This long time business in the area is under new ownership, so if you travel from other areas on…read morethe Cape to shop in a "warehouse" setting, or you visit for the summer.....just realize that the helpful long time staff that used to be there are gone, the selection of wines is really confusing now (because they aren't "grouped" the way they used to be), and beer selection is reduced. Dont bother asking for help looking for a particular item. I did and got a blank stare. I tried to find it myself but gave up. The woman at the register was slow and seemed to have trouble counting change (she miscounted twice (the bills)). I asked her also about the wine I was looking for and she shook her head, not speaking either. FYI, this was a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, not some speciality French or Italian wine! FYI, the prices have increased as well. Plenty of other businesses to support...one right on Main Street, smaller store, yes but with great stock and helpful! So sorry to see this change. I'm not patronizing anymore and from what I've seen in the parking lot driving by, others are feeling the same way. The review that says "they will be able to meet all your needs" must have been written by the new owners. They sure didn't for me.

Not divey, but you walk in and you're basically at the bar. There's bar seating, a few tables on the side, a few in the back. People were eating and drinking wherever. Service: Prompt, friendly. The bartender was the owner, chatting with a local about working where he lives and drinking while he works. But very friendly and open to visitors here. And no overwhelming Boston accent. If you're not local, you'll do fine. Food: OK, I was here on an impulse search for dessert. They happened to have fresh homemade donut holes to go, so I got some cinnamon dusted. And by dusted, I mean WHOA NELLY that's a lot! And the donut holes were also huge. And they came with warm caramel dipping sauce. I couldn't put it down. While I was waiting (again, didn't take long, they were just shaking the topping on in the back), I looked over and saw bar pies that honestly? To this North Jerseyan? Looked like good tasty pizza. In Massachusetts. You have been warned. If you stay on Route 25 to bypass Bourne on your way to or from the bridges, you're not just adding mileage to your car to save a little time. You're missing out on the best place in a country mile.

Not only is the setting home-y, but the staff is all very kind and quick to greet guests. The good old home feel doesn't stop with the setting or service, but it carries through to the food as well. The food comes out looking like a true, delicious, home-cooked meal with the flavor to back it up! For an appetizer I ordered the Charlie's Chowder, which is the best chowder I've ever had, in New England or otherwise. It comes packed with scallops, lobster, and cod, and is absolutely to die for. For my main course, I ordered the Lemon Caper Cod, which was also wonderful. The piece of cod is huge, and is served with a bed of rice, seasonal veggies (mine were carrots) and, of course, capers. The fish was tender and cooked to perfection and, while I'm not typically a huge carrot fan, the steamed carrots they made were sweet and tasty! If I knew how they make them I'd become a much bigger fan of carrots. From start to finish, everything about this place is top notch! A definite must try!

My experience here was one that will keep me from ever returning. My friends came by this place to pick up a few beers, while one of us stayed behind in the car. At the register, one of the female workers was standing there with her hands on her hips. "If you're going to buy liquor from my store, I better see the ID of your little friend there", gesturing to the car. Ok, no big deal right? We understand the rules, we've been to a liquor store before and understand they get stung all the time. My friend explained that the friend in the car recently had her car broken into, and currently had only a paper license. He offered to go get it, but instead the owner's attitude became sour. "If you're going to give me an attitude, there's another liquor store just a mile down the road." At that point, our jaws kind of dropped, and the did-i-say-something-wrong feeling spread. My friend just left the store, presumably to get our friend from the car, so the rest of us waited behind for him. But instead, she turned to us, gave us the most skull-scorching look, and said "And since your friend gave me an attitude and decided to slam the door (PS: the door is one of those automated doors with the hinge on top that.. can't...be...slammed), I choose not to serve you." So we just put down our beer and left in silence. I really have no idea what was up her arse, but it certainly was poor service and overreaction.
