Had a most delightful holiday tasting with Catherine, on Thursday, December 9th, 2021...the pour was amazing and all the wines were delicious and you can tell the wine maker is a perfectionist. I tasted the 2017 Cabernet, and absolutely loved it along with the Four Kings, which is a cabernet blend which hit all the right notes. We spent close to two hours taking our time tasting and not rushing through so schedule by appointment and drop by and give Meeker Vineyards a try. I feel you will be absolutely astounded. I visited Meeker because of a recommendation for their Fro-Zin and merlot from a fellow Airbnb guest when I stayed nearby the area last year, and I'm happy that I followed through. Upon arrival, I was greeted by two dogs! and then Charlie (owner) and Catherine (tasting toom manager) welcomed me warmly on a Wednesday afternoon, providing me stories and details behind the wines they let me taste -- and lots of recommendations for what to check out, taste, and drink in the area. I walked out with two bottles of their Fro-zin and one Verdelho (Portuguese white wine), and dropped in the day after to buy a bottle of their merlot. Meeker is located in the small sleepy town of Geyserville. If you're looking to retreat from the hecticness associated with the bigger wineries, I recommend visiting Meeker for the a more quieter and personable experience -- and for their lovely wines, of course! read more

My husband and I went to CIN in Windsor, CA and had the RollerCoaster Red by Meeker Vineyards. It was SO Delicious that we decided to go to the winery the next day and try some more of their wines. We had a wonderful afternoon talking with Katherine while she poured many of their wines for us. We also got a chance to talk with the winemaker, Lucas Meeker and really enjoyed learning so much about their wines and the processes he uses. No understatement: THEIR WINES ARE AMAZING! Their tasting room is a little bit hard to find but totally worth it. They were very welcoming and willing to share their wines and knowledge with us. We went home with two cases of wine: one of RollerCoaster Red and an assortment of all their other reds. Worth adding this winery to your tasting afternoon. read more

I have died and gone to red wine heaven! I actually came to Meeker the first time at a work-related wine tasting tour (yeah, I love where I work, too). The tasting room is/was (they're moving it I think...) in an old bank and they keep the wine in the vault. They used to do tastings in a tee pee. This should give you some idea about the atmosphere of general irreverence and fun that seems to surround Meeker. I always get the feeling that it's really one big extended family and I just came over for a visit and a glass. Anyway, the wines - fantastic! They specialize in Zinfandel (I cannot keep the Idle Home Zin in my cellar - it just disappears), but have several other varietals as well, almost all reds. If they are pouring it try the Handprint Merlot and the Petite Verdot. Yum! And they have a lovely dessert wine called Fro-zin (don't give me that look - I find most dessert wines sickeningly sweet too but this will make you a believer). Since Yelp is about service, this is not what I thought about their wines, though they did not impress me either. I guess to be fair for the sake of the review, I should state that the woman and young man that poured for us told us that they were Meeker's "B team". Hmm...not something we want to hear when we're paying for a tasting. They had plenty of bottles to taste...in fact probably too many since towards the end (what was there? Like 8...) they all started to taste similar. What made me disappointed in this tasting room was that we learned nothing. Not one single thing. When we asked questions they referenced the back of the bottle, which didn't have the answers, and we could have looked at our self. They were not busy in there at all and it would have been nice had their been some conversation going on. They couldn't even tell us where the grapes were from which was sad. At the very least, I think Meeker should invest in some information cards on their bottles so that tasters can learn more about their wines. Also it would have been nice if they had the price of bottles listed somewhere. We didn't end up buying anything in our group of 4 people. My husband asked if he could taste their malbec and he was told no. Obviously we're not going to buy a bottle if we can't taste it. Pretty much the tasting was a bust. We enjoyed so-so wines with above par inadvertent local entertainment at Meeker. Meeker is located in a on old bank building in downtown Geyserville. While we were tasting, the town drunk came in. She stated that there was a restaurant on the block that would no longer let her in since being the town drunk was not an honor in their eyes. When she learned that we were from SF, she claimed that she was well. She claimed to have grown up at 17th & Divisadero. Ummmmmmm.. . . . . OK, honey, I live at a corner that doesn't exist either. It's all good. ********************************************************************** 2/27/08 UPDATE: I did buy a bottle of their '03 Zinfandel and just we just drank it. I have to say it was quite good especially for the price -- $14. It needed to breathe and smelled of alcohol upon opening. But, once it breathed a while it was a typical Mendocino Zin exhibiting that mellow Mendo Zin fruit. read more

When I started writing this review I did not realize it was going to turn into a love letter but it has. I apologize in advance therefor for the gushing Culture: Meeker winery is family owned and operated. They have a small team so anyone not family is treated like family. Once I became a "tribe member" that treating folks like family, spread to include me. I enjoy every visit and what's more I feel comfortable taking friends and family of any back ground (whether they like big cabs, complex pinot or white wine with ice in it) the spectrum of the offering in this tasting room leaves space for everyone to find a favorite. Wine As to my personal favorites they include Charlie's chardonnay. It is incredibly balanced (think subtle french Burgundian style) very light oak not too buttery not too astringent but like Goldielock's said "just right". It is my go to wine 3/4 of the year. What is more it is a true value in terms of price point. As much as I have enjoyed hunting, I have found no equal within Sonoma county or outside for under 50 bucks a bottle. Lucas' Pinot Noir, Grenache or Syrah and Petite Syrah offer up all the flavors of more expensive old world Burgundy but with the charms of the new world. These wines taste youthful and expressive while speaking to a classical heritage and palate. Sonoma county is full of great pinots and Lucas's are consistently some of the very best! Service You wont find any pretentiousness here. Meeker, I'm sorry I prematurely judged you! This was the first winery of many that we stopped at during the Wine & Food Affair up in Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. And unfortunately at first glance, we all thought this stop was a bust, however... Once we entered the tasting room, we all realized we were mistaken... Not only were there at least eight wines for us to try, but they had delicious pulled pork sandwiches with pomegranate coleslaw as their food, a really cool interior, huge pours, an extremely friendly staff, and awesome Motown music! Although Meeker isn't the most aesthetically pleasing winery on the outside, the inside is really amazing. The tasting room is an old converted bank. Wine is served out of the old teller booths and the huge vault has been converted into a wine cellar. Unlike other wineries we visited during the Wine & Food Affair, the staff at Meeker were extremely friendly and fun. Being younger many wineries offered us skimpy pours, however Meeker provided us with hefty pours of their delicious wines and we were even able to meet the wine maker who was also pouring that day. All the wines were delicious...everyone in our group was a big fan of the Winemaker's Hand Print Merlot. Now I'm not usually a Merlot fan, but this wine was bigger than other Merlots I've tried and the slightly spicy finish was perfect! Plus, the wine bottle is actually decorated with the winemakers handprints! Seriously, these wine bottles were beautiful I contemplated buying one soley based on the rainbow handprints... Meeker also had some great Zins and really beautiful labels for all their wines. We also really enjoyed the FroZin...this dessert wine was sweet and smooth, and combined with a piece of dark chocolate, it really was a party in my mouth. Meeker ended up being by far the favorite of all the wineries we visited during the Wine & Food Affair...maybe it's because I don't really remember the wineries towards the end...but probably not. So if you're looking for a fun wine tasting atmosphere, combined with reasonably priced wines, Meeker is definitely your one stop shop. read more

Meeker will make you WEEP like a little SISSY BOY because their wines will dominate your pretentious palate with their awesomeness. Not only will their BIG wines (4 Kings) make you realize how much your notion of wines is sad, but almost every varietal they have is spot on. Meeker is our favorite vineyard and they offer enough variety that we basically just subscribe to their wine club (The "Tribe") and call it a day. No other vineyards need apply. Yes their wines cost more than 2 buck chuck, but jeez, you can go to Napa and drop $300 on a bottle. I think $25 is pretty fine. Also, the whole Meeker family (literally) is incredibly cool, nice, and full of personality. My only sadness is that we now live in Seattle and cannot attend their events and visit them in person. read more

I am Proud and delighted to be the 1st person to review Meeker! Also a little shocked because they are so good and fun I can't believe no fellow Yelpers have written about it but here goes. I have been a wine club member here for 5 years! Started with the Taste of the Valley and just dove in from there. Visiting Meeker is like going home, great wine at great prices, sweet and generous wine slingers who know how to pour. As a "tribe" member I have enjoyed several barrel tasting, harvest, crush and just plain old time to party parties hosted by Charlie and Molly and eachone has been a blast! These folk put a beast on a spit, hire a band get the chocolate fountain flowing and it's ON!!!!!!! Check them out when next you tour the Alexander Valley area it is worth the stop and I am betting you will be a tribe member before you leave the door. This is a great little stop in the one horse town of Geyserville. Meeker has taken an old bank hostage, and transformed it into a wine tasting room. I have been here on multiple occasions over a 3 year period, and consistently a good time is had by all. They have some great red wines. The Four Kings Cab is my absolute favorite here. They also make a great Zin dessert wine called "FroZin." I have made some great "FroZinis" using the suggested recipe. The recipe is simple: * One part FroZin * One part Vodka * Lemon Mix equal parts FroZin and vodka, and shake over ice. Serve in a martini glass and garnish with slice of lemon. I highly suggest you make a stop up here when you get overexposed to the vineyard setting and are looking for a nice place to have some fun. read more

Meeker has the exact attitude I want to see in a winery. These are people who love drinking wine, love making wine, and above all love sharing wine. This is still the only tasting room I've ever visited where the people were more interested in sharing their creations than making a maximal sale. My first experience with Meeker was when Kimon T. brought me as a guest to their anniversary party in 2007. I walked out four hours later full of food and wine and with a case - the last ever, apparently - of their 2003 Carignane. I had a chance to spend a while chatting with their winemaker and even had a chance for a barrel tasting of a 2006 Cabernet. It was awesome. I went to their tasting room some months later and spent the last 45 minutes before close chatting about wine and drinking some insane number of pours. Again, I felt like I was among old friends instead of among people who were trying to get my money. It was a really great experience, even if the Meeker people are a bit nutty in the head. This is the winery that, more than any other, defined my indoctrination as a newly-minted Californian. For that, and for some really, really great wine, I am grateful. read more

I want to be able to give Meeker a better rating, as they were friendly. Alas, I really didn't like any of the wines [the Chardonnay was okay, very inoffensive but nothing really much in its favor] and the tasting charge [which is refundable with purchase] varies with group size. Also, somehow I and the people I was with failed to be caught up in the attitude. So the 3 rating is an average of 4 for effort and 2 for wine. Absolutely loved this winery. We bought over a case of wine here, it was that good. The tasting was a blast, the guy behind the counter was knowledgeable and funny. Why can't all tasting rooms have this kind of service? He listened to what we said and altered our tasting to fit our palate. Excellent service. As the other reviews have said, it is an old bank, complete with teller windows and bank vault. This lends to a great atmosphere, and a comfortable feel. My new favorite winery! We've had it with the touristy, crowded, just plain insane, Napa valley, so we've been exploring the Sonoma side of the world. On our last weekend getaway we stayed in Cloverdale and found some really nice wines and vineyards. Meeker was a standout for several reasons - the relaxed atmosphere, the great wine at reasonable prices, and the amazing number of pours. Great little stop on our planned route from Fieldstone to Silver Oak. Tastings are $5 and comped with a purchase. We were the first group of the day at noon so it was certainly a very laid back tasting and our host was playing DJ as well. We got a great history of the winemaker and each wine, even good background on the cool and unique labels. Wines were very reasonable from$28-40 for most bottles. This was prob the most unique tasting we have ever had and recommend a stop there if near the area. Make sure to try handprint merlot...I got a magnum, couldn't help myself. We went here. We bought a bunch of wines. The labels are funky. The grapes are from all over the place. The tasting room is an old bank. In my mind, Meeker is how I visualize a California family winery making it with all the big corporate giants trying to push them out. We definitely bought a bunch of the lobster cove unoaked chardonnay at a really good price. I got some of the higher end stuff too, for fun. Lots of tannins on the reds. This is a good spot. On our first time to Geyserville, we stopped by Meeker on recommendation by everyone else on yelp - and dang it was a good idea. The whole area is very quaint and we stayed at the Geyserville Inn and ate at Diavolo (about two steps from the Meeker tasting room). I love the counter at which you taste, nice big slab of a tree trunk, beautiful. Also, the second time I went there, I spilled a little bit of wine on my white (of course) dress - I am traditionally a bit of a klutz so this is not necessarily due to too much vino...and Kelly (the woman pouring us wine) was SUPER helpful and even gave me some sort of anti stain solution to try out as I attempted to remove the red blotch. Okay - so you aren't sure what to expect, it looks like a tiny room in a tiny town, will they be pretentious? will they be Napa-esque snobs? Will the wine be decent but over priced? NO! We had a great time, and I will admit that they have a lot of wines to taste (with somewhat heavy pours) for only 5$ - if nothing else it is a great deal, especially since whoever is pouring has always been helpful and awesome to chat with. We have now visited the tasting room a total of 3 times, and every time we enjoyed what we drank, and bought at least one bottle. They have a wine club, that when you join, you become a 'tribe member' - and they have a good range of types of wines as well as prices. Their signature 'handprint merlot' (you'll know why it's called a handprint after you see the bottle....) and barbarian blend are my personal favorites, but there hasn't been one that I have said 'yuck' to - so that must be a good sign. This is my favorite winery to taste at...it's laid back, you can ask them to change the music, you may some of the regular Tribal members who also love to taste and strick up conversations, the pours are generous, and the wine is EXCELLENT. It's a family run business and get to hear the stories of what is going on with everyone. They have my all-time favorite dessert wine Fro-Zin, which is like alcholic grape juice with a twist and is perfect with chocolate. I am a Tribal member and am never disappointed with what I receive. I always go to the winery (which is in an old early 1900's bank / the wine is kept in the vault) to pick up the wine, because I always have a great time when I'm there and bring a couple of friends with me. This is a crowd favorite. My hubs has been a tribe member for several years and enjoys some serious discounts. This place is the opposite of pretentious. It's a great way to end your day of wine tasting. They play great music and turn up the volume when you enter the room. A novel approach to wine tasting. I have to admit, I think the wines are a bit of an acquired taste, but almost all of our friends have a few favorites here. My personal favorite is the Kelly Cab. Julane is super sweet and seems to have the patience needed to deal with some of the loose characters that come in at the end of the day. I give this place thumbs up. They deal out there reasonably priced and well crafted wines in a completely inviting and unpretentious way.
