Great for night owls or anyone looking to grab a late night bite. There is plenty of parking here. This location spacious and they have plenty of seating inside and outside. Like many places now, they have self ordering kiosks which is convenient and easy to use. I had a family member in town with me. We browsed the menu and I decided that I would try their classic grilled cheese. It's grilled up with three cheeses (sharp cheddar, muenster & fontina). My family member ordered the steak and cheese which is made of angus sirloin, provolone, grilled onions, red peppers, and jalapeños. We also ordered fries, mac n cheese, a double chocolate shake, and a fountain drink. Our food came out after 10-12 minutes or so. It passed the eye test and smelled good. After I snapped my photo we dug in. The grilled cheese looked dense and I thought it would be hefty, but it was actually light when I picked it up. It had a light crispiness when I bit in and the cheese was perfectly melted. The bread kind of had a doughy airy texture that perfectly complimented the crisp texture of the bread and melty texture of the three cheeses. The fries were nice and crisp with good flavor. The mac n cheese was good with nice melted cheese flavor. The shake was thick and had nice chocolate flavor. They offer craft sodas... none of the mainstream stuff unless you buy a can. I tried their black cherry craft soda. I really liked it. This place has a fair amount of parking. It looks like a busy shopping center, so I'd expect during peak hours it might be more difficult to find parking. Overall, I had a very good experience here and I'm a fan. Had a very good experience coming to the Melt. The cashier was kind and attentive. Now, the burger, now this is what I'm talking about. The burger is exactly what a burger should taste like. The bread was buttery and warm and the beef blended oh so good with the cheese. The bacon and BBQ sauce complimented the burger so well. The fries were above average. We stopped here on Friday Night during prime UCSD Student dining hours, 8:30p. The place was packed, which is always a good sign. When you walk in, there are self service ordering kiosks on the left. Then, there is an option to walk up to the front counter to order. We chose to walk up and order. It was a great experience and the man who took our order was customer service oriented. We ordered: Shroom & Swiss Burger, Patty Melt, Garlic Parmesan Fries, a fountain soda to share (sugar regulating) and a "Peruvian Chocolate" brownie. Food was very tasty. Please know that this good food is greasy, so be prepared. They have hand spun shakes that are $7 but that seemed a bit pricey to me. I believe that they may be delicious, by the looks of the pictures. I do love the independent soft drink company that they use. There is a great size seating area for 49 people. They have bar height and table height seating. You will also find a large screen tv on the wall where the NBA Finals was broadcast. My husband and I took a trip out to La Jolla for a vacation. Looking at restaurants open past 8:00 P.M on a Wednesday evening was a challenge, but we found The Melt opened near La Jolla Village. The Melt is located in a relatively large shopping plaza next to other businesses such as Sprinkles. There is ample amount of parking spots available. As soon as you enter, you'll notice off to the left, there are two self-service kiosks where you can place your order. If you decide not to use the kiosks, you can still order at the register. On the right side, there are open tables to sit at. It was extremely busy Thursday night around 8:00 P.M and most tables were already in-use. We decided to place the order at the register since we had to customize one of the orders, specifically the steak and cheese. It took us about 20 minutes to place our order at the register, as there were other customers ahead of us, and the team member whom was taking the order, was also handling all of the take-out, and pick-up order requests. When we reached the register, we had placed the following orders 1 Original Cheeseburger 1 Bacon, Chicken, Mac'N'Cheese 1 Steak and Cheese Sandwich (No Jalapenos, No Onions, No Peppers) After we placed the order, a puck was provided for us. We found one open table available and it was extremely dirty. There was food left over on it from previous customers and dirty napkins underneath the table. We ended up cleaning up the table before eating on it. We didn't wait too long for the order though, less than 10 minutes. The Steak and Cheese was scrumptious! All of the cheese inside the sandwich was melted and oozing out! There was plenty of steak in the sandwich. The seasonings used were well balanced with the steak and cheese. The Original cheeseburger was okay. The burger patty wasn't seasoned, but the ingredients added to the burger helped enhance the flavor. The bun was decent, light and fluffy. The Mac N Cheese was decent. The bacon and chicken really helped to bring out the flavors for the dish, but if it was just the mac n cheese, there wasn't much flavor in the sauce. Price wasn't too expensive for all of the food and drinks, less than $40.00. It was great to try out the restaurant once, but I'm not sure if we'll be back. read more

First time here and the decor is very warm with wood tones and black. There is an option to order from kiosk or counter. I got The Spicy Mission Burger, very good flavor from the first bite, especially the fresh sliced jalapeños. My daughter got the Three Cheese Classic grilled cheese and it was soooooooo cheesy.
