My only complaint is that it's SO juicy that the buns get soggy. Would I go back? Yes. Would I live there if they let me sleep in the sauce pantry? Also yes. I realized, I'm always rating spots across the country, but what about the spots in my own neighborhood?? Well, cheers to one of my faves! Today, is was a regular for me, the Steak Fajita Pita with fried okra on the side. It ain't never been bad. I will say I've eaten so many I've gotten sick! Their delicious. A fine southern twist on something that ain't souther, but it's cheesy, and juicy, and seasoned well. Of course the fried okra is good. As a side, my next best favorite is the large pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast topped with cole slaw. It's messy but scrumptious! The pulled chicken instead of pork is good, but ask for extra sauce! Their plates are tasty. Their fried catfish is pretty good as well. They are also in the top running for best sweet tea in town. Now, the call-in can be iffy. They may put you on hold for five mins, but hang in there. Also, double check your bags, as I've had a missing something or another from time to time. I really love good barbecue and this place used to be popping. The food is still good but the condiments are so nasty. I really wish they would clean better and sanitize their containers. The crusty sauce and empty ketchup just drew the line for me. They could use some wood paper towel holders for the tables too. The paper towels just sit on the tables where people pick them up with their nasty hands. Yuck. The employees never greeted me as they were counting cash on the food counter. Excellent customer service! Delicious BBQ, Memphis style barbecue sauce, and many options for sides. Besides being known for their barbecue they have a nice sized menu with several other soul food type options. Everything I have ever had here is delicious! We prefer their barbecue here because they use a sweet barbecue sauce and some of the other local places use more of a North Carolina vinegar based sauce. Honestly? Save your money and time and go over to the original Little Dooey in Starkville. They have decent food here yes. Most of the staff is high schoolers or super young. I always feel like I'm met with "uhhh..." when I order anything. The inside itself just makes you feel sticky. The tables are sticky, the condiments sticky. This place is a gem. The food was so delicious and the service was fast. I am from Texas so naturally I am defensive over BBQ but this place surpassed my expectations. The food was fresh and flavorful. The housemade sauce was the perfect blend of sweet and spiced. I got pulled pork which was tender and flavorful, some fresh and sweet coleslaw, and mac and cheese with a great consistency and not too heavy. The Texas toast was like garlic bread but I would have to say it was a delicious change from the plain Texas toast I've gotten in Texas. This place used to be great. But, the current crew doesnt have a clue what they're doing! Yesterday, I sat in there waiting for 45 minutes for a to-go order. I should've just asked for my money back and left at the half hour mark... Everything was cold, except one pork sandwich. Broccoli bites, fried okra, waffle fries, onion straws, burger, and fried shrimp, were all VERY cold. That's not how you expedite an order... I have a lot of kitchen experience. And, its not difficult to ensure that everything on an order goes out hot, if you're putting forth effort. When I called to let them know that everything was cold, they wanted me to bring it all back to get a refund... I felt that was absurd, considering they had already wasted nearly an hour of my day. Beans were good but they were served very hot which made them even better. The pulled pork was very moist and very good. I tried three different sauces. The vinegar sauce was in my opinion disgusting. The hot BBQ sauce was very hot, but it only tasted like it was supposed to be hot. It didn't taste like anything but spicy to me. The mild BBQ sauce was very good. Service was exceptional. The only mistake was I was given sweet tea instead of unsweet but the sweet was good so I drank it anyway. I highly recommend. They do have a good vinegar sauce. When I am on a diet I go here to get a smoked chicken salad with no dressing and I put the vinegar sauce on it. I keep several bottles of the vinegar sauce on hand at home. The fried catfish is sometimes decent, but inconsistent. When the tail is curling up on your catfish fillet, it has been overcooked and is probably too thin a cut. BBQ is my favorite food. This is not good bbq. The pulled pork is dry. The ribs are mediocre, never very meaty. The ribs at Hank's are much better. The pulled pork is better from local roadside stands. I hear that the Starkville location is better. Ok so I have been here 3 times and have been equally impressed every time. Tonight I tried the catfish and shrimp plate with Potato Salad and a side of Okra. Perfection, the shrimp are freshly breaded and cooked just right. The okra was fresh and the seeds were like you just snapped it off the plant. Friendly staff and a really great relaxed setting, this place is what is referred to when people say we are losing the regional gems to corporate food chains. While visiting my brother at the Air Force base, we stopped into this place for a quick bite. This is exactly the kind of place I look for when I'm traveling. It had good food and a nice local flare to it. Don't waste your time with the chains, go to Little Dooey's. I'm a Northerner, so I can't really speak to the subtleties of Cajun spices, but we liked both the pulled pork platter and the fried catfish. The baked beans were excellent, as we were told before visiting. Waffle fries are a plus. I am from Alabama and took my mom there (Columbus, Ms.) for lunch when I was visiting. The fried green tomatoes are freshly made! My mother ate "Chicken on a Stick" and loved it. My daughter raved about the fried pickles. It was clean and the food was plenty. What struck me the most was the young lady taking the orders. She was polite and friendly to everyone who came in the door. Upon hearing that our community was impacted by April's tormadoes she wne to ther car and gave me a new car seat so I could find a family who needed it. No questions asked.
