional trip. Instead of simply saying, "We're sold out," Mark took the extra steps to find a solution--something that should be the gold standard in hospitality. His efforts should be recognized and celebrated. Marriott prides itself on exceptional service, and Mark truly embodies that. Thank you, Mark, for your professionalism, kindness, and dedication to guests. I hope Marriott acknowledges and rewards your excellence!

It's a great location, close to the train station and right in Cork's city center. We paid about €130 for a room with a double bed. It was clean and overlooked the River Lee. The front desk attendant had toothbrushes delivered up to room for us when we told her that we forgot ours. She also let us stow our bags during the day after we checked out of our room. We ate breakfast in the gorgeous dining room, which had huge windows with a view. Both of our meals were delicious! We thought that breakfast was served until 11 and not that the dining room closed at 11, so we unfortunately showed up at 10:40, but we were accommodated anyway. They were so nice about it. Our afternoon tea was so relaxing. Our server even gave me a fresh cup of tea to take on the train ride back with us. It was a perfect mini break from Dublin. We will definitely be back!

When we turned down MacCurtain Street, we realized that the whole street was under repair/renovation, but luckily there was no loud noises during our stay and it was still manageable to get in and out of the hotel (and the area in general). The construction may have also made the driving in that area more congested and stressful for driving but it wasn't too bad. The hotel manager said that the road work has been going on for over a year as the city is updating all of the sidewalks and streets. We could tell a noticeable difference between the unfinished side and the completed side, with the newer truly being quite nice. The hotel itself was large and fancy inside. I particularly loved the artwork and decor in the hotel hallways, featuring historical pictures of Cork and the River Liffey in black/whites. The decor was a little older and luxurious feeling so we were actually surprised at how fancy it felt. The hotel manager that checked us in was extremely friendly. We took 1 of 2 elevators/lifts up to the 3rd floor and were shocked when we realized our room would be river facing! The view from our room was pretty cool, being able to see the other side of this little city, the River Liffey, and many bridges. Being on the south side of the building, we also got a nice breeze and amazing sunset view on our second night. The hotel's amenities were very nice too. We were welcomed with a dessert tray in our room with some petite cheesecake bites, brownies and macarons. Yum! The room felt very clean, the bathroom was beautiful, clean and spacious. The beds were the most comfortable than our previous 2 hotels, and it also had plug-ins for a USB, and iron, hair dryer, and plenty of closet space. Once the construction ends, I imagine this place will go up in price and be even more attractive of a option for lodging. For more recommendations and tips from our Ireland trip... Follow @vanmblin

For one thing, it started raining on our way over to the car one day and we were soaked. Yes, we had rain coats and umbrellas but the wind was so terrible that it blew the umbrellas backwards. When we finally had to leave we walked over to get the car and it took forever to get back to the hotel because there is construction in front of the hotel and traffic is diverted.
