In my opinion this is a good course for those that are still learning to play or for those that are looking to play 9 holes and not spend a lot of money. Played in November on a late Saturday morning and we're talking $33/person including the cart. I will admit that the pace of play is a bit slower. Also battled some geese along the way. There's not a lot of hazards, fairways are a bit close together so you may so people in your fairway that are on the next hole. 7 par 4s and 2 par 3s (holes 6 & 7). You can see the flag on just about every hole. I believe it is hole 2 and 9 that are the only ones where you can't see the flag. It's a city course so don't expect all the bells and whistles. Gotta give a shout out to Sal. He keeps things fun as the starter, cracked a few jokes, and will give you some pointers. Plenty of parking on the lot. There's no driving range, but there's a green for you to get some putting and chipping in. read more

I visited the golf course, not to golf, but for a soca for breakfast event held on the golf course grounds. With that said, my review focuses on the grounds of the facility and not the actual course and/or staff. My biggest reason for giving the golf course three stars was the parking lot. The gravel covered lot was absolutely horrible! It was hard to drive on and they had piles of the same gravel throughout, further limiting the already limited parking. My friend basically had to park on a gravel pile with the front of her truck partially in the street. They really should do a better job with this lot. As for the grounds, they were beautiful. The lawn was very well maintained. The grounds were free of trash or any other debris. It's is a shame that the parking lot didn't get the same care. As for the soca for breakfast event, it was wonderful. I would definitely consider coming back for other events at the golf course. Hopefully, the issues with the parking lot will be resolved before then. read more

Carroll Park Golf Course is a great course for beginners, like me. The staff are very personable and according to the day, desirable tee times are often available. Right off of I 95, Washington Blvd exit, the location is perfect for all levels of golfers who want to get in a quick round. Being close to downtown, visitors on work travel can sneak in some rounds between meetings. Conversely, I do find the overflow of geese to be annoying. With geese comes... geese poop. So, clean those golf shoes after play. Lol. The grounds are kept relatively ok. Not crazy about some of the greens. However, this is a municipal course and the price is very reasonable. Come out and play at Carroll Park. They'll love to have you. read more

Giving 5 stars because this is a place that you need to know what you're getting into before you hit the links. It's not 5 star quality but for the price (about $20 per round), it is worth it. If you are an experienced golfer who shoots any lower than a 95, you are probably wasting your time and should hit up some other city courses at the least. This is a very small track with no par 5s and is only 9 holes-- to me this place was cookie cut for a beginner that needs to learn the game All of that being said, the pace of play is the worst part. I've played some pretty slow rounds at cp and it seems that they just stack the tee sheet to get as many golfers as possible. Cant blame them as I'm sure Baltimore doesn't funnel much of their proceeds to them and they likely give a higher % to the other 4 city courses. If you are learning golf or wanting to teach a friend, look no further than this 9 hole course. read more

This is a fun little 9 hole course, not too difficult (lots of 320-350 yard par 4's, few hazards, etc). People have mentioned it's in a rough part of town, but it's off an industrial area so it's not too bad. However, the group a little in front of us did find a dead body, not apparently a golfer but a murder victim dumped there (this is Baltimore after all). It's not like there are dead bodies everywhere, but if you encounter one I'd suggest to notify authorities and play according to rule 16 if needed (not 15 -- never move or touch a dead body). Another thing about the course is they also have soccer golf along the same holes. For that you get a tee time and walk or ride in carts just like normal golf, except you're kicking a soccer ball toward the soccer golf holes (denoted by yellow flags) instead of the regular green and flags. There are two soccer holes embedded in each golf hole, so it may seem weird seeing three flags and a "tee" area half way down the fairway, but you get used to it. I didn't see any soccer golfers, but then it is a fairly new sport (last 8 years I believe, and I think new to this course this year). Cool idea, anyway! read more

I, for one, love going to Carroll Park. The previous review is right--it's not for those who are expecting Pebble Beach. It's a community golf course. And, while it is in an industrial area of town, it's nowhere near as dangerous or as disorganized as he would have you believe. There's a lot of different people who come out to Carroll Park, with one thing in common: they just want to play. Soapbox moment--if you're afraid of city things, like pitbulls, having to make sure you're aware of yourself at all times, and running into people who don't look or sound like you--stay in the damn suburbs. For a city golf course, a place that is inexpensive, friendly, and quick to get to, this place is OK in my book. read more

I go to about a dozen courses as like to mix up the terrain I play throughout the season. I cannot exactly tell you why but Carroll is always a favorite. I get that "old predictable friend" type vibe from this course. My friends do too. It's not the hardest course. Its not the easiest course. It's in that zone of comfort that makes more for a great social time with a couple of friends. read more

I enjoyed playing 9 holes here. The course is in surprisingly good condition considering the rough winter we had and the number of golfers who play here. It's an easy course to walk. The pace of play was good on a very busy Saturday. It's not a challenging course but one that's enjoyable for infrequent golfers. I'll play here again. read more

THE Carroll Park is not just a park, it's a cathedral for those that dare to take on the Mount Everest of Baltimore City. The staff is delightful. They get it...1030am on a Saturday is more like catching a red eye. You're hungover and perhaps slightly drunk but you're gonna do the damn thing. Have you ever tried a hotdog outside of Carol Park; well don't because you will never have a better one! I have been golfing here twice/week, all summer and taking private lessons with their golf pro, Mitch. It was a great course to learn on. First, Mitch has been so very helpful in taking me from a non-golfer to someone who could maybe pass as barely mediocre but probably hold my own with friends or business acquaintances. At least I would be worse than whomever I am playing with so perhaps they will feel badly for me and give me the business. Mitch walked us through all the basics at our first lesson (making a tee-time and those unspoken rules, what you are expected to wear/bring and gold etiquette.) Throughout the summer we graduated from putting lessons, sand and pitching wedges, drivers, how to play a sand trap, the proper way to hold a club, where to place the ball in your stance, etc. I learned a lot and when I go play now I hear Mitch's voice in the back of my head, kindly coaching me through my swing. The course is 9-holes and can easily be walked or ridden. Other than the course looking a little swamp like in places after a rain, its very pretty and provides some challenges. There are par 3, 4 and 5s but it's not too difficult. I get abut a 6-8 on each hole and am happy with keeping my score in the single digits. The course is sandwiched on three sides by a scrap yard, a warehouse and I-95. But mostly you can only "hear" these distractions and not see them as you are playing. Hole 8 is my favorite because at the end of it is a random trailhead that you can go on a nice scenic hike through. The prices are VERY fair. $25 for a private lesson for an hour (and Mitch often ended up playing with us for longer. He's a really talented golfer, btw.) or $18-22 to play. I'm bored after 9-holes so this is the perfect course for me. They also rent clubs, sell tees, balls, beer and hot dogs. After coming here all summer long I feel very at home and happy I was able to play and learn here. read more

I can't think of anything more mismanaged than this golf course. My buddy and I were the first ones out this morning, starting promptly at 7:00am. Our pace of play was great. We finished the first 6 holes in 1 hour and 10 minutes. Then we got to Hole #7. Management decided since there was such a back up at Hole 1 that they would put a group of 5 (yes,5!!) ahead of us. Geez, thanks a lot! Next 3 holes took us 1 hour and 15 minutes. Found ourselves waiting at the tee box to tee off for legitimately 15 minutes each hole. Unreal. With our pace of play through 6, we were contemplating playing another 9. Idiotic management practices cost themselves money and a customer. After today, I can't think of any reason why I would ever play here again. Oh, and good job running the sprinklers when we're literally standing on the green putting. How am I supposed to putt with that going on, Doug??! read more

First place i ever played a half round of golf. Went with some guys from work and had a decent time. The grass is bad and there is trash everywhere but it's a city park. Nice place to practice for the cheap. Yes there were locals just cutting through the course but that's the charm. Beer and food(711 style rolling hot dogs) are available. Leave the snobs at home. read more

This is a very nice golf course when you don't have the time to play 18 holes. The fee is easy on the pockets and I enjoy walking the course. My wife doesn't like me coming here, but I've never had any problems playing here. The chipping area is great for working on the short game. read more

If you want to be harassed this is the place for you. I went and played 9 holes last night with my 15 year old brother who was golfing for the first time ever. I called ahead and asked two questions, is the course crowded, and is it a problem if my brother shares my golf bag? I was told that the course was open, and that it wouldn't be a problem to share a bag. When we arrived I could see the parking lot was full, the first tee had a 3 group backup. We decided to play anyway, waited our turn, and drove from the first tee box. Halfway through the first hole a golf cart with two people who work at the course approached us, and told us that we have to play best ball because we only have one golf bag. She then asked me if I know what best ball means. As a person that plays golf 2-3 times a week, I felt insulted, and degraded. I tried to explain that I was told it wasn't a problem to share a bag, and that because the course was that crowded there really isn't anywhere for us to go, she had no level of common sense whatsoever and couldn't understand that. I truly have never dealt with anyone at any golf course who was as rude, and unprofessional as this woman. By the third tee we had caught up to the group in front of us. They were shooting from the blue tee boxes, and hitting multiple drives every hole. The harassment party was no where to be found. They were telling me how we needed to speed up, but I guess hitting from a tee box that is out of your ability level, and hitting 2-3 shots every tee while people are waiting in their mind doesn't slow things down. At the fourth hole there was a water bucket set up, and they were out of the paper cups to fill the water with, maybe instead of harassing golfers they should make sure they are doing their job first. As we were nearing the end of the course I noticed that a guy driving around a golf cart was picking up the flags on holes that people had not gotten to yet, I think its crazy that you pay to play a round and these guys are picking the flags up early because they want to go home. Overall I had an extremely bad experience. As I said earlier if you want to be degraded, and harassed instead of having and enjoyable golf experience than this is certainly the place for you to come. My brother, who as I said earlier went golfing for the first time said that he had such an unenjoyable experience going because of the staff that he may never want to go golfing again. In a sport where youth numbers are low, you would think a golf course would encourage him, and not harass him. Wouldn't recommend this course, would definitely advise going somewhere else, where you can actually enjoy your round of golf. read more

I play at Carroll Park weekly from April through October. The course is in very good shape for a municipal course. In fact, it's probably the best manicured municipal course in the city. The staff is first rate: friendly, courteous, helpful and professional. The pro is a good teacher. Its a great place for families to play and to get 9 holes in before or after work. It is also a very female friendly course. It is quite safe and a very pleasant experience to play there. read more

Good 9 holes for practice nothing more. Not the best shape but I like to play here when I don't have the time for a full 18. Don't pay much attention to the guy saying you need a bulletproof vest and mace. Seems like he should have a vagina between his legs anyways. Yes people will occasionally walk through the course but never seem to bother anyone. Its an inner city course so don't expect a lot and have fun. read more
