Once a nice place to play, it no longer is. I pulled in yesterday and noticed how busy and pristine the sister course, Diamond Ridge, was. I wondered why The Woodlands was wide open. It didn't take long to discover why. Fairways were burned out and had numerous huge bare spots. Other parts of the fairways had turned to weeds. Some bunkers were full of weeds as well. To make matters worse we played about 4 or 5 holes in the "rain" as they decided to water the fairways while we were out there. For $54, I'd expect better from a place that was once respected.

The renovated clubhouse and putting green.

I normally wouldn't write a review of a place that is simply hosting an event, but I have to say…read morethey went so far above the places up here that I'm used to (as someone who works with the hosts). The lighting was flawless. The DJ volume was flawless - you could hear the music and announcements up by the floor, fading as you get farther away so those who want to stay away from the noise can still be in the same room. Food was presented in order, waited on, people willing to help with whatever you need. The bartender saved me a Coke can for my long drive home! (Just in case. Always drive alert.) I'm used to random audio problems, suboptimal room arrangements, and just having to deal with the best we can get. This raises the bar. Thanks to my family for choosing Suburban Club for their event!

We were treated to dinner by members and though the…read morefood was very good, the waitstaff forgot things that were ordered like salads that came with the entree and special gluten-free bread for one member of our party. So I wasn't impressed with that aspect. Also, the service was very slow. Our entrees came right on top of our appetizers. They should have been spaced out better. The chicken tortilla soup was very good and had a little kick to it. The soft shell crabs were good and I am glad I got two as one would have been skimpy. They were pretty expensive for the size when the menu indicated they were large soft shell crabs. They were medium at best! Got the sweet potato fries as I opted for a caesar salad for my second side and vegetable. But as I indicated, the salads never arrived for anyone in our party. I ended up getting the ice cream sundae for dessert. I was pretty sufficiently full but the waitstaff said that it was really good and it was. It was a very good size and left me completely stuffed. All in all a good meal, but when the waitstaff doesn't bring food that is ordered, that is a pretty poor experience. Since we were being taken to dinner here, I didn't argue, but it should not have occurred.

We tried many wines, including: -the Crossvines Cabernet Franc-raisin and almost Nebbiolo overtones; -the Crossvines Barn Door red blend-balanced and warm with a hint of spice yet low tannin; -the Fairway rosé, which was light with great flavor and perfect with spring foods; -and the Riesling and then house ciders, with cherry and peach popular with different people. We settled on a bottle of the White Blend, the "Front Porch". It was not groundbreaking yet likable worked as a clean canvas that went with a lot of foods, not oaky, tangy, sweet, or dry. I enjoyed the butternut squash soup. I watched my friend enjoying the Farmer's Market salad and wondered if I should have gotten that instead! My friend enjoyed her burger and fries. The burger was pretty big and looked satisfying. My friend said the crab dip was really good, too. The best part for me was trying their wines while engaging with our server and the general manager. We talked about some of the events like wine tasting and menu changes and line dancing. We saw more of the gorgeous venue and bookable space for 300 indoors. It was relaxing and enjoyable and while I couldn't eat many items due to a wheat allergy, I definitely wanted to return soon and enjoy the backdrop and support a local winery.
