Southampton Thai Cuisine - Nice basil chicken lunch special!

Really nice food here. Nice little restaurant. Good service too. My basil chicken was delicious…read moreand a very good size, I had the lunch portion with rice. It came with spring rolls too which were good. Lots of nicely cooked vegetables in there too, good flavour. The sticky rice and mango was very good too. I would for sure come back for a healthy, tasty meal here.

The quality of the food here rivals any Thai food we have had anywhere.... And we love Thai dishes…read more The flavor of each dish was just perfect. The spices, crispy vegetables, light yet flavorful sauces and perfectly prepared seafood, poultry and tofu were the main attractions (rather than heavy, salty, sauces and overly battered, fried coatings). The presentation was also very appealing. Chu Chuee was a new dish for us and it was divine. We live in MI and I will make it my mission to find a restaurant that prepares it. We ordered shrimp though the fish sounded amazing too. It had just a hint of kick which was balanced by the coconut milk. I also really enjoyed the light Coconut soup with white mushrooms, Napa, cauliflower, broccoli, tofu and cilantro. So healthy and bursting with flavor. We were the only ones present late afternoon on a Saturday though the restaurant had a steady flow of Carey out orders. Our server was so friendly and helpful. Charming personality. Her mother is the chef; kiddos to them both for a job well done. The ambience is very warm and inviting. The tab was on par with what we usually spend for a good quality dinner. Southampton Thai Cuisine is such a refreshing choice among the many bar-comfort food restaurants that dot the coastal towns of Lake Huron.

After trying it, it tasted fine, but it was so rubbery and hard to eat - you had to chew on it forever. This fish was obviously extremely overcooked or hadn't been stored properly. My husbands meal was exactly the same. It was all I could do to get that fish into me. We won't be back. A waste of money.

There were a few people making some noise but the place was somewhat subdued. The restaurant really should be called 'The Bare Minimum'. Beer options lacked craft options. The kids Fish and Chips clearly lacked fresh fish and the fries were not only frozen but embarrassing the lowest or second lowest grade of frozen fries. A 'famous' Fish and Chip restaurant should have fresh fries. The wings were overpriced. The hot sauce was Franks. They were over cooked. I could even order a double or a half order on top of what seemed to be a disappointment waiting to happen. The menus were all crinkled and the o unfortunate lack of appetizers was evident. No chocolate milk for the kids. The taste was disappointing at best. If I was the owner, I'd be legitimately concerned about the obvious corners he is cutting. We are to fill our stomachs and not for the love of food. I get it's an attempt at a bar scene as well as Fish and Chip joint. Details and quality matters. I hope the owner puts some genuine love into this place, because it's not gonna last like this.

It was cooked to perfection, exactly the way I ordered it and served with a yummy gravy/sauce, mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. My wife had the mediterranean pasta and she raved about it all night. Dessert and special coffees and the bill with tip was much less than anticipated. This place is a must eat in for any visitors to the Saugeen Shores area!!

Led to an outdoor terrace at the top of the building, with a number of black wrought iron tables, like the outdoor canteen at a golf course. No table covering. No placemats. The cutlery roll up was placed directly on the metal tabletop. Did I say no table covering whatsoever? Every family with a child or teen was brought up to the terrace Hmm. The bill was still over $115. My liver, was possibly a good piece, but cooked to shoe leather texture. 16.95$, which is fine - but the server could ask the preferred cooking style. Pasta was delicious. Wings and ribs a little overcooked but yum. And, the vegetables were perfectly cooked No- We will not be back unless they invest in a roll of craft paper to tear off and make paper tablecloths Cutlery on the tabletop isn't my thing

I asked at the counter if they serve Asian coffees. For some reason the server showed me bags of tea. I repeated that I was interested in coffee and pointed out the poster. She said "Oh that's from his travels." and then "How do they do it?" Before I had a chance to answer, she said in a snide tone "So you don't even know?" Like **I'm** the moron in the conversation. Excuse me, bich? Not only did I not get to speak, "Asian coffee" covers a large range of methods and styles, even different equipment. There is no 2-second answer to "how to make Asian coffee". I said "I do know, but I'm not getting into all that now." She made a face. But even if I didn't know, so what? I'm the *customer*, asking about drinks pictured on the *walls of the restaurant*. It's not my job to know, it's hers. Maybe she was lashing out because she felt stupid being caught not knowing about the posters in her own restaurant that she walks by every day. In any case, she handled it VERY badly. The correct response was "Sorry, no, we don't serve Asian coffee." As for the food, it's just OK. Below the skill level of an average home cook. Its main advantage is being lighter than the other options in town, which lean heavily towards fried food. One bite of the hummus was enough for me - it was ice-cold and sour. The bread was good, but I'm 100% certain they do not make it. The whole vibe is very amateur-hour, right down to the poorly hand-painted sign.
