Downtown Oswego is full of mom and pop shops, and The Marmalade Tree is one of the best. This eclectic gift shop has all of your holiday needs, great jewelry, awesome fashion accessories, and beautiful home decor. One of my favorite things about The Marmalade Tree is the wonderful purses they sell. These bags are not only fashionable and trendy, they are SO AFFORDABLE. During my last visit to the store, I brought in a necklace that I bought there over the Christmas holidays that I had never worn because it had become a tangled mess. The sales associate not only let me exchange it with no receipt, she took my word on the original cost. It is so hard to find a neighborhood store that still believes in the honor system....REFRESHING! That same sales associate let me know that some of the gorgeous jewelry at The Marmalade Tree was made locally and even by their own sales clerks! The Grand Re Opening wasnt grand. Grateful that the owner was very friendly. Her workers were "stone faced" . When i was one of the first walking in (new owner wasnt there yet or in the back) Her workers didnt acknowledge ANYONE coming in the door. No real sale items, thought there would be some on this one day. Perhaps soon. Saw many looking at price tags- then walking out. Glad the store still exists! However I felt out of place since I was not one of the teacher crowd. Hoping they will get more purses or have a Moms day sale on them. read more

This shop is darling. Just the type of shop you would expect to find in a quaint little town like Oswego, IL. The service was great (so friendly). There are sweet items for your home or garden, accessories galore, great gifts for gal pals, sisters, moms, grandmas. It would be tough to get out of there withOUT a purchase. This is a great 'window-shop' for me. I have been here multiple times but have never actually purchased anything. They have a lot of purses, jewelry, home decor and even rainboots! (which I love!!) And yet, I always leave filling like, for the price, there wasn't something that just bowled me over. I have had a pleasant encounter with one lady working there and then another time, felt invisible as I moved around the shop and wasn't even acknowledged. I suppose it would be fun to stop in if you are downtown, but I am not planning another trip there any time soon. read more

This is a cute, cozy, downtown shop, but what really stands out in my mind is the reasonable prices. It has purses, scarves, jewelry, knick-knacks and tchotchkes - and I was almost always pleasantly surprised at the low prices. No sticker-shock, compared to similar shops. I love the Marmalade Tree. The pricing is always right for my budget. It's the perfect place for gifts, home decor and special surprises for myself. The shop owner and clerks have always been helpful, and go out of their way to check inventory in the back or call me when something I'm looking for comes in. This time of year is probably one of the best times to stop in, because their store will be overflowing with holiday surprises. Ornaments, affordable jewelry, scarves, gloves, hair accessories - purses. It's a wonderland of fun, but pace yourself. Though the store is compact, there are treasures piled high and tucked away in every corner. Stop off at the Village Grind up the block before going in, and take your time exploring the shop. This is a nice little shop and I like to support local businesses. But when I went to buy gift cards for some family members, the shop informed me that they do not sell gift cards or even gift certificates. It is difficult to support local businesses that are unwilling to adopt technology that is decades old like a gift card. read more

I would give 1 star but actually like the store. I go with friends and my sister if we are in Oswego. Very disappointed on finding out I was overcharged days later after reviewing my receipt. On December 29 I visited the store for thr 50% off Christmas. I found 3 things and took them to the counter. The woman who waited on me rang up 2 of the items at 50% off and the other had the regular price and then a 50 cent charge which should have been 50% off. I went back today Tuesday after seeing the receipt in my bag over the weekend. She didn't hand me the receipt, she just put it in the bag. I failed at asking for it and questioning the charge. I am usually good with what I owe and thought it was too high. When I came in she admitted she did that several times. Okay, admit it and make sure you are charging correctly! Also beware, they will not give you money back or even put the credit on the charge card. THEIR MISTAKE! So I had to buy another item or get credit for the amount to be applied to it. I was over by a little over a dollar. Didn't have the change so I took my charge card out. OMG, the minimum charge is $10. Guess what! I had to purchase another item. Is this a scam or what!!!!! Their mistake! Now I changed my review to 1 star as I am getting more upset writing this. This is not the owner but a clerk! She says "hope this doesn't effect your business with us". Never again will I step in this store. I have bought little Christmas trees, stuffed animals, Christmas and scarves. Friends also have bought many things. I will certainly tell them and already told a friend who backs me on not visiting anymore. If I was that Clerk I would have talked with the owner since it was her fault! Just beware if you have to purchase something especially if there is a sale. They don't refund and they don't except a credit card charge under $10. Give me a break! Scammers! Adding this little tidbit: I am a big supporter of small business and artist who make handmade items. I will not support those who don't try to rectify their mistakes. For the small difference I would have out of the goodness of my heart would have paid the difference since I caused the error. There are wonderful shops out there, please don't let this shop reflect that of others. read more

My daughter and I visited the store for a preview of Christmas decorations. You can find unique things here and the prices are reasonable. We left with a couple of very cute wreaths and ornaments and a few unexpected gifts for Christmas for family. The clerk is very nice, no following you in the store bugging you, we didn't need to be acknowledged, we felt completely on our own. Nice store to find those unsual items, for home or gifts! read more
