Also, does QI moving like for tension, emo stresses, and he knows a lot been working in the industry for a long time. I've been going to the spa at The Marsh for years, because Rebecca is one of the most educated and skilled estheticians I've ever met. She takes care of her clients and provides a relaxing experience, heated table, soft lights, and so many extra touches to pamper you. I almost always choose a custom facial so she can assess my skin and suggest the right treatment based on the season and things like whether I have breakouts, my skin is dry, etc She uses top of the line products and never hard-sells anything but will be happy to help you with product suggestions if you ask. She's gentle and I always leave feeling calm and radiant. And plus my skin feels amazing for days afterwards! The recent reviews reflect some changes that happened after The Marsh was gifted by the previous owner, Ruth Stricker, to the YMCA. Many things changed. The gorgeous gift shop closed, which I still miss wandering thru. However the facility is still located in a beautiful setting, easy to get to, and there is a cute cafeteria onsite. You can always visit the spa without being a member, however the membership is very affordable and there are fitness classes and facilities so definitely worth checking out if you are a Minnetonka resident. read more

Body and Mind come together once more for me since the Marsh reopened. There are numerous therapy pools but as an aging runner who has enjoyed the elevated enclosed running track with banked corners and lots of room plus windows to nature, I enjoy the Japanese therapy pool where I can run with the water as resistance to get a great workout but not injuring my joints because I am supported by warm water up to my neck. If a get a little worn out I have available numerous machines in the workout area that are state of the art and give me a perfect workout for my legs or any other part of my body. After spending no more than 10 minutes in the steam room I take luxurious shower and then get dressed in the huge locker room with beautiful wooden lockers. I make sure I have at least 20 minutes or more to climb the stairs to the meditation tower where I take care of my mind and meditate in peace and quiet. Afterwards if I feel like it I can run down to the new Anna Lisa cafe for a mug of great coffee and a freshly baked scone. Life doesn't get any better than this. read more

I am glad I've had many outstanding facials around the country having lived in many different places. I don't count this place as having talented and professional skincare/facial aestheticians. There are numerous issues with the Marsh and The Spa - one being the way customers are treated. It's like a military style management and the customer is a cog in that system. Policies change and they forget that maybe the customer was expecting what they thought the policy WAS. So they don't bother to BACK it up - they just make the customer suck it up. I suggest management roll with it and treat the customer like they matter to the business. I went to treat myself to a facial. The person knocked my chair so many times I was wondering how is that supposed to make for a relaxing facial. I've never had that lack of professional etiquette. The steamer could not be felt on 3/4 of my face and I had to keep asking to place it so I can actually feel it. 3x. I gave up. Then as she was talking to me she would STOP working on me so she could talk...just basic conversation about skiing so really no need to stop working on me. It's my facial. Can I feel like I am there for my facial? I don't mind talking but can we still work on the facial during my paid 50 minutes? Then I was being told about products while she stopped working on me and handed me tiny products I can't see or read. So I had to ask if we can go over the products later...like, on her time! She then placed an LED mask on my face without even telling me she was doing it - my eyes were closed so I opened them wondering what was being placed on me. RED LED lights - never told me she was going to be doing it and to KEEP my eyes closed. NEVER offered me the opportunity to protect my eyes till I spoke up. To me - very unprofessional. I've had so many experiences at the MARSH like this and I think I am done. Perhaps I'll just go to Chicago or Atlanta where I know I can find a truly relaxing professional thorough facial and massage. The room is so dated. The music is exhausting and the place seems most interested in their rules and not their customers. $135 - not the best return for the dollar. They don't seem to care to grow - stuck in their rules and now the MARSH was gifted to the YMCA. All the cool potential is on the line. It is supposed to be a place for healing. Too many really awkward incidents arguing with management...done. They seem clueless. read more

The atmosphere at The Marsh Spa is superb. I can't argue with that. Hence the two stars. Aside from that - I went in for a self tanning application and that was all just horrible. The scheduled appointment was for 50 minutes. I was there for 90. So, block off extra time. Unfortunately the additional time didn't equate to a better tan application either. This is the worst tan application I have ever received. I would've been better going to a standard tanning salon to get a spray tan!! Or saved my $80 and done it at home with some Neutrogena tanner. I look terrible. I figured for $80 I wouldn't end up looking like a bronze zebra so I booked this appointment just before my vacation too. Looks like I won't be spending much time poolside until it fades and I look normal again! read more

My mothers been a member for decades. Every 4th of July we come visit her and use a guest passes a few times during our visit. Now since the YMCA took over they do not provide any guest passes per year and you must pay $30 dollars to work out. No wonder people are telling me it's now empty and very few people even go. Stressed out instead of relaxed--that's my experience. I had a gift card, so my husband and I made appointments for a spa afternoon as part of a landmark birthday celebration for me. We both had MLK Day off work and were looking forward to a mini-vacation.The first service I had an appointment for, a pedicure, went well. Then it was time for both of us to have body work appointments. He was ushered in on time. Twenty minutes later, I went to front desk to ask about my appointment and was told my provider was running late. Ten minutes later, I asked again, and that's when the manager got into the picture. Why was no one attending to a client who was waiting that long? Long story short, they messed up big and I got no body work service at all, after being offered a massage instead of a body wrap by the manager, which I gladly would have taken. But all practitioners were booked up so there was no one to provide me with anything. I was offered a gift certificate, at which point I was so upset I told her, "Why would I want to come back here?" I gathered my wits and accepted the gift card, which with my first card, was enough to pay for my pedicure and husband's massage and provider's tips. So instead of a special day, I got stressed out and with no body wrap/relaxation. I wouldn't have gone on Yelp to say just this, but since I'm here, I will also say the decor is dated and the facilities are the same. It's not an appealing place to be if you are not a west suburban retirement-age person. Have no intention of ever stepping foot in there again. read more

We just made a quick stop off of the Lake Minnetonka LRT. Great spot for a snack and drink--probably a little on the pricey side. Maybe they would have refilled my iced tea (which had LOTS of ice) but they didn't offer, so I didn't ask. I would say the place could use a little updating in the dining area, but the view sitting on the back deck is amazing, so we will go back to try the dinner and music sometime. read more

We stayed at the Marsh for our first weekend away from our son since he was born 14 months ago, as well as to celebrate a birthday. The Marsh was a very calming and relaxing experience. We left feeling rejuvenated and happy. We look forward to coming back. During our stay, two minor things occurred beyond the control of the staff. One was there was an on-going noise outside our window in the parking lot around mid-night as well as a key breakfast staff member not showing up in the morning. In both instances the Marsh staff went out of their way to ensure the issues were resolved. The noise at midnight was immediately fixed. And the breakfast was resolved because Sharon, as well as a long-time Marsh member, going out of their way to ensure we got the breakfast and coffee right before our yoga session. Sharon also ensured that even after the scheduled breakfast ended, we still received our much-desired cappuccinos. All businesses have challenges that go beyond their control; some may not have mechanisms in place to effectively overcome such challenges to ensure the guests are left happy. The Marsh knew how to overcome multiple challenges in an empathic way resulting in a very pleasant experience. Look forward to doing another retreat there in the future. read more

I went to the Marsh for the first time this past week, and it was a huge disappointment. I had heard many wonderful things about it, so I was excited to have a relaxing day at a spa. I started with a massage. The masseuse was good, but not very friendly. The room was too bright (the sun came in through the window) and too cold (after my massage I looked at the thermostat...65 degrees!). To top it off, the massage was more expensive than some nicer spas I've been to. The patrons there were extremely friendly and willing to offer advice. I tried some of their suggestions for The Marsh's other facilities, but I felt that the rest of the place was a similar experience to the massage...the pools, hot tubs, sauna, etc. were mediocre at best. The atmosphere and the furniture reminded me of a nursing home. The massage bed and "relaxation room" were uncomfortable, and the overall experience was...to put it bluntly, not relaxing. In my opinion The Marsh was overrated and overpriced. read more

If you want a unique lodging experience, this is the place! We were invited to a wedding in Minnetonka and wanted a quiet, intimate, self-absorbed weekend where we could spoil ourselves in the celebratory moment of matrimony. The Marsh has only 6 guest rooms so you won't have a lot of people spending the night. This means it's quiet and intimate with various rooms to meditate or find solitude. The windows overlook a wispy marsh that has a large wooden deck. There is walking trail through the marsh but I took to the neighborhoods for my run and got in 6 miles with views of beautiful homes the entire way. There's a spa on location and an awesome work-out facility with a variety of fitness classes. The cafe is a-mazing. It has the best tasting gluten-free everything (the blueberry muffin - OMG) and they have fresh vegetables and dishes. I would come back here in a heartbeat. read more

Love The Marsh! The exercise rooms are well equipped and best of all, not crowded. The therapy pool is a great way to relax after a work out. The locker rooms are well appointed and clean. The minute you step through the door there is an ambience of quiet energy. The restaurant is open to the public as well as the gift shop. The Marsh has a quiet atmosphere geared for the mature adult. There are no kids except in the daycare or swim lessons. I love the therapy pool. It is quiet, warm, and the water yoga classes are wonderful. The locker room is large enough to always have a private shower, blow dryer, and dressing area. The eucalyptus steam room, sauna, and whirlpool in the locker room are very relaxing. It seems geared for yoga-type classes, therapy classes, and mainly 50+ year olds, although there are younger clients that enjoy the exercise equipment. This is not a "Lifetime" type atmosphere. The cafe is a little on the expensive side. I like to grab a protein smoothie after a workout. You could spend an entire day here with the spa, gift shop, acupuncture, two pools, restaurant, walking track indoors and outdoors, and meditation room. They even have a couple guest rooms to make a long weekend of it. read more

I wanted to love this place due to it's location and unique mission. But because it's mostly senior citizens who go there they seem to discriminate against younger people. The decor is very dated and run down. The locker rooms are old. The food is good but very expensive! and The groundskeeper seems to scare away anyone who looks at him! Apparently the only people who work there are LONG time employees of the founder, Ruth, whom I have heard is not very welcoming. The staff is rude I felt I was treated like I was 2nd class citizen because I'm under the age of 50. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because the spa staff is VERY good. They seem to hire wonderful massage therapists. They do have a kids room for those with young children but that is inconsistent and seems to lack security and safety measures. It's also very expensive to join. I wonder how they will get new people to join when their aging demographic is no longer able to go there. read more
