My husband and I stayed at the Hewing Hotel for two nights while in town for a graduation ceremony. The location is perfect! Right in the heart of the North Loop, within walking distance of many cafes, lunch spots, the river, and more. We brought our 10 pound dog with us and across from the hotel is a large grass area for him to use the bathroom. The hotel is also VERY dog friendly and they put his name on the VIP board by a welcoming bowl of dog treats. The staff is amazing and I loved that I could text with questions or requests. They're very responsive, friendly, and helpful. The check-in process was quick and easy as well. When we arrived in our room, I had requested bottles of Aqua Panna, duck fat chocolate chip cookies, and the Oregon Pinot Noir. All items were ready in the room and we finished the bottle of wine, it was great, and the cookies were amazing with a great texture! Somewhere between chewy and crispy. Our room is very cool, like a Chicago loft with brick walls and a city view. The bathroom is very nice as well, I love the soaps and shampoo/conditioner they have. We had dinner at Tullibee twice and it was incredible! Wonderful service and outstanding food. We opted for the 6-course chefs choice and if I could give more than 5-stars, I would! read more

This is the super rich & wealthy bar in the North Loop. This place has the best rooftop bar in all of The North Loop. You'll get the best view of downtown Mpls from here. You have to ask the guys at the podium to the left of the elevators to buzz you up to the roof. It's just a quick walk from my condo. The best hotel bar in the area if Hotel Bars are your thing. Super wealthy young guys are always at the bar. You'll see super expensive cars parked right out front that are valet. I've never really seen anyone older than 40 at the bar... it's the North Loop after all lol, the avg age I think is 32 or something for the North Loop. read more

We had a fantastic night at the Hewing. From check in to check out, all of the staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful. Our room was beautiful and clean, the bed was super comfy, especially the pillows and comforter. I was surprised that the TV wasn't connected to the internet (no streaming services), but had local cable. It certainly wasn't a dealbreaker and we binge-watched Real Housewives of Atlanta all night, but access to streaming would have been a plus. We stayed here for a night for our anniversary. Cool old building and ambience. Pricy! Used the sauna and rooftop pool. It was cool to have wait staff bring us drinks to the pool. Make sure you lock your locker up right. I didn't and my robe and room key disappeared. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel but had dessert in the lobby/bar area. Their Hugo Spritz is a little too sweet for my taste but we enjoyed the strawberry rhubarb compote and chocolate desserts. Beds were super comfy and loved the noon checkout time. Also loved that they arranged a couple's massage through a third party (Body of the Earth) and the masseuses were amazing! Parking overnight using valet is about $60 but was convenient. read more

I've been to the hewing a few times for drinks and only one other time for food. Not sure how I don't have more pictures. Things to know before you go. This is downtown so expect to street park but they also have valet. This is located in the hewing hotel, so it's often busy especially on nights and weekends. Inside is beautiful and there is a decent amount of seating in the bar area. The cocktail and food menu has a little something for everyone and the prices are what I would consider slightly higher than average, however the food is made well and with the few extra dollars. They do make a few unique twist on some of the menu items so just pay attention and you'll be fine. I always like to see something unique. I had the Hewing Burger and it was so tasty. I usually prefer a little more pink but this was still nice and moist throughout with good flavor. Their staff is well versed in their menu and I will say that they handle even difficult customers well. I do think it's worth a stop if you're in the area read more

First time checking out the Hewing brunch (noticed I've never reviewed HH/dinner here) In which case I honestly didn't even know and slipped in just before it ended at 2. Service matched all my other experiences which was great. Server was extremely attentive checking in at all the right times. I did the house old fashioned (I said it was a late brunch, don't judge) which is always a solid choice. They feature a private barrel knob creek rye. I snagged their breakfast Sammie with bacon, sunny side up egg, cry baby Craig's aioli maple jam, and the most delicious brioche bun. There was a lot of fried bits and salami and not a lot of cheese. The fries were really good, the seasoning spot on and the dill aioli was delicious. The drink I got was disappointing. The honey badger sounded right up my alley but it ended up being very sweet, almost a syrupy kind of sweetness. I wasn't able to finish it. My husband ordered the old fashioned and said it was good so I'll have to stick to that next time. Gorgeous boutique hotel, we aren't staying here so to preface this review we are staying at the Canopy down the street but.... We came here last night for some drinks and to hangout because when we drove by we saw people flooding inside! Walking in is super fun and lively, people dressed up but also totally okay to show up casual - we ended up going upstairs and got two espresso Martini's for $40!!! Kind of crazy especially considering they are just average bar level Martinis. This is my 4th time staying at the hotel, and I'm always in love with the decor, and the ambiance. The bar is always happening at night and the place is usually packed. The rooms are always meticulously clean, and the place has a very industrial feel to it. Probably converted an d warehouse. Think of the Kimpton hotels, but in a grander scale. I want so badly to give this hotel 5 stars but as an honest reviewer I simply cannot. Here are the reasons for minus 1 star: 1) our AC went out in the middle of our last night here and switched to HEAT. We woke up drenched in sweat and the room was at 86 degrees. They offered another room or some fans as the maintenance team wasn't on site at 3am. The fans helped and they applied a fair discount on that night's stay. 2) the rooftop pool: not every lounge chair has a padded cushion and the button to turn on the jets is broken, it works sometimes but not all the time. I did witness severely intoxicated adults pulling it like they were playing tug-of-war and then throwing their whole body into it though, so... Literally everything else about our stay was excellent. The staff are just great. Especially JJ who helped me track down my AirPods that I left in my robe pocket up at the pool. Unfortunately they were already laundered by the time we figured it out but his follow through and efforts to locate them were top notch. The location is ideal for visitors-- so much is within walking distance. We loved coming up every night to the pool and just talking with our feet in the water. read more

My date and I enjoyed the Hewing Old Fashioned and Manhattan cocktails at a high top in the bar. The cherry vanilla bitters in the Manhattan is quite strong, but loved the piloncillo in the Old Fashioned! The logo subtly etched into the specialty cylinder ice cubes was a nice added touch. This is a great hotel! It is a great spot to explore the North Loop. We were able to walk to our desired dinner location, bars, and acme comedy company. The rooftop bar is a fun feature with picture worthy views. The large hot tub was a nice element as well. It was nice that the rooftop included a guest only section as the main rooftop area was super busy on Friday. The restaurant and bar downstairs had nice drinks. I liked the NA Hewing Tonic- it tasted so fresh! The brunch the following day was nice- comfortable with food service. The Eggs Benedict was very good, but rich, so by the end I was ready for something else. We stayed at the Hewing for one night recently while we were in Minneapolis for the first time. Our friends recommended it to us because it was a place they really enjoyed going to, primarily for the great rooftop space. When we arrived to check in on Sunday afternoon, we immediately saw a sign letting us know the rooftop bar would be closed that day/night. Bummer. The bar in the lobby of the hotel was closed too but we were told it would open later that evening. At check-in, we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who offered us some bottles of water. That was a nice touch and saved us from trying to buy some nearby. The room was clean and big enough for the 2 of us, though definitely not spacious by any means. It was really cool looking and we enjoyed it. The shower was large and the bed was comfy. Definitely a great night's rest! I did hear a lot of door slamming in the morning, but not a peep during the night. We walked nearby for dinner after checking in and came back to have a drink at the Hewing lobby bar. It was just short of 10pm and they let us know they had already done last call, but they'd make us one. That was a letdown because their website advertises it is open until 12am on Sundays. A few other groups arrived a few minutes after us and were turned away. They were also disappointed. I know these places can close early if it's slow, but it would be nice if their website reflected that with a non-specific closing time. We did go up to the roof to sit in the hot tub for a bit. It was pretty crowded and the water was just lukewarm. Huge bummer. It didn't feel warm enough to even feel relaxing and we left after just a few minutes. Our room was more relaxing than room temp water. Not the hotel's fault - but I did leave my retainers behind on the bathroom counter. Made it 18 years with those things and never lost them. I called the hotel the next day and housekeeping must have just tossed them rather than turn in. Again, my fault for leaving them - but it would be nice if they'd turn in those personal belongings. Overall - it was a good experience with incredibly friendly people. It'd be 5 stars if their bar was open at the advertised times and the hot tub was actually hot! read more

We did a staycation at the hewing as we live right down the street and have heard amazing things. Came on a Thursday evening (check in at 3) and left Friday (check out at 12). We fully embraced this place and I hope anyone does when they stay here. The vibes are so relaxing, cozy, woodsy, and for a staycation we totally felt like we were away from our own city and fully indulged. The king city view room was the perfectly decorated and when you walk in the room it smells like a manly, woodsy inviting smell. All the products in the room are scented to go along with it and give off a relaxing feel. The bed was phenomenal, one of those mattresses that you sink in and feel like you never want to leave. Two types of pillows on each side of the bed to choose from - always appreciated! We used the sauna the hot tub and again, on a cold night being able to look over the city with a glass of wine is something that's hard to explain. Feeling away from our own city, relaxing and pampering ourselves. The drinks in the downstairs bar are a little overpriced but the lobby and bar area are such a good vibe and the entire staff is friendly and accommodating. We also used the gym downstairs the next morning and it had everything one needed to get a good workout in. They also offer yoga classes on certain evenings which is a great amenity to guests. Highly recommend the hewing. Feeling so relaxed after our stay - it's hard to describe to others! We will be encouraging everyone to stay here when they want to splurge and enjoy this boutique hotel. read more

Our bartender explained all the recommend drinks and referred us to some best sellers that are unique to find elsewhere. We loved the drinks as they were both tasty and beautiful. If you look in the pictures the old fashion has the hotel logo pressed into it and the highball drink spelled "hewing" out of ice. I always love it here so much. It's dark and romantic and just really brings the best vibes to date night. I got champagne and a glass of red wine and both were fabulous. My husband got a shot of whiskey and said it was great. He really likes their whiskey selection so that's always a plus. We didn't get any appetizers but those around us got oysters which looked fabulous as well as the cheese and meat board. The hewing has valet which is super nice but it's also very Uber-able too.
