I've used "The Maids" twice now to do a "spring cleaning" on my condo, and my experience between the first and second times, could not have been more different. I first contracted "The Maids" service in 2023. It was not my first time using a cleaning service, but I knew nothing about them. If I remember correctly, I'd seen a van with their logo, and thought that I'd one day give them a try. Well, that first time was absolutely spectacular. They arrived early, and literally cleaned my condo from top to bottom. I mean, the place was sparkling! I was so impressed with the job they'd done, I called them afterward to add a generous tip to the fee they'd charged. I was pleased, and recommended them to friends every chance I got. For the last two years, I'd used another service, simply because they were friends of one of my neighbors, and she'd asked me to support them. This year, they were booked solid for weeks, so I gladly called "The Maids" again. Well, in the two years since I'd first used them, their fee had gone up dramatically, but that wasn't an issue, as, given my previous experience, I believed it would be worth it. So. I made the appointment, and as promised they texted me the day before, to let me know the window of time in which they'd be arriving. However, on said day, I got a call from one of the cleaners telling me that they were running behind and would be a few minutes late. That actually turned out to be a half an hour later than the scheduled time, but, since I'd allotted several hours for them to complete their work, that was not an issue. When they arrived, they got to work immediately, and I got out of their way. I have a two bedroom, two bath unit, so I wrangled my two cats into the second bedroom, and told them to let me know when they were finished with the rest of the unit, and I'd move the cats to the other room. After about an hour and fifteen minutes or so, they knocked to let me know that they were ready to clean the second bedroom, so I moved the cats, and let them get to work. Strangely, only a few minutes passed before they informed me that they were done. I quickly did a superficial inspection (my mistake), since I thought I already knew what the quality of their cleaning would be. They let me know what the final charge would be, and they left. And then I started to really inspect the job they did. The place was mostly clean, but it was nowhere near the brilliant job the previous team who'd cleaned my unit two years prior. But that wasn't the real problem. I have glass shower doors on the bathtub in my second bathroom, and when I took a good look at them, there was soap and hard water residue all along the bottom of both doors. It was apparent that the young woman who cleaned those doors, couldn't be bothered to bend down to clean the bottom of the glass. The rest of the surfaces in the bathroom looked as if the bare minimum effort had been given to cleaning them. I took note of that, and went into the second bedroom. And it didn't look like they'd done much at all. They'd vacuumed. I know that because I heard it running. But there was dust everywhere. Clearly (in their haste to leave?), they'd simply quickly wiped off the most visible surfaces, and made no effort to clean any further. I have a desk with computer equipment on it and a bookshelf/ display case (among other things) in that room, and the previous crew, had cleaned everything. It was spotless. The results this time couldn't compare. You wouldn't have believed that the same company did this job. I'm not exaggerating when I say that, on my worst day, I would have done a more thorough job. And seeing the results I got, for the money I paid, I probably should have. The charitable interpretation is that they were already running behind in their schedule because of their earlier delay, so I got the short shrift. The other interpretation is that they either didn't care to make a good effort, or just aren't good at their jobs. Suffice it to say, I will not be using "The Maids" again. read more

I received several quotes for this "re-clean" of a Move Out cleaning by cleaners that my tenants hired. Its so difficult to find reliable and thorough cleaners- but the cleaners that the tenants hired (found on Yelp) left the unit as of they didnt clean at all- see "Before photos". I'm so glad to have found Dan and his crew. They were prompt, great communicators, and they got our apartment actually clean, and was mindful of the time they took to get everything cleaned and done right. I apppreciate them so much. They service properties from Alewa to Hawaii Kai only. Wish I could have Dan & his crew for my other properties, but since I can't- I'd rather not keep them a secret and share them with everyone looking for a good cleaner! read more

My MIL was having guests staying over at her house. Three Maids came and did great work cleaning a bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen. We asked them to also clean the jalousie windows and some plantation shutters. They finished the work in 2 hours. Owner even gave us a discount since he and we wanted to schedule our cleaning on a day when he wanted to fill in some "pukas" in the schedule. read more

Their response is the classic yelp excuse we reviewed our records and we did not have customer by your name and you must be talking about someone else. I needed to book a Move out cleaning service & I was recommended this company by a friend. First impression, the guy on the phone was okay. He was quick to respond to my questions. I was able to book a date rather quickly. I ended up moving out of my apartment sooner, so called again and he was able to change my cleaning date to accommodate me, which was nice. Second time speaking to him, he seemed a lot friendlier. I booked for 2-3 o'clock. The maids arrived maybe around 3:30pm. I was waiting around but no big deal.. They were nice and did a great job with cleaning. Very reasonable price as well. They charged a reasonable amount as well. read more

The manager called after he read my review. He was deeply concerned that my review was so critical. He mentioned a few times in our call that I should have called to voice my displeasure. As I mentioned in the review, this was my first experience with any cleaning service so I didn't know what to expect. Hard to complain when I don't have experience from these types of businesses. He did mention that reservation didn't have any notes, but I did tell him I specifically mentioned to the operator that took the reservation it was a 'move in' cleaning and it needed a lot of detail cleaning. He offered a refund but I did mention that I saw that the women there were working really hard. I know the bathrooms were cleaned and most things were wiped down. So I compromised and just asked for 50%. He did seem sincere when he called and did apologize for the poor performance. read more

We are so impressed with The Maids of Honolulu! We have them to thank for a huge clean-up project for a home that is being listed on the market very soon. The Maids team of four did a fantastic job in scrubbing, cleaning, and shining all parts of the home interior until it sparkled! This was no easy task given it was a well-loved home of my parents. Their team scrubbed and cleaned the hardwood floors so beautifully! The areas where there is linoleum tile they steam-cleaned to make them as good as new. The team leader, Merlihse, and two girls Clara and Di worked quietly and efficiently 4. THOROUGH job of cleaning kitchen in all kinds of nooks and crannies 6. GREAT job in bathrooms removing stains in tubs , limu in door tracks, scum on soap dishes and water stains 7. Very nice women, but I ordered a deep cleaning and felt that the work was just normal cleaning. They didn't have to clean the stove, oven, or dishwasher so I hoped that the bathroom would be super clean. Bathroom floor still had residue that could be easily taken off and the sink and bathroom had mildew stains that can be easily bleached away. Below see the dirty floor and how it should have looked. The Maids have helped me regain my sanity. Three children, 12 hour work shifts, & maintaining a clean home is a tough act for my husband and I to balance. Thanks to The Maids; I have more quality time to spend with my family & less to stress over. A cleaning service is quite a luxury. I'm a little embarrassed to say "the maids maintain my home" as family and friends give me looks of $$. But I'd take a clean home over any full day at the spa. Fairly equivalent in price but provides me a better sense of relaxation. I've tried many different cleaning services in the past but I have finally opted for a monthly service with The Maids. It's been 8months of cleaning services and I have to say they truly are the best. Tip: remember that each home is different and each person/family has different expectations. If you are meticulous about your personal space make sure to let them know because they are not mind readers.
