I called and described the problem I was having (door handle no longer opening door/not opening latch), what brand of lock, type of door handle, etc. and was told that he could help, what the quote was (and the price was exactly as quoted), and that he'd be at the house in less than 45 minutes (which he was; which is faster than I would have gotten a pizza had I used DoorDash). FYI, I read some of the reviews complaining about the lack of bedside manner and this is my feedback. If you are looking for someone to chat to you about your day and give you the warm and fuzzies, the Lock Doctor is not your guy (he is retired military and reminded me of the saltier Navy Chiefs I used to work with when I was in the Navy which I like). But if you want someone who can be direct and to the point and provide competent, quick, and reasonably priced service, then I recommend that you give him a call. read more

Our keys (and car) were stolen and I called around to several locksmiths because I wanted to get our locks rekeyed immediately. All the locksmiths I called were unable to make a house call the same day, and were booked out 2+ weeks. I called The Lock Doctor and Rod answered the phone, but was on another job and wasn't sure if he'd have time to come out. He called me about 30 minutes later and said he could come by! I was ever so grateful. He rekeyed our locks and left me feeling a bit safer. He even gave me some cool and useful swag - I think he knew I'd had a bad day and was trying to cheer me up. Perhaps he is excellent when he does go out to work on locks, but I did not get to find that out. I called at around 5pm on a Friday evening. He answered the phone. I explained what had happened and where I was. He then proceeded to explain to me that he had just sat down to dinner, and learned he needed to take a break over the years, etc., etc. I just kept saying, "Ok.... ok...ok..." as he never really stopped to allow me to politely end the call. He never actually said, "I'm not available this evening." After multiple lines of explanation, he just hung up the phone - without saying goodbye or anything. I totally get self-care, but what I do not understand is answering the phone and then leading me on to think he was available only then to guilt trip me for calling. I'm calling a business - not a personal call. Why did he answer the phone if he doesn't want the business? Why not have a voicemail recording that says, "I am unavailable between the hours of ____"? I was kayaking in Olympia and dropped my car key in the sound without knowing it locking myself out. I got back to land and my car around 5:45PM (around the time most or all locksmiths officially close for the day). I called LITERALLY all the locksmiths in Olympia and either none had an operative in the area that could help me out or they simply didn't answer their phones (one said he could help me around 8PM). I was worried I'd have to leave my car overnight and stay with a friend. I had to call The Lock Doctor in Lacey to reach someone who could help me out. When I called Rod he was eating his dinner. He broke to talk with me and said he'd be on his way in a few minutes. He arrived quickly and also quickly let me back into my car (where I stupidly or presciently hide a spare key). He was friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, and gracious after being called out to a neighboring city in the middle of his dinner time! He is an old-timer who clearly knows what he is doing! Our house was recently trashed by a former friend who was house sitting. Although she returned the key, we did not feel confident that she had not made a copy. Rod Cobb, aka The Lock Doctor, was recommended to me by another highly rated locksmith who was booked a month out. Rod was here within an hour of calling! He has decades of experience and quickly got to work changing out the cores on 15 locks. He found three broken/corroded locks, of which we were unaware, and was able to fix those as well. Although Rod seemed a bit gruff on the phone, he is personable and professional in person, and a real pleasure to work with. Additionally, Rod is a 20 year veteran of the Army, and served two tours in Vietnam. We are always happy to hire a veteran. I recently hired The Lock Doctor to rekey locks in between tenants in a rental property. I was very specific in advising the representative (in the picture) that I only wanted the front and back doors rekeyed, however, he decided to check around the property for other locks that potentially needed to be change. I reinforced that it was ONLY the back and front doors, but he continued to disregard what I was saying and ended up changing the door to the garage without my consent, but at my expense. If that wasn't enough, when he was finished he threw the keys up and me and said, "there you go". If you're looking for an establishment that prioritizes customer service than I would absolutely consider another company. This guy is unprofessional, disrespectful, and will charge you for services that are not required. Find another locksmith! read more
