I'm going to give The Links at Challedon 4 Stars intending to begin a trend and elevate their average rating. I played a round of golf with friends and I found the course to be above average and quite beautiful. Though the starter did warn us that a tournament of the plumbers union had played the previous day leaving the greens repleat with unrepaired ball marks and several golf carts battered. We repaired what we could within reason and were able to play without any Ill effect. The seventh tee had a menu, to call in your order, the menu included hotdogs and sausages, but they were out of sausages. As a hungry golfer, I must say that it was difficult to excuse this offense, but the hotdogs were pretty good. After we completed our round, we had lunch in the restaurant. I had the spicy salmon with avocado and my friends had a couple of versions of the chicken wings. We all enjoyed our meals. Service at every turn was pleasant and professional. I recommend this golf course and restaurant. read more

Just want to start off by saying the guys in the clubhouse and the starter are super friendly and the best part about this place is. Overall the course is 7/10 imo . For the 90 dollar weekend price I personally feel it's about 15 dollars over priced for the conditions of the course. Service in the bar/restaurant it's terrible , and the food is ok . If it's your first time coming here to play golf and you've never played before it's definitely worth it to try a new course , but overall it's overpriced ,and they need better course maintenance. The James Way Classic - ESTD 2006 A Grateful Thank You to The Links at Challedon This past Saturday, May 3, 2025, marked the 19th year of hosting The James Way Classic, our annual charity golf tournament in memory of my brother. For the first time in its history, we held the tournament at The Links at Challedon, and I can confidently say--after 19 straight sold-out years with over 150 participants--this was the best experience we've ever had. This is the third venue we've hosted at, and until now, I didn't truly realize how much we had been missing. While other courses have been "fine," and the tournament always goes well, things had become routine. But from the moment I first connected with John Weaver, Challedon's Director of Events, I knew this year was going to be different. John was genuinely excited and honored to host the event--something that was clear from day one. He took the time to meet face-to-face and meticulously go over every detail. His communication and professionalism in the weeks leading up to the event were flawless. On the day of the tournament, it became clear just how well-prepared and committed the entire Challedon staff was to making our day memorable. From the large, shaded outdoor check-in area, to the friendly bar and restaurant staff, to the spacious banquet hall for our dinner and awards ceremony--every aspect of the venue exceeded expectations. The course itself was in excellent condition and was a perfect fit for our group's size and mixed skill levels. The layout encouraged interaction without slowing pace of play, which was a huge bonus. And the food... wow. We chose the in-house BBQ buffet, and it was absolutely incredible--pulled pork, bone-in BBQ chicken, pit beef, and a wide array of fresh, homemade sides. Everyone was raving about it. What truly set this year apart, however, wasn't just the great facilities or the food--it was the people. Every single person at Challedon had a positive attitude, was willing to help, and made our group feel genuinely welcome. That's something you can't fake, and something you don't often find. To John and the entire team at The Links at Challedon: thank you. You didn't just host our event--you enhanced the legacy of The James Way Classic. My friends, family, and I are sincerely grateful. I find the entire staff, from the general manager to the food service, to the tee time coordinator, to the starter and all the supporting staff to be very friendly, competent, and eager to please. The dining service and food quality to always exceed my expectations. I would recommend Links at Challedon to anyone looking for a great experience, both playing golf and dining. read more

2.5 stars. Played there for the first time on August 8, 2020, which puts us right in the middle of the pandemic. So let me break this review into two parts: the course, and the precautions. The course: Overall, not bad. The layout is interesting, and the first three holes are quite the challenge. Tighter holes with OB left and right on each. That's a rough start if you're not hitting it straight. There are some easy holes and short par 4s, and there are some tough and long par 3s and 5s. I liked the mix. There were some issues. The primary was the length of the grass. The course badly needed to be mowed. The fairways were much longer than they should have been, and the greens were VERY shaggy, resulting in really slow putting conditions. That said, there was likely a lot of rain in that area recently, and that may have prevented them from mowing. Bunkers were not great, particularly on the front side. The sand was more coarse, and not much of it. Seems like there was maybe a 1/4 inch of sand before reaching the hardpan underneath. And there were numerous bunkers with sizable rocks in them. That's not great. The tee boxes were meh at best. Some were very nice, maybe seeded with zoysia? But others were overrun with crabgrass, and others with a mix of crabgrass and dirt, moreso on the backside. The precautions: TERRIBLE. Absolutely terrible. And by terrible, I mean completely non-existent. The starter literally said to me, "Feel free to take out the flags if you want." On course, I saw rakes in most bunkers, no barriers (inverted cups, pool noodles, etc.) in the holes forcing you to reach into an area everyone else has had to reach into, and water coolers set up on several holes. Obviously, you can easily not use the water coolers, but why are they out there anyway?! Given these extremely lax conditions, I am unconvinced that they are adequately cleaning the carts between uses. Overall, I thought the course was ok, and I may play it again. But that will be long after this pandemic ends. I cannot get over the laissez-faire approach they took. 100% unacceptable. read more

Great food and view! Location: we went April 2018, the weather was great so we sat outside. the view was absolutely amazing and serene. You can see the golfer's practicing, the beautiful green grass goes miles away was just amazing to look. Food: Ordered crab cakes... it was good. The price is affordable... Thank you mucho! Terrible service and experience. 1- three employees present. Bartender was helping out a customer. Two others just stood there and ignored me while hanging out at the bar when I came in to see the menu and check out the establishment for the first time... four people in the whole place.... 2- brought my family in an hour later and waited to be seated as their sign said, same two employees were too busy sitting down hanging out with their friends at a table to acknowledge we were even there. We had to approach them to ask about seating 3- same treatment after we ordered beverages. Too busy BSing with friends to get drinks to the table... Including my family of 4.... There were a grand total of 10 people seated... Won't go again. read more

Played Challedon this weekend. Course was in solid shape. The restaurant has really upped it's game. The staff was very attentive and our server Emily was outstanding. Our Group all had burgers. They were not your ordinary club house burgers. Everyone ordered a different variation and all had the same reaction "that is a tasty burger". We had mozzarella sticks as an app and they did not come out of a box. Our server told us they were made in house. Those were also delicious. Great Job!!! read more

I came to the course with a golfnow.com tee time and pulled up to the bag drop and starter. As I came out of the car, I was approached by the starter as if I needed a reservation to stop. "Tee time, sir?" I calmly gave him my confirmation and continued about my business. After looking at my name, he said he doesn't have me down with the group at my tee time. I told him I purchased it online and that I was a single. He agreed and said my time was now confirmed. I parked my car and entered the clubhouse. The lady at the register was nice. So far, this place was 50-50. I got my cart and went out to the range. I love places that have free range balls. They were scattered on the practice green, around the chipping green, and near the bunker. I spent about 20 minutes hitting bunker shots and decided that since there were about 30 mins left until my tee time, I would work on irons and driver. There were large buckets of balls ready to be hit and the range was flat and true. Two swings in, I hear the starter on the loudspeaker say my last name. "No way, I thought. I know it's hard to pronounce but I still have 15 minutes." Nope. As I hit my third iron shot and watch it sail off into the range, I hear a voice behind me. "Okay that's enough of that, let's go!" I got back into my cart and followed him to the first tee area. "I thought I'd get you out early," he goes. Thanks for nothing. When I am in the mindset of golfing, I work on a schedule. He already threw me off. Ah, the course. What can I say? The course was the best part of the day (and I haven't even told you the worst). The tee boxes were flat, the fairways were gorgeously mowed, the greens were soft and had true roll. THe hardest thing about these greens were that they moved. A lot. Boy, you really had to hit a 3-foot put to avoid the ball lipping out on some of them. Made for a lot of 2 and 3-putts that day. The course was in great shape, the pace of play was good. The man I was paired up with had a lot to talk about and I enjoyed my time out. Halfway through, I stopped at the clubhouse because I was starving. I was trying to piece together an inexpensive meal and my eyes gravitated towards the lunch box special. ham or turkey sub, chips, cookie, and a drink for $7. I'm in. The sub was turkey meat and american singles on a white roll that was saran-wrapped up and well refrigerated. After undoing the wrapping, I went to the condiments and dressed it in ketchup, mayo, relish, and onions. By hole 14 I had finished eating. By 16 I had a headache. By the time I was driving home, it was a massive headache. By the time I got to my couch, I had food poisoning. I wasn't the same the rest of the day and a lot of what I ate came up (sorry for the image). This was the first time I had food poisoning in over 5 years and I eat out a lot. I was very disappointed and this tainted the image of the course for me. Sometimes it's not all about the ball, grass, and the hole. The course was nice, the experience (as a first time player) was devastating. +1 star for me enjoying the course. Will I be coming back? Can't say I'm banking on it. read more

This course has really gone downhill over the years, and certainly has since Vitaliy's experience last year. I'm not sure who they are a part of these days. They were part of the Casper Golf management, then they were a part of the Raspberry Golf Trail, now I don't know. In any case, the conditions of the course have definitely dropped over the past few years. I'm not even sure what is the front 9 and what is the back 9 because they changed nines a few years ago, but they will still send you out on #10 or is #1 or is it old #1. Whatever. Just be prepared to see every single tee box covered in crabgrass, weeds and sandy dirt. Not a speck of actual grass to be found. The rough is exceptionally thick, so thick that you can lose your ball in the rough because your ball can and will disappear in the length of the rough. The fairways are in decent shape, but the greens are all chewed up. People refuse to fix their ball marks, leaving gaping sandy holes on the greens. The bunkers...wow. More like clay rock pits. I guess it is my fault for landing in them, huh? In terms of the layout, it is an interesting course. Most of the holes have a nice feel to them, especially the ones on the front 9 (I think). The back 9 is the one that starts with a par 5 that zig-zags along its way to the green. The back 9 is much duller than the front. Given the conditions that the course is in this year, I cannot see how they are charging $49 on weekdays, $55 on Friday, $69 on weekends. There is no way they can be charging the same fees as the Woodlands! Luckily, I had a coupon for $39 on a Tuesday, but even with that, I felt like I was being ripped off. I don't mind paying more for a good course in good condition. Challedon isn't it. I won't be going back any time soon. read more

Booked a tee time for myself and 3 friends for 8 July a week early. Was surprised and disappointed that instead of holding my tee time reservation with a credit card the course charged my card a week before the scheduled time. One of my friends had a complimentary round pass. After discovering my card had been charged I called the shop and explained that there was a complimentary round involved. The shop assistant assured me that upon presentation of the pass my card would be credited for that round. When I checked in on 8 July the course refused to credit my account and instead have me a rain check. The shop assistant either lied to me or is not trained properly. Which is it? read more

I fell in absolute love with this course today. It's a shot makers course, so never very long. Very storable, as long as you keep it in the short grass. First time through was challenging at times simply because I didn't know the layout; but I can't wait to go again and shoot lower. Great value for a beautiful course. Cheers! read more

Played Friday morning for $62 after taxes. Course is in good shape in my opinion. Greens were in great shape and challenging. Speed changed quite a bit from our early morning tee time. Fairways were fairly lush and could be much better if everyone took the time to fill their divots. Hate lazy golfers. They are the first to complain about the shape of a course, but the last to take care of their mess. Pace of play was good, except for the foursome behind us when I blew up on a par three. Sorry gentlemen. The staff were pretty friendly as well. I don't get nearly enough time to play, but will definitely make my way back here this year. Give them a try. read more

I just received an email from The Links at Challedon to play this Sunday, 8/29. Huh? Our club had a tournament scheduled for Sunday, 9/5 but the course sent me an email yesterday that they canceled our 6 tee times! Now they expect me to come back? This is after we've played tournaments there several years in a row. Their reason was that we need to prepay all tee times in advance, which they never gave us the opportunity to do. Even so, no other course has expected us to do that and if we aren't able to fill all spots, we always notify the course well in advance. We won't be returning to Challedon in the future. I have hosted 2 different corporate events at the Links at Challedon (one in 2019 and one in 2021) and the location is nothing short of stunning. Although it wasn't a wedding, my event hosted 175+ people on both occasions for a full golf tournament followed by a wonderful meal and meeting. The course is in pristine condition and lovely to visit and roam by golf cart. Over the last few years they have made significant upgrades to the inside dining areas, pro shop, and even restrooms. The outdoor tent was recently strung with new lights that give any event that pretty lighting that you are looking for when WOW-ing your guests. Their stone patio is the perfect place for photos and their food is unbelievable. Our favorite is the shaved roast beef with MD crab cakes. They are quick to support when you are in need of help pre, during and post event and I trust their years of experience when planning. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone planing an event, regardless of size, and I would tell any bride to trust them with your most special day. read more

I recently played The Links at Challedon and after reading the previous reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. The staff was courteous and helpful and overall, the course was very enjoyable. The tee boxes were in fine and the fairways were well manicured with few divot left unrepaired even though the course received a significant amount of rain the night prior. I found the roughs to be a bit challenging and but more importantly, consistent. The sand traps drained well and had plenty of sand to hit through. The greens were somewhat challenging due to the undulations and they consistently rolled about an 8-9 on the stimpmeter. I would definitely play this course again. read more

NEVER EVER again. This place is only interested in grabbing your money and could care less about the experience. My golf club book 6 tee times around or about in February 2021 for a golf tournament on September 5, 2021. On August 25, 2021 we received an e-mail cancelling our 6 tee times with no explanation given. The e-mail said to call if you think this e-mail was sent in error...so I called. I was told that they booked a larger group over us and that the head pro was not due in for 30 minutes and would call me right back.....bullcrap, I had to call them back almost 2 hours later and they said he was not there, would I like to speak to the GM instead. Sure, he was as helpful as a case of the flu 2 days before going on vacation. Attitude was that he could care less and miraculously found the pro. Now I'm talking to KRIS Gooding.....whatever you do don't spell it with a "C" or you get a strike against you. He made sure I knew it was CHRIS with a K. I explain the situation and that this tournament was scheduled months ago and all things were worked out, including price, amount of tee times and that all golfers would pay individually and agreed upon. Well not any longer, their word is worthless and they make the rules as they go. I was told by KRIS with a K that he agreed that each golf would pay upon arrival and he claimed that was a mistake and went on to pretty much say that everyone has to pay in advance and that rule has been in effect since covid. His attitude was we want your money and could care less about the lack of customer service or customer satisfaction. He then went into the "we can reschedule" you. NOOOOO, you can reschedule the larger group and all I could hear was him snickering and laughing.....guess he doesn't know how to cover the mouthpiece of the phone when laughing at you. Did things get heated on my part?.....sure did, I'll admit it, Especially after he (Kris with a K) didn't deny laughing at me and their mistake. He pretty much said that they want your money first and then you can play, if you don't show up we are keeping it and you loose. The best part was I told Kris with a K that I would be reviewing them on YELP and he told me "so what" I'll just make comments" after it posts. I told him go ahead and I'll comment after he does. This guy, Kris with a K is an arrogant ass who could care less about promises made and agreements between men. When taking to him he tries to cut in, doesn't listen and pretty much doesn't care about your opinion, your prior conversations with staff and pretty much about your desire to play the course. In fact...no one that I talked to really cared and I talked with 3 different people. I just read the other reviews and now I see that they are not thought of too highly at The Links at Challedon. Hey Mr. Owner....time to replace Kris......with a K. We used to play there yearly with our club but no longer......we can schedule other more accommondating courses where they love having small outings that they don't have to do anything other than book it. read more

Living in Baltimore City makes it tough to find a good course. Links at Challedon provides one of the best overall experiences in the area. I particularly like the course because of how it plays. If you are frequent golfer it challenges you and forces you to challenge your strategic acumen. If you are a novice golfer, it is forgiving enough to allow you to last 18. The course is always in good condition and well kept. The best part is the people; the starter is always extremely friendly and makes sure you get out on time. Every staff member I've come across has given top notch customer service. I will say Challedon is my preferred course to take fellow golfers, and I am certain they would echo my sentiments. read more

It was shocking that on August 31, 2019 with sunny conditions and warm temperatures that, except for one water station, the drinking coolers on the course were completely empty. I have never played a course that offers on course drinking water to fail so completely to maintain this offering, especially given the very fact that I have played there for years and had a reasonable expectation that on-course water would be available. And not once did we get served by an on-course drink cart (Saturday afternoon on a summer day!). The upkeep of the course is slipping as it appears course management is spending resources on its restaurant business at the expense of course maintenance. Should this trend continue, in the near term this course will be such that it cannot be recommended. read more

Went in for carryout a couple weeks ago. Absolutely terrible. Waited for my food & once I got home - food was ice cold & entirely unappetizing. I don't come there often, but always seem to be disappointed when I do make it in there. This will be the last time. When I came in to pick up, I think it was the manager sitting at the bar on her computer, very grumpy and complaining about her job. Also heavily vaping. 10/10 would recommend going anywhere else for golf or food. read more

First time playing here after reading positive online reviews. I knew that the greens were aerated at the beginning of August so waited a few weeks before booking tee times. We were not disappointed. What a beautifully landscaped course! Pace of play was good. Overall course condition was super, well manicured. The greens were good, still a little slow from aeration. Would be even better if golfers would repair their divots properly. We will definitely take the hour long drive to The Links at Challedon soon. It's a challenging but doable course for all handicaps. read more

Big fan of this place for a bunch of reasons, but I'll name a few here. The staff is second to none. From the General Manager all the way to the 16 year old cart kids Challedon puts a big emphasis on the customer's experience, and it shows. Many people will here about the layout and conditions which provide a fun experience for golfers of all abilities, but a more well kept secret is the food at this place! Chef Patrick is always serving up barbecue, pizza, and other food that really puts this place over the edge. And that's just on a normal day. Come Friday you have even more barbecue options, then on Saturdays you're in for an extended menu (think steak and all things good in the world) and live music. If you're looking to golf, eat, drink, or do all at once, you have to come check this place out! read more

Course was in pretty good shape. However, I arrived at the course to pay for my round only to find out that my credit card had been charged for my entire foursome! I've never seen a course do this. So now I was left with collecting course fees from my other 3 playing partners non of which knew to bring cash. To make matters worse I had a coupon book which entitled me to $25 off per player. They told me that if you book a round online that you couldn't use the coupon and that they only honor the coupon for walk-ons. WHAT!? When has a FOURSOME ever just walked on to a course? They didn't even give a hint of trying to accommodate me for their stupid policies which thy never made clear from the outset. Bottom line: If you have the opportunity to play somewhere else...do it! And if you do have to play here make sure you do not book through their website since they give you no incentive to do so. Me and my foursome will take our weekly outings elsewhere. read more

Played in the Saturday night Couples League (6/4/17) and stayed for dinner and entertainment. The course is in fine shape. Many of the traps have been reworked, the greens are great and the fairways as good as always. Then we had dinner. Wow, salmon and filet mignon were done to perfection. Service was friendly and quick, wine was wonderful while the outside seating with live music on the patio completed the ambiance. If there were grape vines growing on the slopes above the putting green I would have thought I was back in Sonoma County. Nice job everyone at Challedon. read more

Not a very good course considering the price. We did 9 holes, the greens were torn up, we were golfing on top of one another (and that was with only the two of us) since they didn't space us out very well. Not recommended for a fun day. read more

This course is in horrible condition. Do waste your money. Its definitely not worth the 69.00 green fees for this course. Covered in crabgrass in fairways and all around the apron of the greens and ball marks all throughout the greens. Tee boxes littered with divots. If anyone mentioned to play this course I would recommend passingvwhichbis a shame because this use to be a nice course. I will post pictures so you can see for yourself.
