It's beautiful it's vast and it has so many events all the time including twice a year they have the one a couple of kind show where the whole floor has so many vendors who are artistic and design designers and clothing and candles and food samples. There's art on the mat once a week at night it's beautiful and it's reflected on the river. There's also a nice bar and restaurant called Marshall's Landing inside and it's really lovely.

Cut and pasted from their website: "THE MART is the largest privately held commercial building in the United States: it encompasses 4.2 million gross square feet, spans two city blocks, rises 25 stories, and is visited by an average of 30,000 people each business day (or nearly 10 million people annually)." Quality/Quantity - 6 stars for the night light show, see other Yelp. I think I uploaded pictures to the riverwalk review...? Art on the Mart. Illuminating Public Art, founded in 2018. See website for hours of shows. Times vary by season. We were told that there were showrooms for furniture, etc. But did not find any, did we get lost? Or was it because we did not have a pass to get by security in the second building? A few dining options, see pictures. Best known for Marshalls landing. Full bar, see picture. Atmosphere - Good work space areas, see pictures. Both private and public. Plenty of spots to grab something to drink and work. Open 5 days a week from 9am to 5pm. Not including the night light show. Service - N/A. Price - N/A. Owner Suggestion - Congrats on all your 100+ years of success. 1940-50's - Largest producer of trade show, I bet LV, NV is #1 now...? 2016 - $40M renovation.

Had my first trip to the Merchandise Mart to spend some quality time in the Yelp Chicago office! What an incredible building and atmosphere. It is interesting reading the older (pre-COVID) reviews and knowing that the bustle being referenced is nowhere near what it once was, given that most workers are opting not to return to the office if given the opportunity. Doesn't change the fact that this building is remarkable - nestled right on the river and tons of awesome spots for drinks or food during or after work. There's tons of showrooms for window shopping and inspiration, and a great number of places to switch up the flow of your workday and sit somewhere beautiful. Transit runs directly to the Merchandise Mart, and it's scope truly is impressive. Looking forward to my next visit and grateful I had the opportunity to check this awesome spot out.

A big ass building. It's popular with trade shows and other big events. The Merchandise Mart always has something going on. Big lobby and plenty of places for hanging out and mingling. Showrooms are always filled with stuff, usually expensive stuff. Its purpose is to push merchandise, get it? It's why it's popular with all these industry figures bringing their trade shows and all that going on. The building also has lots of places to get something to eat, such as a food court, and there's lots of space for big ass banquets and parties. Many companies use the office space that isn't being used by the trade shows and other events. There's a shitload for sure. Has its own CTA stop also. It gets busy out there as well and it's annoying. This is still a must see for whenever.

I come here multiple times a year for a tradeshow, and there's nothing that's really lacking with this venue. There's plenty of dining options including a food court, McDonald's, Starbucks, and an Amazon Go... cherry on top is that it's connected to a hotel...The Mart is safe, clean, beautiful, and convenient- basically the perfect environment to get some business done.

Daaaaaannnng, this place is MASSIVE. Back when I visited Chi-town in August for a pair of PJ concerts (Pearl Jam, not Pyjamas) I wanted to make a stop here not just for it's architectural brilliance and historic presence in the windy city BUT also because it is the home to Yelp's Chicago office. Don't take my word for it, see what the Encyclopedia Brittanica has to say about the building affectionately known as 'The Mart': Merchandise Mart, also called the Mart, is a landmark building in downtown Chicago, one of the largest commercial buildings in the world and the largest wholesale design centre. Encompassing some 4,200,000 square feet (390,000 square metres) of floor space, the Merchandise Mart spans two city blocks along the Chicago River, rises 25 stories, and was the largest building in the world when it opened in 1930. Today it features retail shops, boutiques, radio and television studios, 10 floors of office space, and 11 floors of permanent showrooms. It hosts dozens of trade shows and community events annually that attract designers, architects, builders, consumers, and tourists alike. Not mentioned above is that it is SO massive that it has a road running through/underneath it! Given Yelp's affinity for local businesses it's fitting that it exists here in the epicentre of Chicago in a building so aptly named

(No I'm not going to give you a history lesson! Lol) As of late, the building was acquired by Shorenstein Properties in 2012 and officially renamed River North Point in 2013. Now that we've established that the name is River North Point, on to what's inside.... The notables --- on the 15th floor you will find the lobby for the Holiday Inn (with nice views btw) and a restaurant, skipping down some...on the 10th floor you'll find the Chicago Sun-Times, then the 2nd floor you'll find what others describe as a "glass enclosed bridge/skywalk" but I call a pedway that connects this building to the Merchandise Mart (awesome!), and lastly the 1st floor where you'll find the Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago, a convenient store (C&A News), and an informational desk in the lobby. All the other floors are filled with various office spaces that are leased by different companies. This building is located right off the river and easily accessed by the Merchandise Mart Brown/Purple Line. How do I know all of this??? Well I work in this building, duh!

The Apparel Center offers a convenient go-to for Chicago-area boutiques and wholesalers to meet without the hassle of business travel, and has quite literally changed the way I purchase clothing for my shop. Rather than schlep hither and yon for wholesale shows in Dallas or Attanta or New York, I can head downtown, put in some orders, and head back to work in the space of an hour. Efficient in layout and clustered on one floor, the showrooms range from spotlessly minimal ro chaotically cluttered, but that's part of the charm. The showrooms at the Apparel Center are staffed by helpful and honest people, and I can often see them within a day or two's notice. The Apparel Center also works in tandem with the Merchandise Mart for Stylemax, the quarterly wholesale show, so I can also see clothing representatives on a regular basis and have local go-to people for emergency orders and the like. I am immensely grateful that this resource exists for people like me and would love to see it grow into an even more vibrant locale for Chicago's burgeoning fashion scene. Until then, I wil continue to thank my lucky stars I can easily do this type of pivotal buying right downtown!

It gets its name because it's next to the Kluczynski Federal Building, which deals with immigration and other things. A lot to see around here. There's also the Old Post Office. It basically is kind of like a town square but instead of grass there's a lot of concrete and granite. Of course it's not completely barren of plant life as there's a few shrubs and trees. There's a few important buildings that you may need to go to if you need documents or whatever. One is the Old Post Office. Though it no longer is a working post office, this is a historically significant place and is now used for office and retail. In the Federal Building is where you deal with customs and immigration. This is where to get passports. Also there's events and festivals. It has a farmers market that goes from spring to fall that features handmade crafts and locally grown produce. The Flamingo statue is the part that gets all the attention but the plaza itself has lots to see too.

It's in the International Style, designed by famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe so that it's all black glass and steel, rectangles and straight lines, without a bunch of decorations or anything. Then in the center, you have the Alexander Calder statue, Flamingo, which is a bright pop of color in the center. It makes for a great place to sit and people watch and hang out in the shade on some of the public seating. It's kind of austere, and unwelcoming. It looks like it could be the center of Darth Vader's central offices for the bureaucratic side of running the Empire. There's three buildings that make up the Plaza- The Post Office which is a low flat building that matches all the others here. John C. Kluczynski Building that's known as the building where 'People go in, but don't come out' since it has Immigration and Customs Enforcement in here. Be weary if you need to go here to ask questions or 'get a document' or something. I don't know what happens at the third building, Everett McKinley Dirksen Building. The buildings all have the same motif- they have this rigid system of lines all running parallel or at even angles. You can find all kinds of spots where everything just aligns perfectly and makes a really cool scene with the black buildings and the Flamingo- it's absolutely worth checking out.

Having said that, it still does look still fairly new. I've only shopped at a few stores here but it's fine, like just about any mall. There are a few stores you can enter from the street and others you have to enter through the interior of the mall. There is parking on the street as well, which *can* be cheaper depending upon how long you're planning to be here. You have to pay for parking on the street for the duration of your stay, however long or short it may be; however, you can park in the garage and there's free parking for 90 minutes with validation. I don't know how validation works at all stores (perhaps you have to buy something), but at some of them they have a little machine where you can get validation. The biggest problem I had here was with the parking. The lot is far too compact. When I was driving in looking for a place to park, three cars were pulling in and out of spaces to center themselves because the driveway of the lot is too narrow to get a good approach. I'll admit it was annoying because it took several minutes--car 1 backs out and then back in, followed by cars two and three, and then they each do it again until they're in whilst I and anyone else behind me has to wait for them to finish their dance. When I was leaving, I had to wait while another couple cars did this too. This was pretty poor planning on the part of the builders.

There's also a bus top nearby and the Red Line is only a couple blocks away. In the center portion between the shops and apartments on the sides, there's some gathering space. There was an orientation video we had to watch and once that was over, we were told we could move to the other side, which I did. Since I was going to be there for a while, I brought my laptop to get some work done. There are vending machines for snacks, drinks and coffee. The whole process for selection was pretty organized as they called folks by groups to the court. In the end I was not called and we were told we could come up and get our checks and leave. As they had us in groups, they were calling us up by group numbers....all done very efficiently After I left, I went down to hang out in the plaza.
