The Mayfair Chippy - My to go order was so tasty. Fries could have been crisper but the fish was on point!

The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. One of those spots that doesn't try to reinvent fish and chips. it just does the classic version better than most places. Would easily go back next time I am in London.

(I heard the non GF version was also excellent.) Platter came with flavorful mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a spicy mayo (or currry for the non GF platter). Chips were large and delicious. Portion was huge, and easily shareable. Delicious!! Service: It was ok. We waited in line for a really long time (more than an hour) but we were checked on from time to time. Once we were seated and ordered, no one really checked in, but we asked if we needed something. Ambiance: Cute outdoor seating. In door seating was okay. Reservations get to go into a back room which seemed nicer. Lovely side street in a crazy busy popular area. It's a solid 4.5 stars for what it is because the food was so good. I'd return. Tip: Make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, or be prepared to wait...a long time...Or, skip the line to order takeaway and go enjoy your food!

I'm not sure on that, it's just something I thought we caught on to before we left and there started to be RESERVED tents going on the tables. We went and had Scotch Egg, Calamari, Arancini, fish & chips and STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING. Oh. My. Goodness! First the Scotch Egg. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but it was....ok. It was a little plain. A little tasteless. They could have thrown a few spices into the meat, just a little something. To say that we've made better at home wouldn't be far out. But still good. The calamari was cooked just right. It's what you expect out of a calamari appetizer. Was it the best you'll ever have? Not really. Worth the price? Add it to your appetizer list! The rice balls, which is arancini is, were good. Add a little salt to the top and they were, also, as you'd expect. The fish & chips were exactly as we were hoping when visiting an English Pub for fish & chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, the coating was fabulous, and of course the chips were a perfect compliment to the fish. A great fish & chips experience. The star of the show was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. What a treat! Granted I've nothing to compare it to, this was my first time having it, but whether I've had it before or not THIS was perfection. Perfect texture, the flavour was amazing, the caramel drizzle was perfectly proportioned, and the little bit of ice cream on the side was just perfect. I would go back here simply on this dessert alone. As for the drinks, because, you know, it's a pub....I couldn't say. I don't drink alcohol but my Diet Coke was great! Fresh bottle! ....I suppose I could have gotten a non-alcoholic beer. Wait....did they have non-alcoholic beer there? SOMEONE FIND OUT IF THEY HAVE NON-ALCOHOLIC BEER THERE. The atmosphere was great. I can see how it would be perfect in the evening and on into the night. Very welcoming with a great looking bar.

The Ivy at Chelsea Garden is truly underrated because it's awesome!…read moreI had been looking at 3 different spots for an 'Afternoon Tea' experience. One of those places was The Ritz, the other was Harrods, because they're well known & people talk about them. I'm ecstatic. I chose the Ivy! Those other 2 restaurants are much more expensive, the Ritz is more than double for the same or similar items. I always make reservations ahead and this was no exception, I made my reservations 2 months early. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and our Hostess told us we had a good table because we made a reservation. Making that reservation really helped because we got the bomb table!! Best seats in the house! Our table was the only round, corner table in the restaurant. It was situated perfectly in the best, cozy, most beautiful part with ample view of everything happening. Our Afternoon Tea was such an amazing experience. You choose from various teas and the tea kettles are brought out. I chose a mint tea and my husband got Earl Grey. The tea kettles are large and hold lots of tea. Once the serving tray is brought out, our server added liquid to the top bowl and it activated the sublimates inside the dry ice, causing a lovely scene. The food items brought on a beautiful serving tray included the following for both: Ivy 1917 Cure smoked salmon and cream cheese finger sandwich. Grilled chicken and truffle mayonnaise brioche roll. Pickled cucumber, courgette and basil double decker, my personal favorite. Scones Warm fruited scones with clotted cream, fresh strawberries and strawberry preserve. I enjoyed the scones because they weren't overly sweetened, like in the US. Sweet Blackberry and cherry choux bun, so yummy!! Espresso coffee cream, which is quite a decadent mousse. Apple, cinnamon and caramel cupcake, very cute and delicious. Perfect amount of cinnamon. Madeleine with chocolate sauce. They also included 2 chocolate gold wrapped medals, keeping close to the Olympics. We thought this was a perfect touch. It may not seem like a lot of food, but it was. I brought home one of the scones, the Madeleine, and most of the choux bun. I really loved the location of this Ivy. Chelsea was a great place to walk around after our meal. I wish I lived in London, I would come back for the Sunday roast and Brunch. Great vibes, cool people, excellent service. Loved it.

Tip: You must visit this food hall. It's awesome!…read more You know what? When there's a listing for a department store food hall, you know that it's good. No, not good. Fantastic! I was at this food hall in December 2013. It's located on the ground floor of this large department store. The displays are extremely fancy and captivating. I recall seeing mini cakes that looked yummy. Even the fruit in the display case, as in apples, pears, and more, looked amazing and in pristine condition. The pastries looked scrumptious. I could smell the croissants! You can get sandwiches, from egg salad to lobster rolls. Feel like steak and chips? Yep, you can get them here, too. I frankly couldn't tell you what you can't get here. I felt like a dream seeing so much good food, but it wasn't. It's definitely worth a visit, whether you end up browsing like me because the prices were steep or you end up splurging. There was a wine section that had shiny bottles of fancy wine varieties. You could get cheese to complement your wine. Everything in this store looked beautiful and elegant. I would do a few things differently when I return to this food hall: - I'd do afternoon tea. I'd actually splurge to experience tea here because I didn't realize that I could until after my Harrods visit. - I'd find a hotel room with a fridge, so I could bring back pastries, macarons, sandwiches, and more. - I'd dine here to experience the entire food hall experience instead of dining at a restaurant within Harrods. The more I reminisce about where I've been in London, I want to return! (55)

Normally I wouldn't buy bottled water, but I couldn't resist -- this water was so pretty and looked so refreshing, with pieces of fruit in it. (We bought one with cucumber and one with bright pink dragon fruit.) For two sandwiches and two bottles of water, it came to £28.50. Not particularly inexpensive with the currency conversion (ouch!) but much cheaper than going out for lunch. Also, the sandwiches were delicious! It's a shame that we couldn't find the food hall when we had first visited Harrods two days prior. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England]

The featured four course menu was priced at 90 quid per person. I passed on that offer. Located on a quiet residential street. If you are driving, you may even find a parking spot (no guarantees). Is this place remarkably better than most well run pubs? IMHO, not particularly. But, I'm an old curmudgeon, it's probable that your happiness here will surpass mine.
