This was my second visit to this hotel. The first being about 2 months ago…read more I was impressed with the kindness of the staff at both encounters. My disappointment was that my room bathroom had many small piles of long dark hair and dust in the corners. I was not pleased to find this on an item I dropped and then picked up. There was also hair on the carpet between the beds. (My last visit I did ask for a different room because the shower was stained). So it seems bathroom cleanliness is not their top priority. Overall, the sheets did not appear to be stained or dirty. On the second day of my visit my sheet that should have been fitted for the mattress was simply a top sheet tucked under which I discovered when I unintentionally removed it while turning the covers down. This hotel has beautiful art on the walls and great spaces. I just wish it was a little cleaner overall.

My daughter appreciated the close proximity and so did I. The hotel is new and beautiful and has two restaurants. One down stairs only open in mornings and one on 6th floor that opens in afternoon. I've eaten at both and enjoyed my food. The upstairs has a beautiful outside area too with sparkling lights. My suite was huge. It has a wet bar, huge kitchen table, living room, a bedroom and very up to date bathroom area. I look forward to my next visit.

Everything was going fine until my little girl got sick from the pool chemicals. It was a one time thing in the morning hours then she was fine. I cleaned it up, striped the bed and notified the maid service. You could definitely tell the maid wasn't happy about the situation. But she is a kid and accidents happen. I check out and notice a $526.50 charge separate from my $427 charge from the weekend stay. I call the next Tuesday and see if I can see why I was charged this amount. I was told the manager Krista Branch was on vacation. Called back again and was told she was filling in for another GM at another location.Keep calling multiple days and no call bak. So I called the Hilton honors customer service line. She told me in the notes it stated I was charged that amount because my daughter puked and the manager has called to explain this to me(this is what the notes say). Krista Branch has never called me one time after calling over ten times and leaving messages. I really question the integrity of this business as she has lied on documentation. I have asked Hilton corporation and left messages and asked for an itemized receipt, incident report and photos/evidence. Hilton Corp said it was up to the local hotel to provide that and they had no control but sent an email to Krista to provide me this information, on top of the messages I have left! I was honest and upfront and would have been okay with a cleaning fee, but $526.50 is absolutely ridiculous, especially with no explanation. They just charged me a random amount and then decided not answer any questions about it. As a single mom this was a hard hit! Please don't stay here as the manager will charge you random amounts and try to get away with it and lie on documentation to Hilton Corporation. Please BEWARE!! So, So disappointed with the dishonesty and management at this location!

A Wedding at Nesselrod on the New: A Beautiful Day Marred by Broken Promises…read moreWeddings are meant to be magical and stress-free. When we began planning ours, we envisioned an intimate micro-wedding with about 50 guests on a crisp November day. We chose Nesselrod on the New, under new ownership, for its rustic charm. Unfortunately, what should have been a beautiful experience was marred by disorganization, broken promises, and unprofessional behavior. When we first toured the venue in July, Brittany, the new owner, promised the barn would be fully enclosed with permanent walls and heated floors by our wedding date. She also offered to decorate based on a Pinterest board I sent. However, early signs of disorganization appeared: Brittany gave different price quotes, delayed the contract (which still had the previous owner's information), and needed multiple reminders on details we had already discussed. The major issue arose two weeks before the wedding when Brittany casually texted us that the barn walls would not be built; instead, she would hang cream-colored tarps. A week before the wedding, she added that the heated floors might not work either. At that point, with guests' travel already arranged, it was too late to cancel. The night before our wedding, while we were in the middle of a special family dinner, Brittany sent a picture of the barn with clear plastic stapled up around it. Her accompanying message was, "I like it better without the tarps, brings in more natural light." I responded, "The main thing is to make sure it is warm. It's going to be dark. We want the tarps." Her response? "I'm not going to use them, they cost a lot for one-time use." This was the moment everything came to a head. She had promised tarps. She had promised walls. And now she was choosing, unilaterally, to back out of those commitments the night before the biggest day of our lives. Her tone grew increasingly defensive and dismissive. She claimed she'd gone "above and beyond" for what we had paid, even though she hadn't delivered what was contractually promised. She even said she had sold a car to afford the plastic sheets, which she insisted were superior to the tarps anyway. Her texts continued to get more hostile. When I began crying, my family insisted I cease communication. On the wedding day, Brittany and her husband were still stapling plastic up hours before the ceremony. Our florist arrived to install floral arrangements on the arbor, and Brittany's husband--Joe--helped her while muttering curse words and angrily saying, "Who the f** holds a wedding in November?"*. That is not something a vendor should ever say, let alone at the actual event. Guests had to wear coats indoors because the heated floors were non-functional. Brittany and Joe spent the reception sitting at the edge of the dance floor in casual clothing, scrolling on their phones. They looked completely disinterested and detached--like they were bored employees at a DMV, not hosts of a once-in-a-lifetime celebration. Two teenage girls--wearing jeans and sweatshirts--wandered through the barn mid-reception holding a small dog. They helped themselves to food, stood around the drink table, and chatted with Brittany like it was a casual get-together. They even let the dog run around the dance floor, posing a tripping hazard while people were dancing. These girls made it into our wedding photos. Let that sink in. After the event, our family stayed behind to help clean up. We had been told that we only needed to remove the trash and that the venue staff would take care of the rest. However, someone had apparently gotten sick in the bathroom--and rather than quietly taking care of it as a venue host should, Brittany confronted my family and asked indignantly, "Who is going to clean the bathroom?!" My father and daughter-in-law ended up cleaning the mess in their wedding clothes. As our family packed up the decorations, Brittany casually suggested they leave them for her to use. She also wanted to keep the extra plates, cups, silverware, and food. It felt exploitative and incredibly presumptuous. At this point, our family was so done with the situation that they only left behind a box of crackers--which Brittany said she could use to feed her chickens. Brittany may be new to owning a venue, but there's no excuse for this level of disorganization, broken promises, and rudeness. What was most disappointing wasn't just that things didn't go as promised--it was the lack of professionalism, the gaslighting, and the hostile tone she took when we asked her to follow through on basic commitments. Our wedding ended up beautiful because of our loved ones and in spite of Nesselrod. Brittany's behavior added unnecessary stress to what should have been a joyful occasion. If you're considering Nesselrod on the New for your event, I strongly urge you to reconsider. A pretty venue is meaningless without professionalism and trustworthiness behind it.

Our room, the Lily of the Valley, was clean, spacious, adorably decorated and exceedingly comfortable to stay in. We loved the wallpaper, elaborate seating, and wooden furniture accents. Most of all we loved the huge bathtub surrounded by gorgeous green tile. The inn keeper, Jeff, offered a delicious home-made breakfast in the morning and was a joy to talk with! Are you tired of staying at hotels that nickel-and-dime you and don't care about your comfort? Ditch the hotels and stay at Nesselrod of the New, you won't regret it!

The AC unit in the first room we were in was not functional and we had to move to another room. The AC unit in the next did work but the filter and the unit was very dirty. The hair blower had hair coming out of it. There were some blinking lights in the hallway that should have been replaced (more than 1 was seen). The room over the pool and hot tub looks like it can collapse at any time. The room itself was ok other than the issues I have brought up. Breakfast was grab and go (you could not sit in the breakfast area). Breakfast consisted of yogurt, danish, breakfast burritos egg and sausage biscuits, juice and coffee. I find the issues here is most likely stemming from the potential lack of people working there as opposed to the COVID-19 Pandemic; a situation you see all over the country and not just towards Choice Hotels. Would we stay here again? It is a very convenient location off of I-81 and the room is not that bad so we would probably stay there again.

We were moving into our new home and needed just a one night stay somewhere. We picked this place…read morebecause of the hot tub and heated pool and the nearby location. Even though on several websites the description says there is a hot tub, there is only the pool. The hot tub has been filled in with concrete. The "heated" pool is a little chilly and not as clean as we had hoped for, could visibly see things floating in the pool...from a housekeepers standpoint I was disappointed in the cleanliness...the shower walls had visible grime and pink from bacteria. The bath tub was dark stains and again I'm a hotel housekeeper, there are ways to actually clean that out. The beds and linen were clean! The mattresses are severely outdated/cheap, could feel every spring in them. The lady who made the breakfast was SUPER SWEET, breakfast waffles even had options for toppings! Definitely wouldn't recommend this place, just go across the street, at least you know they would be more updated for the same price. 20 years ago I'm sure this was a nice hotel.

There is no staff that tends to the building except for The Quality Inn next door where they have one person tending to both properties. The first room they sold us was wide open when we walked up, and upon entering the room you could tell it hadn't been cleaned in a while. There was also a strange smell in the room, which come to find out was from rotting apples in the dresser drawer. The front door is not locked at night, which is a huge security flaw. Especially with no front desk clerk. Here are some other amenities that were highly undesirable in our rooms. *toilet seat was not bolted to the bowl *pillows were dingy and old *keys didn't work(we had to walk back to the other hotel 4 times to before we were given rooms that weren't repulsive) *the cups in the room had rat or insect bites in them *brown stains on the carpet *every room smelled stale and uncleaned *there appeared to be a homeless person squatting in several rooms *zero maid services *lampshades were absolutely filthy *the phones and cameras don't work *towels were dirty *they advertise breakfast but there is none, and if you go to the Quality Inn they try to charge you. These are just some of the things that we experienced. Management gets there at 9am. We went to address these things with the property manager and he was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He refused to give us his name. He was an Asian Indian fellow and claimed not to be a manager or give us refund. He finally did once I said I would get the police, BBB, health inspector, and his corporate office involved. He initially told us we should have slept outside. I will never stay at a CHOICE HOTEL property again. Don't waste your time or money here. If you check the other reviews you'll see that despite the negative reviews nothing has changed.
