    Early morning at Big Walker
    Brandi L.

I met Willy the owner of Big Walker about three years ago when a local woman recommended the Motel. I have had the pleasure of getting to know the staff and receiving consistent service that I am happy with. The rooms are clean, neat, and comfortable. The staff is personable and helpful. If you are looking for a safe comfortable relaxing environment with out a bunch of distractions then visit Big Walker!!! Pet friendly/easily accessible/ close to the HWY/ Good hearted staff!

The staff was friendly. The rooms were clean. Great Mountain View's. Would definitely recommend.

I was on a road trip and starting to get tired. I saw a sign on the interstate for Big Walker Motel and decided to stop. I was greeted by the owner who was very friendly and who told me all about the history of the motel and the area. I checked into my room and found it to be just as he described .... clean and comfortable (I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow). The motel was very clean and it brought me back to a simpler time in life when the roadside motel was the norm. I will definitely stay here again while traveling in the area. As a matter of fact, the motel would actually be a good base while exploring the areas attractions, scenery, auto racing and parks.

    Two comfortable, clean beds.

On first sight, I thought this is either a quaint little mountain inn or a great place film a horror movie. After a fuss-free check-in I opened the door to my room and was grateful to confirm the former. Clean, quiet, with a good shower and wonderful mountain view. The outdoor seating is a wonderful amenity; you can relax and enjoy the fresh air. I would recommend you bring your own pillow, as those provided were very hard, but that's a minor detail. There was an in-room fridge and microwave, which you hardly ever see. It was a great place to spend a night!

The rooms are clean and comfortable, just like other reviews have said. The shower was terrific... I appreciate when there's a shower wand and not too much water softener. Little touches like extra soap and plush towels were a nice bonus. We even appreciated the smart TV which more motels and hotels should be doing these days. We truly enjoyed our stay and bookmarked it on our map so we're sure to come again when traveling through. Thanks so much Fox Mountain Inn!

Great Base For Local Motorcycle Tours Of The Area…read more My wife and I stayed at the Fox Mountain Inn for two days this past weekend. We had a great time and felt it was a good value. The rooms were spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable and Michelle and Jim are wonderful hosts. They provided fresh coffee as well as a selection of Keurig pods and tea in the office lobby each morning. They also had home made cinnamon rolls which were delicious. It's locate just off of I-81 but it's set far enough back that you don't hear the traffic. We were on motorcycles and were there to ride some of the fantastic roads in the area. Fox Mountain Inn is motorcycle friendly and provided cloths to wipe down the morning dew as well as a bike wash area if a more thorough cleaning is necessary. In the evening, Jim built a bonfire for guests to relax around. They also have cornhole and "Yardzee" (oversized Yatzee dice game) for some fun diversions. There's alsoa Mexican restaurant (Cholula Mexican Restaurant) conveniently located near the motel. (you have to love being able to walk to dinner after spending the day on a motorcycle) Rather than large corporate chain motels, we prefer the smaller "mom and pop" places. The Fox Mountain Inn is a real winner! We had an excellent stay and will definitely be back when were next in the area.

We planned this trip as our first anniversary weekend to get away from the chaos of everyday life and it was every bit of what we needed. Unlike other B&Bs, Scott and Loren's home offers a secluded and private setting where you can enjoy the grounds without having to tiptoe around other guests or wait for a good spot on the porch to open up. It offers a level of comfort and seclusion not easily found elsewhere. Their property is amazing with gardens throughout and a quietness you cannot find at other B&Bs. They are incredibly welcoming to their home and go out of their way to make you feel appreciated. While we were secluded from civilization, the home itself offered all of the amenities you could ever need. We especially enjoyed exploring the books on the shelves, sitting on the porch, looking at the many species of trees and plant life, and perhaps best of all Scott's French Toast breakfast. I cannot stress enough just how wonderful our stay was and how accommodating they were to our last-minute changes. We are deeply appreciative for their hospitality and every little touch they put in to make our stay a memorable one. We will definitely be back for future stays.

They prepared a wonderful hot breakfast in the morning with fruit and a tartin- kind of an open-faced sandwich. My only complaint is the parking is very awkward, especially if you don't have a compact car, but they have made the most of the landscape.

Honestly, meeting Gary and Kitt gave me the definition of southern hospitality. Kitt took care to ask about my dietary needs and adjusted her breakfast menu accordingly. Not only do I strongly recommend at Least one night here, I'm concerned that they'll be too booked up for me to get back in.

We were impressed with all the complimentary snack offerings upon arrival. The beds were standard, comfy, and clean. We had a nice little mountain view and it was a cute area. The tub in the shower didn't have a drain plug and looked like it needed to be painted badly, and the water pressure was very weak, that was the only downside, but not a huge deal for an overnight. This trip was no different--after a seven-hour road trip, the four of us (plus my service dog) rolled in, dreaming of a quick swim and some relaxation. Spoiler alert: that dream died fast. We used the Hilton app to check in, but I went down to the desk for a second key so my husband and I could both access the room and amenities. I gave my room number, and--without asking for my name, ID, or even confirming I belonged there--the employee just handed me a key and said, "Have a good night." I'm sorry, WHAT? That's not customer service, that's a security disaster waiting to happen. We stayed in room 504, where we were greeted by a musty, dirty odor strong enough to knock you backward. The room looked like it hadn't seen a dust cloth in years. The bathtub? Absolutely disgusting. Several light bulbs were out. The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable, the whole place felt like a tropical rainforest with the humidity, and the Wi-Fi (which I need for my work as a REALTOR®) didn't connect at all. To top it off, the shower had no hot water, and by morning, I'd developed a sore throat. The pool was supposed to be our redemption moment. Instead, an interior light fixture came loose while my kids were in the water. We immediately got them out and told the staff. Two hours later, the pool was still open and people were still swimming like nothing happened. Because apparently, here, safety hazards double as "added ambiance." Then there's the "pet relief" area--a 5x5 patch of grass that looked like a landmine field of other dogs' poop, with shards of glass scattered throughout. The bag dispensers were empty, not that I didn't bring my own. My poor service dog deserves better than that. And just when I thought I'd seen it all, I spotted exposed wires on the 5th floor, seemingly connected to a security camera. Nothing says "welcome" quite like loose electrical wiring. The one and only pleasant surprise? Breakfast. It was actually good--shockingly good, given everything else. Unfortunately, one decent meal doesn't erase the fact that this stay was dirty, unsafe, uncomfortable, and far below the standard Hilton promises, especially for Diamond members.

We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special. Come visit in the summer and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the mountains.
