Let me first say that I'm a guy, so I was just looking for a basic haircut for curly hair that my wife would approve of. I prefer to go to a hair salon because otherwise it seems everyone wants to give you a buzz cut. Being new to the area, I found Linda's salon on Yelp. Basic points about the salon: 1. It's big and well-established - They seem equipped to do a huge range of things for women, above and beyond the other places. They also were much cleaner, spiffier, and were twice the size of any other place I passed by. The salon's also been used for women on some of the makeover TV shows. 2. Great, helpful staff - Really friendly, and I liked them a lot. They gave me a lot of pointers about the area, which I really appreciated. 3. Fluent English speakers - I know it's the Bronx, but three places I'd visited nearby struggled to answer me when asking "can you give me a haircut?". Seemed like decent salons, but made me worried about how I'd further convey the "no buzz cut" concept :) 4. Surprisingly good price - $15 for a haircut. 5. Good haircut - My wife approved and liked it. They didn't scalp me or get scissor-happy or anything, I thought it was a good haircut too. I'd recommend this place to women to try out - seems like the best salon place within three miles of here. I'd recommend it to men too. read more

This was the first time ever at The Look salon. Linda greeted me with a smile sat me and started her consultation. She told me what would and what won't work with my hair cause I came in with pictures. Which she loves by the way. So bring pictures when you go see her. So anyways she gave me the best hair cut ever. I told her I wanted change and change she gave me. Chopped it all off! But it complemented my face so much. She told me what products to buy and showed me how to curl my hair with the flat iron. Told me what not to do so my hair won't get damage again. I came here two years ago and I requested to be styled by linda, specifically a big chop, because I needed to start all over again with my hair. So when it was time to wash my hair, the gentleman that was washing my hair nervously called linda stating that my hair was soaking up all the products. From there I felt a little insecure abt letting him deal with my afro curly textured hair . But I told myself not all hair stylist are going to know how to deal with curly hair especially if its tight curls. So I brushed it off , at the end I was happy with my cut, just wish some of them were more educated on black textured hair, after all we are living in the Natural hair era! Was here a few yrs back, had a 10 am appointment which was a cut and color for a 4 pm wedding I was supposedly attending .Due to her lack of staff and 4 other clients she was attending to she didnt get to me til 11 am which wss fine but she was distracted answering phones washing hair, and with as much business she carries she does not even have a person to wash hair...finally at 3:30 she was finished needless to say I missed the wedding and was told 75 but in the end was charged 100 because she claimed my hair wss too long..You would be better off a few blocks down by the Fine Fare at The Nail Barn, if you choose to go there see Awilda she is the best..Bye Bye Linda read more

I began my transition from heat-damaged hair to natural curly hair about 7 months ago so I was in search of a stylist who could cut my hair once I had a nice length of new growth. I researched certified "Devacut" experts and other curly hair experts in the Bronx/Manhattan area but all were way above my price point. I came across The Look when researching "curly haircuts" and Linda popped up. I'm SO grateful for her! She was very honest from the beginning, letting me know that although she herself didn't have curly hair, she's always eager and willing to learn about curly hair types. We talked products and routines to try with curly hair. She did cut my hair wet, stating that she didn't feel comfortable cutting dry hair because she knew there'd be some "fly always", and she also said that although my hair would "bounce", cutting my hair evenly would be best because that way it would grow evenly. The Look is like a hidden gem nestled right in the Pelham Parkway section of the bronx. For years I have been getting my hair cut at a salon in Allerton avenue only to be greeted my stylist who don't arrive until 2 pm and don't speak english. Finally, on my birthday I ventured out to this new salon with great reviews that I found on yelp and Linda really Lived up to the reviews. She cut my hair and styled it perfectly and she cut my girlfriends hair who has been scared to make the change for so long. I came in with horrible hair and when I say horrible I mean horrible it was beyond damage. I came in knowing that although I had shoulder length hair I was going to come out with really short hair so I was a bit nervous. Linda had me going as soon as I got in the chair. She made my nerves fly out the door. She transformed my fried shoulder length hair into a wonderful pixie hair style. If I could give this place a minus star I would. I've been growing out my hair for almost 3 years. For my 30'th birthday I wanted a big change. I thought why the hell not, lets chop my hair off. I was too lazy to go to the city, and i read the reviews on here so I decided to give it ago. When I walked in everyone just starred at me. No one greeted me , I felt embarrassed. I FELT EMBARRASSED WHEN I WALKED INTO A BUSINESS. I should've ran away. I thought k... maybe its a slow day and i interrupted something. I had to announce I was there for a hair cut, when a sweet guy came up to me and said oh okay and looked puzzled. Apparently in a room filled with people the actual hair dresser there yet. He said he'd just take things in his hand and wash my hair. When I went to the washing station he was very nice and careful. The hairdresser Linda I think her name was came. With food in her mouth she took over, and asked me questions about my last dye job. (I do it myself and yeah maybe I missed a spot but I was going from dark brown to black no one can even tell ) but she made me feel embarrassed about it. On to the haircut. She did a bad job. She didn't ask me how I styled my hair, and when I did tell her she did a botched up job anyways. Telling me she cut it in layers because I had a lot of split ends. I straighten my hair a lot so yeah I know I have split ends but with the way she cut it it looks stupid straight. I have naturally curly hair but she did layers. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate it. I really honestly hate it. Not only did I had to go shorter to even it out I felt like it ruined my whole birthday. I was so annoyed with my hair I went home and did it again myself. She was nice I guess? she tried to sell me weight loss shakes, ate food while cutting my hair. and complained about her other patrons the entire time. I should've just gone to the city. I called before coming in to get a pricing for haircuts. Linda told me she doesn't tell the prices over the phone and asked me to come in anytime and that she will be in the salon until 6. I get to the store and was NOT greeted by her instead she asked me if I had an appointment. I told her u never asked me over the phone to make an appointment. She seemed very irritated and rude towards me. I left without getting my haircut. I will not spend my money on a place that shows disrespect to their potential customers. TL;DR: Linda ignored my requests, gave me the opposite cut of what I asked for, made excuses and lied about the cut, and left me with an unmanageable cut that will take years to properly grow out. I came to Linda because I couldn't afford to keep going to Devachan Salon, and they were just too snobby for my tastes. I had gone 9 months between haircuts, which Linda was appalled by. I told her I liked the length, and I just needed my long layers trimmed a bit on the ends. My shortest layers were below my shoulders, and I asked her to take about an inch off. I'm aware that my fine wavy hair curls best when it's kept short, around shoulder length, but I liked the waves I was getting from my longer hair, and told her this. Linda was very friendly as she was cutting my hair, and we chatted about the fact that I like wearing my hair up or down in a variety of styles. She praised me for having long hair and actually doing interesting things with it, instead of just wearing it in a ponytail. It should have been a warning sign that she talked repeatedly about my hair having volume. I told her I was okay with it pulling my curls out a bit- I really liked the length, and my hair grows very slowly. Growing out bangs has taken years in the past. It's really hard to tell what someone is doing to your hair while they're cutting it, or at least it is for me. I had to stop her once as I saw her measuring out pieces of hair by my chin to remind her I asked for nothing short. She assured me this was just a couple pieces by my face. This was a lie. When the cut was done and she started shaking it out, I was dismayed to see that from my face all the way to the crown of my head I had chin-length layers. This didn't even remotely resemble the cut I had before, which I asked her to just trim. Then, when she had to style it, she clearly had no idea how to style curly hair. She scrunched in a tiny amount of curling lotion and then blew it with a diffuser. I ended up looking like an 80s mom. My hair was pure fluff, no curl clumping at all, and she didn't seem to know what to do with it. I had to put it in a ponytail the second I walked out of the salon because I was embarrassed to be seen like this. When I expressed my displeasure with the cut, she made a lot of excuses. "It will look better when you style it yourself"- You're the hair stylist, isn't my hair supposed to look BETTER when I leave the salon? "When you told me you went 9 months between cuts I knew I had to cut it shorter than you asked so it wouldn't look bad when it grew out. My haircuts look best when they're growing out."- So you decided to completely ignore what I asked for. "I wanted your hair to have more volume"- I didn't ask for volume. "The short pieces are only around your face. I don't really cut layers, I just angle it down from your face."- This was a blatant lie, since the short pieces go all the way back to the crown of my head. I usually wear my hair in a low ponytail or bun for work. The layers have made this impossible- my only options are french braids or very high ponytails. I can't even tuck the shortest layers behind my ear. They hang in an unflattering clump in front of my ear and get in my eyes every time I move. I've never cried about a haircut before, but this one made me cry. It's not at all what I asked for, and it's going to take forever for me to grow out these horribly short layers. read more

I went to The Look after reading the positive reviews on Yelp and I must say this was probably the best experience I have ever had in a hair salon! I walked out so happy and I love the cut. After not cutting my hair for about 2 years I scheduled an appointment with Linda to cut layers into my hair. I showed her a few pictures of the cuts I liked and the cut she gave me was perfect! She had no problem cutting/blowdrying my curly hair (some salons I've been to have no idea how to work with curls) and she gave me a few tips for how to style my hair naturally. I also like that she respected the way I wear my hair and after the cut blowdryed it straight into the style I usual wear it. Linda is skilled and has knowledge of the hair trends. read more

I moved to the area a few months ago and have been looking for a reputable salon near home to help me tame my hair. I was in serious need of a cut after a bahamas vacation dried out most of my length. I found The Look on yelp and made an appt with Linda (the owner). Linda was fantastic. We chatted about random things and she convinced me to go from 'just a 1in trim' to a beautiful angle cut. We cut about 2in off (thankfully getting rid of a lot of the dried hair) .... and there are lovely long angles around my face now. My hair feels healthier and lighter. I recommended this salon to coworkers who live in the neighborhood. As for me, I will continue to come here for trims since my ultimate goal is to get my hair super long and healthy again and will update this review in a few months. Awesome job Linda! Third review for linda at The Look. So Linda has been cutting my hair for a couple of years now, and i swear shes the only one i will let cut my hair. However, this time around i needed my color to be fixed. Ive seen her do many color and highlights before, so i wasnt too concerned about her achieving the color i desired. So i pretty much had gold highlights on top of this brassy brownish base color, and i stuck with that for about 2 months before i decided to have linda fix it. She did a perfect job. She gave me a solid ash brown base color to fix the brassiness, and gave me gorgeous, bright blonde highlights! Theyre not too thin, not too thick, bold enough but not screaming, "hey, im streaky"! My hair is still healthy, and growing. She was very patient and assured me every step of the way that my hair was going to be ok. (I was concerened about damage lol). I went there twice... Everyone raved about Linda but she was both times so this review is about other stylists.... The first time I just did blow dryer which left my hair frizzy. I typically do the dryer first as it does less damage so I gave the benefit of the doubt. The second time, under the dryer instead of just blower, my hair again came out terrible (which serves me right for going again). the salon was cute, half of the space was for doing your hair and the other half was for nails and such. linda was very. very helpful to getting the right cut for me. i have thin hair and the final cut was awesome. it looked fuller than what it is. prior i wanted a shorter cut, but she disapproved and i gave her trust to doing my hair. considering she lives just 10 minutes from where i am, i am glad to say that i know someone to trust with my hair. i am VERY picky when it comes to my hair and linda knows what she is doing. thanks so much again linda! and not to mention the price was good too. i'd definitely recommend her. i felt welcomed and definitely plan to come back here again. read more

As a male that just recently moved to the neighborhood I was in need of a haircut I didn't want to get another buzz cut from one of the thousands of barbers in the neighborhood. After reading several of the reviews on the look I took a chance. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by the owner Linda who is cordial and very respectful. I went here for a new look around may. Linda was nice, said that she could give me the short bob I wanted. She was almost done. The hair was looking great then she started becoming distracted with phone calls she started having technical issues with the power cords for her hair dryer. Then she saw a client walk in that was that of one of her stylist that was not in for the day. There was some confusion with the client and the stylist there was a lot of back and forth on the phone. She became upset claiming the other stylist is unprofessional and there was another employee that opens that was also venting how she felt. My hair cut ended up getting messed up as she was finishing. She said it was my hair wasn't taking shape because I had a remolino. I had my hair shifting to one side. She's like I can fix it but I have to cut more. I said that's fine. I didn't mind going shorter. She asked if I had time to wait while she tended to two other appointments again I said it's fine. I waited. She then was nice but started saying if you wanted your hair this short you should have said so. Now your hair is dry and I hate cutting dry hair. She again had issues with the dryer. Then she had pulled out the clippers to fix the back. And she had a male friend come in and he's talking about his long hair and then she's she goes on to change subjects about changing tiles, all while trying to fix my hair. At the end she didn't do the greatest job and said just give me $25. Come back if you like I can touch up any possible chibos(Spanish for mistakes). I went back in mid July she was tending to one person she was polite I asked her if she could fix my hair. It was growing out very choppy. But I showed her haircuts that were very short bobs/pixie cuts. She seemed annoyed and said I didn't have enough hair meanwhile I had more than enough because it was a super short cut I wanted. So I said listen if you can't do it, then it's fine. She said I can do it. Just take a seat. When she was ready for me. She asked who cut my hair? It's so choppy. I said you did a few months ago. She insisted that she didn't. That it was not her work. She did not believe me and kept questioning what I did to my hair. I was like listen it was you. I haven't gone anywhere else. So she gave me the hair cut. Before blowing out put product in my hair to then insist that my hair was difficult to blow out because I colored my hair on my own. Then said you have good hair but your damaging your hair. Meanwhile it was the product. I personally don't put mousse in my hair and then try to blow dry it. When she finished she said ok your done. And walked away to sweep hair. She didn't give me a mirror so that I can look at the back of my hair. I asked how much. I believe she charged me 35. I gave her a tip although I didn't feel she deserved it. She took it and sat down by where the nail lady was at. And I have never ever felt like I was being thrown out of a chair until that day. I don't often go to a salon so it is truly a day of pampering for myself and I honestly walked out feeling like shit. I will not be coming back here and would not recommend this place to anyone.
