I would give 5+ stars if it was possible. We were visiting Monterey from LA and had a problem with my Odyssey where driver side window glass slipped in the door. I was thinking to take to the nearest Honda dealer, but found Masters in Yelp. Even though I was a walk-in , Steve accommodated me and Wes fixed the glass temporarily at least for us to drive back. The most important detail, he charged me nothing for the service. Steve said he understands running into problems while on vacation and it was a minor job for them. Thanks Steve and Wes. I wish The Masters were in LA. Not just me, but I would have made all my friends go there. If you are in Monterey area you should definitely visit The Masters. read more

My Honda Clarity's warning indicator said "Emissions System Problem." I remembered our office manager talking about the great service she received at The Masters and so I came by around 5:30 today. Even though it was past the shop's closing time, Michael graciously took the time to do a diagnostic check and solved the problem - the gas gasket was not tightly closed thus causing the warning light "Emissions System Problem" to light up. Highly recommend!!! This review as long overdue. This month last year I was from out of town visiting the area. My car unexpectedly started having an issue that I was concerned was very serious. Traveling alone, as a woman, and concerned it wasn't safe to drive home, I was in a desperate search to find help. I had already been to multiple shops and Masters Auto was the first to accept me as a walk-in. Steve, Mary, and the team were quick, kind, and a huge help when I needed it most! They are the very best masters indeed. I have been regularly using their services several years ago. They are not only great at what they do, but also at how their treat people. Two weeks ago I got a signal showing my car's tire pressure was low. So I went to the nearest shop (Bay Brakes Automotive & Tires) where they refused to fill the tires with air, and insisted that I need to buy 4 sets of tires for $650+ right away saying the tires were bad. So I went to Masters, and JR there told me my tires were in good shape, and promptly filled up with air all the tires including the spare one free of charge. Thank you! read more

I'd gone to a place of ill repute to get my oil change and they came back with $2600 quote for new shocks, struts, and a bearing. I took that quote to the Masters and they said my shocks and struts were fine. But the bearing needed to be replaced. They saved me over $2000. I first found The Masters on Yelp, and they were one of the first shops I went to to get an estimate for some engine work (valve adjustment among other things) on my Honda Accord. Their estimate wasn't the lowest of all the shops I visited; however, they were the best choice by far. The choice was easy to make as their estimates were either identical, or cheaper than the Honda dealership, both the mechanics and owners I spoke to came across honest and trustworthy (and even ended up saving me from unnecessary, recommended maintenance), and they also came highly recommended from other auto mechanics in the area who did not feel as well equipped to work on Hondas. In the end, the work was done quickly, and professionally, and the final price was not far from the estimate (still cheaper than the Honda dealer). The next time I need any engine work done that I don't feel comfortable doing, I would definitely bring my business to The Masters again! read more

One word: awesome! After reading nothing but 5 stars for The Masters, I thought why not! And yes all of which are truthful 5 star reviews. Brought my truck in (Toyota truck for they specialize in them and Honda, Acura, and Lexus) for a misfiring cylinder due to fried spark plugs and bad wiring. Greg, the frontman handled it from there. I was working and on lunch so I left it there and they said they'd call me with an estimate. Sure enough within the hour they gave me MORE than fair estimate, $250 out the door, parts, labor, and diagnosis in all! They had it all done right before I got off work! Now THAT is winner's circle there. All on top of the fact they didn't bother to add stuff or make up more "problems" to rip me, a college guy, off. That's how you do it! Please, if you're a Toyota/Lexus/Honda/Acura owner, save the headache and take it here! I attempted Victory Toyota but $133 for a freakin diagnosis? Forget it! After showing a couple of good mechanics what they charged me to change out my timing belt, they were astonished and said I overpaid by a few hundred dollars and my car had problems after the work. Thanks to fellow Yelpers, I found The Masters while passing through Monterey earlier this week on a road trip between Portland and San Diego, college daughter in tow, driving a 1988 Honda Accord we'd just purchased a few days before our road trip. The automatic transmission seemed to slip a couple of times in at low speed accelerating uphill. I was very nervous about driving this little car all the way to San Diego with possible tranny problems. I called Greg Lemmon (an ironic name) on Tuesday morning just before 8:00 am. He said he had a busy day with 12 cars on the service roster, but that he would try to squeeze us in to take a look at the car. We arrived at 8:30, he greeted us, and said he'd take a look right away. Within an hour, The Masters had changed the tranny oil, checked the car over and test drove it. Greg said the tranny oil was a little dark and smelled "off," but otherwise, the transmission seemed fine. He noted that some models of Honda have a reputation for not so great transmissions but that we shouldn't worry. The car seemed fine. He also recommended that when we arrive in San Diego, we have another tranny fluid change, and sold us three quarts of special Honda transmission fluid -- the best for the car according to Greg. He only charged us $61 for the fluid change and another $30 for the three quarts of special transmission fluid. He also taped a small transmission washer to one of the quarts of fluid telling us that it should be changed with the fluid. Well, here we are safely in San Diego and the car did great! I was so very grateful to Greg to taking good care of my daughter and me. He went way above and beyond, clearly knows his Hondas and understands what it means to deliver excellent customer service and quality care. My only regret is that I don't live in Monterey otherwise he'd be the only person I'd have work on my daughter's Honda. read more
