I had such a lovely meal with my family at the Mermaid. This is far better than your average pub dinner!!
We all had starters, mains, deserts and drinks and the bill was about £45 (including tip) so it was pretty amazing value when you consider the quality of the food.
I tried:
- We were given some gorgeous homemade soda bread to start with. It was just out the oven, and was simply lovely.
- I shared the Mermaid's Catch for a starter - it involved whitebait, a giant prawn, anchovies and perfect squid, each came with a gorgeous dipping sauce
- My main was the Salmon with mint champ, quails eggs, 'leek hay' and lots of yummy bits and bobs. It was delicious...and massive!
- I also tried Romeo and Juliet's poison for pudding which was various fresh fruit and popping candy that was then covered with a rum and super-ginger beer.
Everyone else seemed to love their food as well. The portions are HUGE so it is worth wearing something loose fitting if you plan to order as far as deserts! The staff are all really friendly and helpful which only makes the whole experience better. read more
