Hampton Inn Princeton - Breakfast Area

Aesthetic: A well run Hampton Inn…read more My Favorites: The free snack selection. Experience: This was a very well managed Hilton property, we enjoyed our night here. We were impressed with all the complimentary snack offerings upon arrival. The beds were standard, comfy, and clean. We had a nice little mountain view and it was a cute area. The tub in the shower didn't have a drain plug and looked like it needed to be painted badly, and the water pressure was very weak, that was the only downside, but not a huge deal for an overnight. We'd definitely stay here again when in Princeton.

This trip was no different--after a seven-hour road trip, the four of us (plus my service dog) rolled in, dreaming of a quick swim and some relaxation. Spoiler alert: that dream died fast. We used the Hilton app to check in, but I went down to the desk for a second key so my husband and I could both access the room and amenities. I gave my room number, and--without asking for my name, ID, or even confirming I belonged there--the employee just handed me a key and said, "Have a good night." I'm sorry, WHAT? That's not customer service, that's a security disaster waiting to happen. We stayed in room 504, where we were greeted by a musty, dirty odor strong enough to knock you backward. The room looked like it hadn't seen a dust cloth in years. The bathtub? Absolutely disgusting. Several light bulbs were out. The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable, the whole place felt like a tropical rainforest with the humidity, and the Wi-Fi (which I need for my work as a REALTOR®) didn't connect at all. To top it off, the shower had no hot water, and by morning, I'd developed a sore throat. The pool was supposed to be our redemption moment. Instead, an interior light fixture came loose while my kids were in the water. We immediately got them out and told the staff. Two hours later, the pool was still open and people were still swimming like nothing happened. Because apparently, here, safety hazards double as "added ambiance." Then there's the "pet relief" area--a 5x5 patch of grass that looked like a landmine field of other dogs' poop, with shards of glass scattered throughout. The bag dispensers were empty, not that I didn't bring my own. My poor service dog deserves better than that. And just when I thought I'd seen it all, I spotted exposed wires on the 5th floor, seemingly connected to a security camera. Nothing says "welcome" quite like loose electrical wiring. The one and only pleasant surprise? Breakfast. It was actually good--shockingly good, given everything else. Unfortunately, one decent meal doesn't erase the fact that this stay was dirty, unsafe, uncomfortable, and far below the standard Hilton promises, especially for Diamond members.

The B&B is located in a quiet and relaxing area on the outskirts of town, and the porch swings, rocking chairs, and front and back porch give the place a very homey feel. The dining room is beautiful and has a long wooden table that's great for large groups or encouraging interaction, conversation, and community with other guests. The bathrooms are clean, and clean towels were provided. There was a basket full of hair supplies in case you forgot to bring shampoo or conditioner. Sandi was very attentive and helpful if any help was needed with anything. She also is a great storyteller and is very knowledgeable about the area and things to do. Breakfast was amazing. Sausage, eggs, and bacon (crispy, the way it should be!) piled high! I highly recommend Eva's House! Will definitive back!

I felt as though I stepped back in time to my childhood farm homestead. Waking to the sounds and smells of a home cooked breakfast and chatting with the owners as they opened their home to us was so comforting and enjoyable! I looked into a Bed and Breakfast and found the Rockwood Manor. The price was what you would expect with no price gouging whatsoever. It turned out to be a very happy turn of events. Rockwood Manor is about a 15 minute drive from Radford university and was perfect for our needs. The Manor is on the historic register. A bit rustic on in places, it was last renovated in 2005. It is a beautiful place and our Hosts Frank and Rochelle were warm, friendly and very welcoming. We stayed in the Blakemore room. It had lots of windows which provided a nice view of the property. Our room also had a jacuzzi which we used and it was amazing after a long day on the road. The bed was a bit more firm than what we are used to at home and we recommended a mattress topper but by no means is this a negative as it is a personal preference. The linens were nice and clean and smelled fresh. We walked around the property and they looked to be all set up for wedding events. Lots of space, lots of areas for photo ops. It would be an ideal place for a wedding with room for a reception. The inside while at one point was the family home was like walking through history. We loved it. My favorite thing about the place was that I felt at home. Frank and and Rochelle are wonderful hosts. The breakfast the next morning was great with options for everyone. They also set the food up buffet style which made me feel like I was at a big family breakfast :) The only suggestion I would have is for our hosts to look into some professional rug cleaning. There were a couple of stains in the rug under the table in our room would need professional stain removal to get out. This place is one of the best B&Bs my wife and I have ever visited. We loved it!!!

The grounds and the home are wonderful. The house is full of the history of the home, American values and beautifully addressed for the Christmas season. The services, food and amenities cannot be beat in a surreal time setting in America's past. Christy was wonderful; she reached out to ensure we could gain access, answers questions and prepared our breakfast the next morning. She is the best and should be acknowledged for her spirit of excellent service. Rockwood Manor also has a Hokie room in the basement, I am sure it was in tribute to my son's graduation. Rockwood Manor is the best of the best!

Sarah helped us get checked in quickly and efficiently. She even helped with a phone charger that I forgot to pack and signed us up for late check out so I could sleep in. From the housekeeping staff, to the buffet staff, to the front desk staff and even maintenance (becuase I apparently do not know how a deadbolt works) everyone was kind and helpful. They made my large family feel welcome. This hotel gives us a reason to come back to the area. I would recommend for anyone wanting to enjoy mountain scenery and a great stay!

Check-in was quick and hassle free and I was in my room in short order. The Room was very clean, spacious and very well attended. The bed was well made and very comfortable. The bathroom was adequate in size and stocked with toiletries. The Wi-Fi was strong and worked well throughout my two-night stay. The breakfast area was rather small and tends to be crowded with limited seating especially if other guests tended to monopolize the majority of the seating for an extended period of time. Both morning or my stay, the same large group took up most of the seats and tables for well over an hour which made if difficult for other guest to enjoy their breakfast. I ended up taking breakfast back to my room both mornings. The breakfast attendant did and excellent job of keeping the area clean and well stocked throughout the advertised hours. This hotel is rather secluded and located well away from Busy U. S. Highway 460. There is no road noise while allows for a quiet and restful night's sleep. Overall, the staff of this hotel is very polite, professional, and invested in seeing that their guests have an enjoyable stay. I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn Claypool Hill and will return anytime that I am in the Tazewell County Area.
