"Mediterranean Sampler" Warm pita bread and 4 dips.(Creamy white Tzatziki, Nutty chickpea Hummus, Red pepper & Feta cheese, Spinach & Feta)

Four of us stopped in last night, when it was in the single digits in January, and had a great time & enjoyed every bite. No complaints here. Lancaster "old-timers" may remember this building as "Kane's Restaurant" once upon a time, and other than a sign change out front to "The Mediterranean" I'm guessing there really haven't been any updates since the 1970's. So don't be surprised by the vintage interior, either. We started out with the Pita Bread & 4-Dip appetizer, ("Mediterranean Sampler") which consisted of fresh, warm pita triangles and a choice of creamy Tzatziki, hearty Hummus, a Spinach & Feta cheese and a slightly spicier Red Pepper & Feta cheese dip. All of the dips were quite good, and we alternated between all of them. I'm fond of Greek food already, so I ordered the traditional Lamb Gyro, with everything but onions, and a side of Greek Fries (with lemon juice squeezed over them and Feta cheese sprinkled on top). The Gyro was stuffed full, with generous portions of warm meat, cheese and veggies. Very tasty! I like to eat my Greek Fries quickly, because they tend to cool down quickly and never quite taste the same when they are cold, so I only ate half of them. But they were really good. One of the others in my group had the waitress copy my order, and she seemed pleased with her meal as well. Another member wanted a basic hamburger, and got the All American Burger and seemed very happy with it. It was a nice, large cheeseburger on a brioche bun, came with a side of chips, and was only $7.75. Not bad! (In fact, she tends to be very frugal by nature, and commented that she couldn't believe how reasonable all the prices were). The fourth member of our group wasn't interested in eating Greek Food when we sat down, and she'd planned on getting a burger also. But she surprised all of us by ordering the "Shrimp & Scallop Mediterranean" with a side salad and basic fries. She got a full plate of seafood, assorted veggies and rice, and she loved it! It was more than she could eat, so the other three of us accepted her offer to have a taste and it was delicious! We were all too stuffed to try the desserts, which was a shame, because the cannoli looked fantastic. Maybe next time. If a "hole in the wall" vibe doesn't scare you when you pull up to this building, give this place a try. I think you'll be pleased that you did.

Falafel

Mediterranean on 33 is the best place in Lancaster to get Greek food. Ok, it's the only place. They don't have competition thankfully. It's okay but nothing mind blowing. They have a bar so you can get a drink while your food comes out. I had the falafel sandwich. It's about $10 and comes with fries. The falafel were pretty tasty. It was kind of burnt. The inside however was okay. It would have been nice if there had been more. They only put in a few pieces. Fries were good. Of course how could you screw those up. It was a lot like Greek fast food. Some of it was good and other parts could have been better. This could be visited again if going into Lancaster but I wouldn't make a trip for this.

Chicken platter

I got a platter because i wanted to try the Greek salad and hummus and it seemed like a good deal. I was disappointed to find the salad to be some lettuce on my plate with feta and a tomato wedge. The chicken had a chicken fajita Mexican vibe more so than Mediterranean in my opinion. The hummus was delicious though and the salad dressing was also really good. The weirdest thing to me about the platter is the French fries. It doesn't fit. I would have much rather skipped the fries and had a bigger salad. Atmosphere wise the dining room is surprisingly decent considering the outside of the building. However there was loud oldies music playing which also didn't fit. The music made it feel like a dated 50's diner and the staff kept skipping songs which made for skipping around. I think this place definitely has potential but it needs some work.

Drive by this place all the time so decided to stop in after work and pick up dinner. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very nice inside. Decent size bar and seating area. We got the gyro pita platter with seasoned fries, a side of falafel, and baklava. The food was very good, not much else I can say about it. Now, the reason for only 4 stars. This is mostly a sit down restaurant, so not sure how many take out orders they get. There weren't more than 4 tables occupied when we got there, with 3 more groups arriving afterwards. It took them over 30 minutes to get us our order, which IMHO, is a bit too long to wait for a takeout order. The other part of the 4 star rating is the gyro was a bit chincy when it came to the meat. I've had gyros for cheaper with more meat. Overall, we'll go back to dine in but probably not do take out. Ownership does seem friendly and the staff as well. I believe they are the only Greek place in Lancaster.

Feta and olives and hummus

I was in Lancaster with my friend going antiquing and we ran across this place to eat a very late lunch. We had two appetizers, the hummus and the olive and feta. They were both really good but nothing too special. The feta was fresh and big chunks. I had a spicy gyro for my meal. It is a huge gyro and comes with tasty chips. The service is ok, again nothing special. I would go back however because there are not many restaurants around.

A $9 small salad compared to an $11 large salad. To add gyro meat is the same 4.50 flat fee. Receipt is visible for pricing.

A small salad that charges the same amount (4.50) as a large salad to add Gyro and gets half the portion of the meat. 2 strips vs 4 strips. The small salad is smaller than a Wendy's side salad. And at that is a $9.00 salad. My husband didn't take a photo of his before eating. But his was an $11 salad compared to a $9 beside it. And notice the receipt charged the same amount to add gyro meat.

Very yummy chicken shawarma

It has lots of vegetarian choices like any Middle Eastern place should. The falafel is the best in Athens, and the sides are good as well. Ali Baba's opened in 1988. It's the oldest continuous single family owned truck on Union Street. They now have 3 trailers, one of which is always at this location. It has a semi-permanent location at Congress and State. They also do catering and will appear at various festivals through the year. I always have the falafel gyro. It's about $5, and is a good size and filling. There's also the typical kinds with chicken and lamb, and they always smell good even though I have never eaten them. It has some good sides like the baba ghannouch and the hummus appetizers, which come with pita bread. The gyros all come with the Ali Sauce, which is made with yogurt. You can substitute baba ghannouch or hummus for it, and it's still good though. I recommend this food truck over the others on Union Street. It's so much better and the prices are fair. The service is always fast and friendly and it tastes so good after the bars when you need something to fill up.

Generous portions for the King and just the right amount of onion. Some places go too strong with the onion. The standout was the sauce! Just had a nice garlicky zing to it. The fresh cut fries were a little greasy but still good. The sleeper was that Greek Custard tho. When you walk in you have a case of temptations staring at you. The custard got my attention. Cold and dense custard wrapped in filo dough then topped with cinnamon and honey drizzle. Dang. This thing played with my emotions. Just so good and sticky. I would make a trip here just for this. It all came to about $22 with a can of Diet Coke and it hit the spot. The gyro was in the top 3 I've ever had, the fries I didn't really care for, the dessert selection I would make a special trip for. Solid 4 Stars

I would have never tried this place otherwise. I didn't even know it existed and I travel this road every day! I ordered 2 gyros regular, a Cajun fry and a Shawarma bowl. Total was under $40. I sat and waited a good 10 minutes or so for my food. First impressions: place was well lit, small but big enough to accommodate a big group if you wanted to eat there. It was a long and narrow space with the kitchen taking up half the restaurant. The girl who took my order was very nice and patient with me. It was my first time there and I kept changing my order around. She was very sweet and friendly. I was taking pictures and noticed the place could use some cleaning up. It wasn't dirty but not spotless either. Here is the best part: the food! I got my food and took it home and yummy! Food is 5 out of 5! Loved the sauce that came with it: probably the best one I had. My husband said they were not skimping on the meat as his gyro was so big he could hardly close it! The fries were soggy because I took them to go but I air fried them at home and they were good. They were loaded with feta and spicy peppers! It was an interesting combination: not bad but different. All in all I had a great experience and would probably go back. It's lots of food for your buck and I enjoyed it! I just love Greek Express and Agape too so lots of competition. Agape is great because their Shawarma is so tasty and you get to customize everything. Greek Express is so affordable, quick drive through and delicious. I think if I came back I would try their entrees. They sounded good!

I absolutely love the food here, but we rarely come here, as there are some things about this spot…read morethat I wish would improve. The food is absolutely worth the price. But it's a bit bold to charge the same amount as Northstar Cafe when the service experience is not nearly as premium. As a guest, you wait at the door to be seated, and you're standing there with a bunch of confused DoorDash drivers. You get a table that you have to trust is claimed for you, and then have to go stand in another line for counter service at the back. This line moves slowly because you can't see the menu until you are right by the counter, so people have to quickly figure out what they want when it's time to order... and to no surprise, this slows things down a lot. Even more frustrating is that this line to order overlaps with the exit point from the kitchen, so you have to dodge servers who are running hot food to tables. After you order, you have to wait in yet another line for the one beat up Coke Freestyle machine in a tiny crowded corner space. There is no space where guests can get extra napkins or to go boxes, and if you want a refill, you again have to wait to use the Coke machine. Once you pay, you are pretty much on your own to get anything you need -- and you have to stand in yet another tiny crowded space to wait for what you need. The overall ambiance is akin to a sports bar or a quick-service restaurant, but you're paying the premium price you'd pay at a full service upscale restaurant. And the food really does deserve that price... but the hospitality experience is just so lacking that I'm not willing to spend the money, which is frustrating considering these are all fixable issues. Koble really just has an identity crisis. Are you an upscale, full-service restaurant? Are you a quick-service lunch spot? Are you a sports bar? Please pick one and commit to it.
