We had a great lunch from New Dragon today! Quality, price and portion are a deal compared to other restaurants in the area

The Food Bazaar is an interesting mashup of a buffet and a food court; there are 6 food stations each with a different food style and most of the food is either cooked fresh or assembled to order. The price is $ 25 for lunch and $40 for dinner, I got the lunch. Because I am pescetarian I only got items from the seafood station and the Italian station, along with some desserts. The seafood station was not cooking the items to order, but did assemble the food for each order. I tried the Lobster Roll, the Shrimp Cocktail, the Shrimp Ceviche, and the Cod Po Boy. Of the items I tried the best were the Po Boy with nicely fried cod and a good remoulade sauce and the Shrimp Cocktail, with large plump boiled shrimp and a tangy cocktail sauce. The lobster roll was very disappointing since it seemed to be made with imitation lobster and designed to mask the flavor rather then highlight the lobster texture and flavor. The Italian station delivered far better with an order of Shrimp Pesto Pasta and a Marguerite Pizza both of which were prepared fresh. The pizza was good with a tasty crust, tomatoey sauce and fresh mozzarella. The crust was a bit soft in the center and the pizza would have benefitted from some fresh basil or other seasoning. The Pesto pasta was excellent, plenty of herb and garlic, accented with shaved ptarmigan cheese; the shrimp were good although a bit on the small side. I did try the chocolate cake and the Matcha Creme Brulee. The cake was nice, it could have a been a bit moister and the promised sauce was not there. The flavors of the Creme Brulee did not come together with the cold blueberries overpowering the custard. Overall my experience at the Food Bazaar was just OK, which at the price they are charging is not worth a recommendation. Some of the food was really good, in my case it was the Italian food, other food was truly disappointing. Service was good, although nothing special. This is an interesting concept that could be great if the execution were better and more consistent.

It is set up like a college cafeteria with individual stations. It took 30mins to get an order of chicken alfredo and 40mibs to get a smash burger. The food is tasty, but the service is terrible. Not a worker issue, but simply poor management and structure. Will be heading back to Indiana for future casino experiences. Too bad, would love to keep my $ in IL, but not worth the frustration.

Coming from Boston, I had heard the news that Time Out Market is closing its doors (in both…read morelocations!) in the next week, and I was looking forward to seeing what the Chicago food hall looked like. I was surprised to see that the website does allow reservations for large groups, so we booked through Resy a few days before coming. When we arrived at Fulton Market, it took a few tries but we happily found street parking. It was a little bit overwhelming when we first walked in. It feels "bigger" than the original food hall in Lisboa or the one in Boston - not necessarily in square footage, but primarily in energy. It was very busy and especially loud, and there was a DJ booth in the corner that felt closer to a club than a restaurant. I'm guessing part of this might be because it was a Friday night, but curious if it's been busier than normal since the announcement of the market's impending closure. The "reservation" system felt nominal at best, as there weren't any tables set up when we got there - by the time I was able to flag down staff for the food hall, it would have taken quite a while for them to find seats and move them together. In the end we were able to find a corner that worked out pretty well. Similar to the Boston location, you can order online. It didn't feel prominently advertised, as the food stalls themselves all had long lines and were pretty understaffed. In addition, after ordering online, there was no notification that the order was ready for pick-up (for several of the stalls). And while TOM is in a pretty central part of Chicago, the food felt spectacularly expensive for what you were getting. Pretty much everything was over $20 (before tax + tip) for an okay amount of food. On top of that, in our large 15+ person group, the vast majority of us felt that the food was definitively below average quality. Mine in particular was Bill Kim Ramen Bowl's tofu rice bowl. It was a depressing mix of unseasoned tofu cubes, dry arugula, kimchi, plain white rice with no sauce, a handful of pickled veggies, and a half-avocado that wasn't even sliced. It tasted about how it looks. None of that surprises me, but it felt like a far cry from the Lisboa concept, where I was a repeat customer for the high-quality food by distinguished chefs at extremely affordable prices. I'm glad I went, but won't be especially sad to see it go.

Excellent find. Stans Donuts and Coffee, who doesn't love Stan's. They make creative and a wonderfully tasting donuts. It's about $3.50 for a gourmet Donut, ok, not bad. Their logo is the best ! So friendly . Over to get a Delicious Roti! It's an Indian Taco, for those whom don't know. You must try it! Bhomi modern Indian grill. Scrumptious beef with a cabbage mix and a lovely chutney with olive oil herb/garlic mix. $8. So good so good. What a wonderful place for a nice lunch. Stan's Donuts and Coffee is open 7a-5p, Closed Sun. The Bhomi , 11-7 basically. Verify hours please to make sure. There was a bar at the entrance to entertain people. Great potential for other businesses. A bbq spot , a traditional taco spot, Don Javi's would fit here well. Maybe a Chi-SHACK and a Happy Chef. Maybe a classy Mr Sub! In said review, I docked them a star for a disproportionate number of spots having sandwiches by any other name. I even went into Excel and made a pie-chart (true to form as a man in finance!) With Washington Hall, I could create a pie chart, but I don't see a reason to. Their offerings are still growing, but even with what's available now, the selection is awesome. Just going from memory, there is Indian, pizza, wings, hot dogs, Latin-American, Greek, and a Stan's Donuts (and probably a few I missed). The hall, including the restrooms are clean, and there is ample seating, plus more upstairs. The vibe is open and airy. Not as pretty or unique as Sterling, but I'm not really complaining - as long as it's clean and not depressing, I don't care that much. I am looking forward to making my way through trying all the spots within, and giving the bar a go when it opens. Hopefully most of the food vendors will be open in the evening.

The problem is that once you actually GET to Richland Center, especially to try out the food court, you realize it's dingy and unwelcoming. There's 0 charm, half the stalls are either closed OR the folks working in them are either rude or paying no attention (seriously, I want to be a paying customer!), and it's just generally disappointing. It didn't really matter which stall I visited or what selection(s) I was trying to make (while wanting to be mindful of cultural norms, expectations, etc). Also, I don't know who decided to pitch the food court as some hidden gem... first of all, it's literally inside the main doors from the sidewalk and then down a (filthy) set of stairs, but secondly, there doesn't seem to be any attention paid to... well... anything. I get that the mall itself is pretty abandoned... like, I anticipated that (and, unfortunately, it seems to be par for the course in many places these days). I understand the nature of dining at food stalls too... I've frequented many in my travels and I honestly love them and have had some of my best meals, and best interactions, from them... ... but this? This wasn't it. This was not a positive experience. Maybe it's different if you live in the neighborhood, I don't know. But I've never had this kind of experience before. I wouldn't recommend going to Richland Center either, whether it be trying to dine in the food court or anything else.
