Tic Tac Toe on the table
Gaby S.

We stopped in on a Friday in May after taking the ferry over from Seattle. There weren't many breakfast places on the map, so we chose this place to go to. It had a very classic diner vibe, and it wasn't super busy when we went. We had to wait outside for a server to come and seat us, but it was only around 5-10 minutes. Once we sat down we were given menus and there was a tic tac toe game on the table so that was super cute. However, I had looked up the menu online before going in and was devastated to find that it wasn't the same menu as the online version. The waitress said that they changed their online menu a while ago, but the menu I had was directly linked from their google search, so it was a bit disappointing. The food was still really good and the service was super kind and friendly, but you could tell they were prioritizing the regulars, which is to be expected in a sense, but she forgot to come by a couple times with things that we asked for, including the waters we had to ask for three times. Overall, it's such a cute little place, especially since there aren't many options for breakfast on the island, but the ambiance is the best part.

Food was delicious and service was welcoming. There was no seating inside to fit our party of 8 so we sat outside. They put tables together for us quickly, the only downside we were missing the things usually on tables - salt&pepper, sugar, flavored creamers and had to ask for each thing. The food came fairly quickly and was tasty. Overally good visit and we would visit again!

Griddle Combo in back and Classic Benny up front.

My wife and I went here for breakfast so I could fulfill my nostalgia thing. The diner was constructed the year I was born...1948...and it operated for years in Willow Grove, PA just north of Philly. I grew up about 20 miles away in Gloucester County, South Jersey. Years ago now, a Bainbridge man bought the diner, had it deconstructed, shipped across country, and reconstructed in its current site. I miss the old diners I used to eat at back east, so I had to check out one that came from so close to my childhood home. It was cool to see and eat at, but that's about it. I believe it has different owners now. The servers who took care of us were friendly, considerate, respectful and attentive. The food was pretty blah...and quite pricey. My wife had their Griddle Combo ($18.25); a waffle, two eggs, and two sausage patties. Not much you can screw up with that! I had the Classic Benny ($18.25); eggs Benedict with two poached eggs on super thin tasteless pieces of ham on two tough, chewy English muffin halves and covered with equally tasteless Hollandaise sauce. My Hollandaise is way better and even the packaged grocery store McCormick's Hollandaise would have been a super improvement. I tasted NO butter and NO lemon in the diner's sauce. Came with dry hashbrowns. Coffee is $4 a cup with refills. What in creation happened to the price of restaurant coffee??? Our total bill with tip was about $60...for breakfast...yikes!!

The breakfast burrito was good! I liked the chorizo in it. The waitress was patient with our large group and was attentive. We came early on a weekend and it wasnt too busy

Old school diner on Bainbridge Island serving old school diner food. The folks that work here are upbeat, chatting with their customers even though it was minutes before close. When an errant order occurred, it didn't hit the trash but was gifted to a customer who still looked hungry. Great place for a quick meal and a good time.

My wife and I stopped into Madison on a Monday morning for breakfast before catching the ferry to return home. Free parking can be found in the small parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. GPay is also available. The diner itself is an old refurbished dining car which made our breakfast that much more fun. Seating can be found at the counter, outside and inside at booths. The grill area is visible to all. We arrived at opening and had no problem getting seated right away. As we were leaving, there were no open tables left. I imagine that Madison experiences wait times for seating. Breakfast is served all day long for those who enjoy sleeping in. Local canned craft beer, hard cider and wines are available to sip on while dining. During our visit, my wife sipped on bottomless coffee with cream and sugar for $3.50. I had water. We shared the Heuvos Rancheros for $16 + $2 up-charge for avocado: Two crispy corn tortillas, salsa Verde, and two eggs topped with sour cream and scallions. Served with black beans. I am constantly on the hunt for exceptional Heuvos Rancheros and Madison did not disappoint. Our breakfast was plated beautifully and was savory, filling and delicious. Service was friendly and perhaps a bit understaffed which may lead to long wait times.

Belgium waffle with Mascarpone & Blueberries!

What a gem! It's the cutest little diner, and has good food to boot! Belgium waffle and Dungeness crab omelette-- what's not to like? During a recent trip to Bainbridge, a friend & I decided this was one of the meals of the trip. Isabel was our server-- friendly and attentive. They also have cute mugs for sale...

Inside diner, too cute with oldies playing!

If you're on Bainbridge Island, I highly recommend this diner for breakfast! The food, service and atmosphere were amazing! I'm so glad we picked this spot for breakfast before we headed to airport and back home to Houston.

One of our island favorites. Ate here twice while visiting and will absolutely be back next time we are in Bainbridge!

What an awesome place! Well worth the walk from the boat. Great local restaurant in a beautiful neighborhood. This is such a classic looking diner. The decor was very retro and cute. Red leather seats and bar stools. There is even a payphone on the wall near the restrooms. The food and the service could not have been better. Incredibly friendly waitress (Francisca) and very delicious omelets. The homemade biscuit was so good! Highly recommended.

Who can resist a small diner - still retro playing oldies. The charm brings you in very laid back with limited seating. Perfect size for a party of 2-4 people. Limited menu which does not bother me. Breakfast served all day. Quick service always refilling coffee, food hot. We chose breakfast the prices were extremely high $17 and up. I would say that the cost per plate and the portions were the only complaint. Food was delish.

Waffle with blueberries and whipped cream

The best waffle I have had in my life, hands down. I wish we didn't live a ferry ride away. Aside from the amazing food, the staff went above and beyond with genuine kindness to make our visit happy. I loved the ambiance of the old dining car and the diner was playing all the great hits of the 50's and 60's which made it so fun to be there.

Blackbird Bakery - Apple and caramel monkey bread (June 2024)

Over the past couple of years, I've had all manner of cakes, pastries and pies from Blackbird. They're expensive, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" definitely applies to Blackbird. You may pay more than you might somewhere else, but their quality is exceptional. Today I stopped by for one of their quiches--their spinach and goat cheese--and a lemon blueberry scone. Both were super yummy. I often get one of their chais too, which are also quite tasty (and not at all dry, a common problem with scones). Having Blackbird downtown makes it quite convenient to just stop by while on the way to elsewhere. But sometimes it can be a destination if...you can find seating, which is at a premium most of the day.

After being a BI resident and then moving away I was so excited to make time to stop by Blackbird…read more I had told several friends on the island that I was looking forward to stopping by the bakery and I was surprised to find they had lost their love for it. I figured it was due to taking it for granted... ...I was mistaken. Day one of our trip we ordered several items and none of them were very good at all. We ended up giving items away and thought maybe the bakery was just having an off day. The staff seemed bothered by having to take our order but hey- we all have tough days! Well...day two of our trip we decide to prioritize stopping by again. After a local saw us waiting 30 minutes for our toast and jam she told us to go ask and that "sometimes the staff can get really overwhelmed ". So my daughter stood in line a second time and was told that the employee heard we wanted it to go so it had been sitting at the end of the counter the whole time. We specified we wanted to eat it inside. We asked kindly if they could fix the mistake and we were happy to wait. To my genuine surprise the employee with the pink hair opened the bag of toast, plopped our three orders on trays along with the plastic to go tiny jams and dropped them on our table with the most dismissive uncaring attitude I've seen. You could get more care at a convenient store. We thought we'd try to eat them anyway and the pieces were cold and hard. I asked her about them and her response was "well you asked for to go". Not only does she seem incapable of doing her job basics but as an employer I'm shocked she is granted the simple tasks of serving toast in the first place. She made sure to put plenty of energy into gossiping with her co worker about her irritation with us. We have strong ties on the island still and come back often but we will gladly skip the visit here in the future. I certainly hope these staff members get some basic skills in customer service for their own future.

Everything we ordered was packed with flavor and well executed in this fusion restaurant. The spicy truffle wontons with grilled shrimp were a standout! They were super aromatic with the truffle flavor coming through, and the shrimp added a nice extra layer of texture and richness. The wontons were not quite spicy, however. We also tried thier chili prawn noodles, which had egg noodles and was just as good. The tempura shrimp was also crunchy and added to the great mix of textures. We also had the rockfish, which was in a nice creamy sauce and cooked nicely, complementing the rest of the meal well.

Among a few other spots, Ba Sa was on our hit list to check out, so we came by for lunch. Its a nice looking modern Vietnamese restaurant with a fusion-y spin on Viet food. We didn't know what to order so we looked at a bunch of photos to see what looked good. We started off with the Chicken Buns. It was really good karage chicken bao buns, very flavorful, nicely prepared and the mayo was tasty! We really enjoyed this to start off our meal. As for our entrees, we got: Bun Cha Hanoi: Good amount of meats, I really liked this, comes with 2 pork patties, 2 grilled pork skewers, an egg roll, noodles to dip in the nuoc cham sauce with lettuce to make some wraps. I went to town on this! Sautee Beef Vermicelli: I got some bites to this dish as well, beef was plenty, quite flavorful stir fried beef, good marinade on the beef, comes with vermicelli noodles with some assorted veggies and crispy bits on top. A good non soup beef noodle dish! We came at a good time, we got seated pretty quickly, friendly staff, it is on the pricier side but we enjoyed the food a lot. The place got busier when we were leaving. Worth coming by to check out if you in the neighborhood!
