Rockwood Manor - Rockwood Manor in the sunshine

Our son started at Radford University this weekend and we were looking for a place to stay. All…read morelocal hotels were price gouging with rates triple the norm. I looked into a Bed and Breakfast and found the Rockwood Manor. The price was what you would expect with no price gouging whatsoever. It turned out to be a very happy turn of events. Rockwood Manor is about a 15 minute drive from Radford university and was perfect for our needs. The Manor is on the historic register. A bit rustic on in places, it was last renovated in 2005. It is a beautiful place and our Hosts Frank and Rochelle were warm, friendly and very welcoming. We stayed in the Blakemore room. It had lots of windows which provided a nice view of the property. Our room also had a jacuzzi which we used and it was amazing after a long day on the road. The bed was a bit more firm than what we are used to at home and we recommended a mattress topper but by no means is this a negative as it is a personal preference. The linens were nice and clean and smelled fresh. We walked around the property and they looked to be all set up for wedding events. Lots of space, lots of areas for photo ops. It would be an ideal place for a wedding with room for a reception. The inside while at one point was the family home was like walking through history. We loved it. My favorite thing about the place was that I felt at home. Frank and and Rochelle are wonderful hosts. The breakfast the next morning was great with options for everyone. They also set the food up buffet style which made me feel like I was at a big family breakfast :) The only suggestion I would have is for our hosts to look into some professional rug cleaning. There were a couple of stains in the rug under the table in our room would need professional stain removal to get out. This place is one of the best B&Bs my wife and I have ever visited. We loved it!!!

The grounds and the home are wonderful. The house is full of the history of the home, American values and beautifully addressed for the Christmas season. The services, food and amenities cannot be beat in a surreal time setting in America's past. Christy was wonderful; she reached out to ensure we could gain access, answers questions and prepared our breakfast the next morning. She is the best and should be acknowledged for her spirit of excellent service. Rockwood Manor also has a Hokie room in the basement, I am sure it was in tribute to my son's graduation. Rockwood Manor is the best of the best!

They have a little convenience shop to the left of the desk filled with snacks and, luckily, floaties for the pool. The front desk ladies were polite and friendly! We stayed here twice, in the same room actually. It had 2 queen beds, a pull out couch, mini fridge, desk area, and a decently sized bathroom. Our party consisted of 2 adults and 2 children and we had more than enough room. The bathroom was stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, all in refillable pump bottles. The sink also had hand wash and body lotion. The pool area was kept clean and the staff said we could eat in there at the tables if we wanted. It wasn't a huge area, but there were at least 2 tables and several options for seating. The pool only went to 5 feet and had decent stairs for my toddler in the shallow end. There was also a small gym, complete with some dumbbells, an adjustable bench, treadmill, elliptical, and star stepper, plus a yoga mat and exercise ball. There was a small cabinet which held towels, wipes, and a water dispenser/cups. The only bummer was I saw the same dead moth under the elliptical both stays (2 weeks apart), so I know the gym hadn't been cleaned. Breakfast was decent-- it was the same both both times we had it. They have 3 cereal options, some yogurt and oatmeal, fresh fruit (apples, oranges, and bananas), two types of eggs, sausage, bacon, toast (even a GF bread), bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls, and a pancake maker. There was also coffee and tea. Everything was served until 9:30. There is always water with fresh fruit out. We ate at two nearby restaurants-- Fat Boy's Pizza and Cinco de Mayo Mexican and both were great! There is also a restaurant list inside the lobby. I felt safe staying here and had no issues in the parking lot. There were only a few other guests during both of our stays. This was a good spot to stay during our travels and I will definitely consider coming back!

My family & I were there for almost 6 months- the first few months we were there the property managers were very friendly, and helpful. The rooms are equipped with a small kitchen, it reminds me of a studio apartment. During our stay there several different altercations took place on the premises between other people who were staying there and management. Drugs are VERY prevalent at this establishment, and are effecting the way this business is being ran. There is a noticeable change in the management and the way things are being done at this establishment. The rooms are not being cleaned well, and there are roaches in several of the rooms. During our stay there we were given linen upon check in- never again after that. There were burn holes & stains on the flat sheets we were given. The mattresses were gross, no mattress protector- I had to purchase my own. We were given tissues on occasion, but never toilet paper or other essentials that most motels would provide and are included in the room rates. There is no housekeeping on a day to day basis. The cleaning supplies that are provided, such as a vacuum or carpet cleaner are not cleaned and covered in filth. The washer & dryers that are paid for do not work, and the ones that are there for use of the property managers are only used by a select few people who are allowed. There are SEVERAL dogs here. Most defaecate all over the parking lot, and on the walkway that is upstairs. Overall this was not a positive experience and I'd strongly encourage you to look elsewhere to stay if you are able. The drugs and attitudes run rampant there. The managers are delusional and make up their own rules, and ways to charge people for rooms. (Such as if two working men are staying in the same room, they both have to pay rent rate, it cannot just be one of them at one rate) the door locks are not secure & someone can easily card your door. There were several occasions people were entering rooms they had no business being in, or had not given notice to go into. Hope this gives some insight and someone finds it helpful!

I posted this on google, and feel the need to do so here as well, given that it seems like this…read morelocation has fixed a lot of issues that I see have plagued others. Without further ado, here we go! I made a reservation for this location a few weeks ago, and stayed there last night as a little mini vacation with the little woman. We rented a king suite with a hot tub in the room, and while I don't think we opted for the jetted tub upgrade, we had one nonetheless (possible upgrade)? We ended up in room 109, for what it's worth. I had done a deep dive into reviews the day before we left for our stay and was inundated by a slew of negative reviews that had me a bit concerned right off the bat. As it turns out, in our case at least, those concerns were entirely unfounded. So, let's start off with the not-so-great bits. The light fixture in the bathroom was a bit wonky, and the vent fan in both the bathroom, and main area above the jacuzzi tub were both quite dusty. There were some scuffs on the walls, some burn marks on the tabletops, and no iron in the room. All in all, these were very minor issues that were essentially just cosmetic, and very easily overlooked. The hallway smelled somewhat like several people had been cooking a few different meals and wasn't pleasant, but wasn't overpowering either. As others have mentioned, the side door was not locked, but honestly, that's not really something that bothers me, as on most hotels, the side doors aren't really anything that's keeping out anyone who is serious about getting in. That said, the good parts were shockingly good. The room was incredibly clean, the linens were incredibly clean, and the room itself had a mild scent that reminded me a bit of lemongrass (likely owing to the soaps and such they provide having that particular scent). The AC/Heat unit looked like it might have been installed 5 minutes before we got there. It quite literally looked brand new, and worked amazingly well. The hot water was quite hot, the cold water was quite cold. The jacuzzi tub worked exactly as one would expect, and the TV, while a little bit low, worked just fine. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows a little soft for my taste, but also comfortable to sleep on. There was more lighting (both lamps and ceiling) in this room than I am used to in a hotel room, which I really enjoyed. The door latched easily, had a deadbolt, as well as a swinging lock which made everything feel quite secure. Plenty of toiletries, 4 sets of towels/hand towels/washcloths, and 2 bathmats. Both tubs/shower were clean and there was good water pressure, too. As to the service... I did not catch the lady's name that was working the desk, but she was very polite, very friendly, and very kind. She was quite pleasant to talk to, and got me checked in, and out very efficiently. On top of that, a few minutes before checkout, she personally came to the room to see if we would be staying an additional night, or would be checking out that morning. We were just about to head out the door at that point, but I was pleased to have the reminder, too. All in all, I was incredibly impressed with this location and I will absolutely be staying here again. The location right off the interstate, the value, and the service are all very much worth it, and I can't recommend this location highly enough.
