We were impressed with all the complimentary snack offerings upon arrival. The beds were standard, comfy, and clean. We had a nice little mountain view and it was a cute area. The tub in the shower didn't have a drain plug and looked like it needed to be painted badly, and the water pressure was very weak, that was the only downside, but not a huge deal for an overnight. We are Diamond members, traveling constantly for our kids' competitive sports, often choosing Hilton without hesitation. This trip was no different--after a seven-hour road trip, the four of us (plus my service dog) rolled in, dreaming of a quick swim and some relaxation. Spoiler alert: that dream died fast. We used the Hilton app to check in, but I went down to the desk for a second key so my husband and I could both access the room and amenities. I gave my room number, and--without asking for my name, ID, or even confirming I belonged there--the employee just handed me a key and said, "Have a good night." I'm sorry, WHAT? That's not customer service, that's a security disaster waiting to happen. We stayed in room 504, where we were greeted by a musty, dirty odor strong enough to knock you backward. The room looked like it hadn't seen a dust cloth in years. The bathtub? Absolutely disgusting. Several light bulbs were out. The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable, the whole place felt like a tropical rainforest with the humidity, and the Wi-Fi (which I need for my work as a REALTOR®) didn't connect at all. To top it off, the shower had no hot water, and by morning, I'd developed a sore throat. The pool was supposed to be our redemption moment. Instead, an interior light fixture came loose while my kids were in the water. We immediately got them out and told the staff. Two hours later, the pool was still open and people were still swimming like nothing happened. Because apparently, here, safety hazards double as "added ambiance." Then there's the "pet relief" area--a 5x5 patch of grass that looked like a landmine field of other dogs' poop, with shards of glass scattered throughout. The bag dispensers were empty, not that I didn't bring my own. My poor service dog deserves better than that. And just when I thought I'd seen it all, I spotted exposed wires on the 5th floor, seemingly connected to a security camera. Nothing says "welcome" quite like loose electrical wiring. The one and only pleasant surprise? Breakfast. It was actually good--shockingly good, given everything else. Unfortunately, one decent meal doesn't erase the fact that this stay was dirty, unsafe, uncomfortable, and far below the standard Hilton promises, especially for Diamond members. read more

I liked the cleanliness of the room. There was plenty of space to put my things. There was construction in progress, but it didn't interfere with anything I needed. The free wi-fi was convenient. The bed was comfortable. I had a thermostat so I could control the temperature. The breakfast was better than expected. I especially liked the "make your own waffles." They get more points in my book for their wonderful front desk staff than anything. They were super eager to answer any questions, and both of them had great personalities. I hope management sees this, because too often Yelpers don't focus on hotel staff, just room conditions. My room was fine by the way. I have no complaints about the room or facilities overall. I just wanted to mention how nice it was to have somebody greet me with enthusiasm rather than acting like I was interrupting their time on their cell phones. Good staff are hard to find. NOTHING BUT WONDERFUL! After reading reviews of many hotels in the Beckley/Princeton areas, we chose this Hampton Inn (and it was $40 cheaper per night than many others). We are Hilton Honors members but had looked at multiple hotel brands. While it might be slightly dated in a couple of areas, and none that really mattered, everything else was exceptional! Friendly woman at the desk for our near midnight check-in offering not only waters or soft drinks but a few snack options as well. Room was very clean, including the bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was above the standard Hampton in our opinion. And they had BACON! Every other Hampton we've stayed at (many) always had sausage. Offerings were cheese omelets, potatoes, standard waffles & blueberry waffles, oatmeal & cereal, bagels/toast & a couple pastries. Pros: Location is excellent. Within walking distance to restaurants and convenience store. Cons: This is probably my fault for not realizing this was a pet-friendly hotel. Assigned a room on the ground floor where most with pets might choose. Not sure if it's that or something else but floor had a musty smell and so did the room. Little attention to details were missed so one wonders what else is amiss. For instance, when we checked in, a used towel (I presume) was hanging on the back of the door and the toilet seat was up (but it appeared clean so maybe just inadvertent?). That all being said, I might give this place another shot by choosing a room on an upper floor, if possible. read more

would have been a better review if the sink drain worked and bar soap was in the room. the bath mat was wet. weird? yep. upside? called the front and the dude brought a bar of soap immediately - now that's service. it's appointed okay and isn't beat too bad. as usual the tv guide is impossible to find or figure out so it's random tv for us. there's a fridge, coffee and microwave (no idea if they work) and it's right off the highway and near a few restaurants including a not totally bad steakhouse (think longhorn) restaurant with ice cold drafts. i expect $130 rooms to be cleaned and ready for guests. this room met my clean sheet, usb outlets, good tv expectations. this one was clean but partially broken. worth $90/night. hear me Hilton? read more

I really wasn't expecting much when I booked a hotel in this area, but I this is a 10/10 for me! I decided to stay in the area on my drive to Myrtle Beach to catch some sleep before driving the last leg to my destination. Hotel is very easy to find off of the highway and is surrounded by everything. There is something for everyone near the hotel from Applebee's, Cracker Barrel, a steak house, convenience store, liquor store, and even a gentleman's club. If you don't want to be in the hotel all night, you can find something to do. The hotel staff were super nice! Check in and out was easy. They had a pool and a gym, which I unfortunately didn't have time to enjoy as I checked in at 9pm, went to dinner and ended up in a carb coma. The breakfast was awesome and had so many selections. The best part of the hotel is definitely the bed. I was in a king bed and it was the coziest bed I have ever slept in. I cannot rave enough about how amazing of a sleep I got here!! Should I find myself traveling thru Princeton in the future and in need of a place to crash, I will definitely stay here! read more

Our office made a huge mistake with the reservation that caused the computer system to kick out our rooming block. The issue came to light when our group members started to show up to check in. The general manager, Ruth, is a rock star. She worked diligently and swiftly to get our rooms booked and all the paperwork taken care of -- within about fifteen minutes! I couldn't really justify giving this place 3 stars, so 4 it is. I'm a big fan on Hampton Inn, and stay there whenever possible. I'm a Hilton Honors member. One of the perks is picking your own room, but I wasn't able to do that. I should've also gotten a free bottle of water upon check in, but these things are trivial. Not a big deal. I will say a huge turn off was that this hotel was out of all hand sanitizers and wipes. They have sanitizing stations at the elevators and at the doors, but EVERY SINGLE one was out. The lysol wipes were also out. They were out when we checked in and still out when we checked out. All of their vending machines and ice machines were out of order. I thought maybe because of Covid they didn't want people touching them or something? I'm not sure. They all just had out of order signs. Breakfast was pretty bland, and a lot of things were out. No regular syrup, only sugar free. All the toast and bagels were gone. I'm sure someone was restocking, but the 40 minutes we were there, no one did. We went swimming in the pool, and it was really salty. My husband says it's a saltwater pool, so that's why. But I didn't see anything saying it was a salt pool and it's not on their website? If it's not a saltwater pool, something's wrong - LOL. I always stay at the Hampton Inn when possible, but this location was just kind of a let down. read more

I hesitate to give our room 3 stars, but really couldn't justify giving it 2. We are in a "King Suite" - which in the past has meant a king sized bed with a couch and desk. Our room is quite small, has a curtained area for a "closet", no couch (a kind of love seat that is not comfortable for sitting), a smallish bathroom. All in all - not what I have come to expect from Hampton Inn - and I have been staying at Hampton Inns for over 2 decades. I am very disappointed! PS - as a Hilton Honors member I am supposed to be offered bottled water at check-in ... nope ... nada. I may have to reconsider Hampton Inn as my "go to" choice when traveling. read more

First let me say I'm a loyal Hampton Inn customer (a gold status member). That means nothing except I give them a lot of business. I gave this rating for the following reasons: - I didn't get the room I selected when I made my online check-in. I carry a lot of bags and preferred the first floor. But, I didn't know my room was changed until I arrived and my digital key showed a different room number than the one I preselected. It's not that big a deal so I went to the new room. - When I arrived at the new room on the third floor, it appeared to be occupied (paper tape on the door was torn), but nonetheless I tried the digital key, and it worked. Upon cracking open the door, I discovered the room was indeed already occupied. This is unacceptable and scary. - The front desk was able to assign a new room, but it wasn't on the first floor, which was my preference. Nothing on the first floor was available. And, the desk clerk was confused because I had been assigned to stay in the room shown on my digital key -- the room which was already occupied by someone else. The fact that this can take place is a security risk and is unacceptable. There should be a software safeguard or something. I reported this situation on the Hampton Inn email survey, and the hotel replied promptly to tell me they had discovered the cause of the problem. It was an employee error and I understand -- errors happen. They apologized profusely and invited me back. The hotel is clean and well kept, and in a good location. But I'll sure feel iffy about leaving possessions in any Hampton Inn room from now on! PS -- be sure to use the safety latch on your door when you're in there. read more

We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn in Princeton, West Virginia, en route back to North Carolina. I'd call this an adequate Hampton Inn, just off I-77. Though not new, like nearly all Hampton Inns it has been well maintained. Only a couple of things need upgrading. One, and it's important, is the beds. Our king mattress wasn't firm and was in need of replacement with a higher quality product. The older 32-inch TV also is due for an upgrade to a larger screen. Other than that, no complaints. The price was reasonable, everything was clean and the included breakfast was okay (though the fruit didn't seem very fresh.) We're Hilton Diamonds and stay frequently at Hampton Inns. read more

Our stay began with a warm greeting and gracious check-in. Our room was ready, which was much appreciated after a long travel day. Unfortunately, the room was a huge disappointment. We booked a King room with chaise lounge, thinking we'd have extra room. Nope, it is a tiny room with no close-able closets. What is supposed to serve as closets, are actually two small openings with stained cloth curtains to pull over the area. The bathroom is tiny, tiny with very little space for any personal toiletries. It needs a good long scrubbing to get rid of the of the cruddy corners in front of the tub and the black mildew in the tub walls. The floor in the bathroom was sticky, and the cups left for coffee were unwrapped - so much for clean and sanitary. Good luck working in this room, there was inadequate lighting and the bedside usb charging plugs did not work. Totally disappointing, do not recommend it nor will I stay here again. read more

Over priced. My shower know was broken even when I pulled the shower head appeared a mess. Noisy can hear others in rooms. We usually love Hampton, not this time. This morning when we reported shower only thing they did was apologized and gave us 6 packages of instant tea. Ridiculous. read more

I made reservations through Hotel.com on November 29, 2022 for the nights of March 24-25, 2023 for a stay for a conference I was attending. I repeatedly received notifications from Hotel.com that the reservation was booked, right up to the day I left for the conference. When I arrived at the Hampton Inn, Princeton, I was told that my reservation was canceled. The young lady at the desk was sympathetic but said there were no rooms and made very little effort to make things right. I spent 2 hours in three cities traveling before I finally found a room for $100 cheaper. However, Hampton Inn is refusing to refund my payment for the stay that I did not receive. I will NEVER use Hampton Inn or Hotel. com again. I did contact a Hotel.com agent but they had no success in obtaining a refund. read more

I've stayed at three Hampton Inns in the last three months and all of them have been excellent. The facility in Princeton may have the best location I've seen yet: Cracker Barrel is just across the parking lot. What more could one ask for? The only inconvenience at this location was there was no meat dish on the breakfast buffet when I arrived, but since it was after 9AM, other more punctual guests may have eaten it. Otherwise the buffet had the usual excellent selection and variety. The real measure of a hotel is how problems are handled and this Hampton was excellent here, too. I told the front desk my shower head didn't work on all settings, particularly on my favorite (the heads are the Sunbeam brand with mucho options) and there was a light burned out over my desk. A cheerful and efficient repairman showed up within the hour and fixed both problems. My only regret was my plans changed and I had to leave before I could try out the new shower head. Very disappointed ..... the management has not kept the hotel up to Hampton's we expect to stay in while traveling. The breakfast offered lots of choices as usual but the person in charge of restocking food., clearing and cleaning tables and especially the food area had food spilled all over and not very appealing. The chairs needed cleaning since they were stained and the tables needed wiped down .... they were sticky and down right discussing. We travel a lot and depend on Hampton being clean and ready for their guests. The personal was nice but it was the lack of caring for the facility and food areas that was not up to Hamptons reputation. Hope this was helpful to the management. read more

Mostly as advertised. Our room was clean and neat while spare on size for a family of 5. Free breakfast was powdered eggs, sausage and oatmeal with cereal and yogurt. Meh. Coffee was not good (and I'm not even picky about coffee, usually!). Location is convenient to most good local restaurants and local welcome center. If I was to book again I would get two adjoining rooms not the king with a sleeper sofa. read more

December 25, 2017 The hotel is nice and clean and the night staff - he was very friendly; however, the beds were like sleeping on plywood on top of really bad springs and the shower was horrible - bad shower head and pressure. The reason I choose Hampton is because I'm a Hilton Honors member and I usually enjoy the stay, but this Hampton should reconsider beds - don't be so cheap and spend some money on quality beds and maybe do something with the showers. We finally got up after tossing and turning all night and cried as we got ready because we were so stiff and cramped... The property was nice. The people were friendly. The room was great. The fitness center was very small and I truly would have appreciated some weights vice just the cardio equipment. Additionally, and I guess I'm coming to realize this is standard for Hampton :-( I really was disheartened about not having a small frig in my room. I have dietary restrictions so I carry food with me but even if I didn't, travelers sometimes have left overs they'd like to keep cold. The hotel is reasonably clean and located within walking distance of many restaurants. The beds are okay, but not amazing. Unfortunately some amenities are not available on weekends. For example, I was not able to use the pool on a Friday (in August) because the pool chemicals were added late in the afternoon and as a result the pool would be closed until Saturday evening. Also no cookies because it is the weekend - I guess the management doesn't want to risk actually giving cookies to guests. read more

One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in to not be a "luxury hotel"! Super nice staff, really nice rooms w/all the amenities I'd expect a hotel room to have, inviting lobby/sitting area, great breakfast (Belgian waffles, eggs, sausage gravy & biscuits, French toast sticks, fresh fruit, yogurt, assorted pastries, cereal & milk, juice, & coffee--very pleased!), very clean & quiet but not "dead". The ONLY drawback I could find was if you need 2 beds as we did, they only offer doubles & not queens--my hubby & I are "full-figured" & sleep in a king at home, so the sleeping was a bit tight, but still comfortable over all. And I noticed another review mentioned the lack of a mini fridge &/or microwave--there ARE rooms available that have both amenities, you just have to pick the correct one. No fridge, not microwave. Toilet worked poorly, shower worked poorly. The gym was very small and lacking equipment.

Check in was easy. The front staff were so kind to allow our group to have a mini New Year's Eve celebration in the lobby. Free popcorn in the afternoon was an added treat. I recently went to WVa to visit my family. I don't usually stay at Hampton Inns, but this was the best hotel available in the area. My number one thing with any hotel is how clean it is. The bed was perfect! Fresh, crisp, white and clean! Pillows were awesome. Small fitness center, but I was too busy to use it anyway. This is one of our favorite hotels anywhere! After staying here a handful of times, our foursome only has a few minor things we'd like to see improved upon: an exhaust fan in the bathroom (gets extremely stuffy after taking a shower), a mini fridge & microwave in the room in case you have leftovers from eating locally (or at least a microwave in the lobby area), & a snack vending machine where the pop machine is (sometimes you just need crackers or a candy bar). Other than that, we have zero complaints! ALL hotel staff members are very courteous & helpful! We also loved that, since this particular stay was Halloween weekend, the ladies working the breakfast area made things feel festive by being in costume!
