I just love the way this place looks. I don't know what I was expecting walking in a "liquor store" for the first time for lunch, but a Miami, Florida coffee shop/diner feel was not it, but it works great and looks so nice. We were greeted immediately and sat right away. Our server was very nice and attentive. The food was pretty good. I'd like to come back and try other sandwiches. I had the patty melt and it had a lot of flavor. The sauce in it is pretty good. I wasn't a fan of the seasoning on the fries. They were cooked well, but pretty salty and overwhelming. They had like a chili lime taste. Next time I'll omit the seasoning. My oldest son had the New York chopped cheese. He liked it, but I tried it and preferred the patty melt flavors over that one. I'll definitely have to get some breakfast items next time because the pancake and cheesy eggs were amazing for being so simple. The bacon was over cooked. I came to the Liquor Store but didn't have any drinks (except for coffee). We were here the morning after a snow storm so the restaurant was pretty quiet. The bartender told us to pick a seat and it took a bit for a server to bring us menus, but the server was very attentive throughout the meal. Breakfast Burger (7/10) - The bun is fairly thin and was a little burnt but the patty was delicious and there was TONS of cheese! The composition and flavors of the plates were very close to an authentic experience. The service is top notch. The seating is limited and the space is a bit cramped. I decided to visit The Liquor Store for breakfast. We stopped by as soon as they opened and because of that, we were able to get seated right away. I absolutely loved the over-the-top holiday decorations throughout the restaurant. I decided to try the steak and eggs and my husband tried the pancakes. The steak had good flavor and was seasoned well, but unfortunately, the texture was not the best since it was overcooked. (Ordered a medium steak, but it was well-done) My husband ordered the pancakes and they were huge. They were literally the same size as the plate they came on. I'm actually glad that I passed on them because the pancakes were just a large stack of flour...They were tasteless. There was not enough syrup in the world for those cakes! On arrival we were greeted and told it would be about a 30 min wait and was told about a back bar we could wait at (even though there were multiple tables open). So we went around back and got a couple bloody mary's which were decent. When they called us for our table (which is a great feature), we were asked whether we wanted the bar or a window seat. The gravy on the biscuits was delicious but there were WAY too many biscuits and not enough gravy. They really should do twice the gravy and half the biscuits. Food was overall average. Cocktails: we got the side car (8/10) and espresso martini (10/10). The espresso martini was the winner of the meal!!! Service: Staff was 5 stars. Overall friendly and attentive. Service was definitely slower than most places, especially when it came to the food. For 2 meals and 3 cocktails it was almost $80. That's one pricey brunch. Overall: I don't know if I would go back. The Liquor Store has been near the top of my Memphis restaurant bucket list for months. Given its popularity and smaller size, I knew our wait might be long, so I wasn't surprised when the hostess told us it would be an hour. But thankfully, it turned out to only be about 20 minutes. We started with an order of the biscuit beignets, which was hands down the highlight of the meal. While they're made of fried biscuit dough, from a texture and consistency standpoint, they seemed more like sweet hushpuppies (which I love). They aren't the easiest to eat since the coating is so dense and crispy, so proceed with caution if using a fork and knife so that your beignet isn't launched across the table. But the inside of each beignet was soft, fluffy and warm. I easily could've eaten an entire order myself. For my entree, after much deliberation, I ordered the Pancake Stack -- two massive pancakes served with two eggs and a breakfast meat, which I substituted for a biscuit (which was also massive). The pancakes tasted like they were griddled in bacon fat, the flavor of which overpowered any flavor the pancake had. As someone who admittedly doesn't like bacon, it rendered the pancakes almost inedible. I struggled to finish half of one. I've eaten pancakes all over the country and have never had one taste like bacon grease -- maybe the griddle needed cleaning? The biscuit was good (again, massive) with a slightly crusty outer shell but soft and fluffy on the inside. The scrambled eggs were fairly standard -- they were fine. I loved the interior of the restaurant which was decorated for the holiday season. The service was decent but rather slow. This definitely isn't a place for a quick lunch. Overall, aside from the biscuit beignets, I wasn't blown away by my food. A lot of the other items on the menu sounded delicious, but if they're cooked on the same griddle as the pancakes, I worry that they too might be overpowered by the taste of bacon fat. I won't rush back anytime soon, but I would certainly be willing to give The Liquor Store another shot, no pun intended. read more

The pancakes are the best in Memphis. They taste like cake. You don't even need syrup they are so delicious. Portions are enormous. The servers are very attentive and friendly and accommodating.
