Had the biggest most filling burger at Elsie's Diner in Owen Sound on the way back to Oliphant for a holiday. They made me a cherry Coke with maraschino cherry syrup which rocked. BTW their deep fried pickles are also amazing! Food was so good and filling we only had chips and wine and pie for dinner. Service was absolutely the best and we ate outside on picnic tables covered in their huge menu. Perfect way to start a holiday away!

Elsie's breakfast with the milkshake of the month (chocolate + strawberry)

This place is the cutest!!! The decor inside takes you back to a retro diner and it is amazing the entire operations is family run. Food portions are HUGE and very faired priced. 10/10 would recommend it to anyone that is driving by!

Great 50's atmosphere.

A great 50's Diner with music and a true 50's decor to really take you back. They say there was no "fast food" on the 50's so prep time is a little longer than some may desire but it's definitely worth the wait. There is a sign on the wall that was purchased by the Diner and they were featured on HGTV's "Buy It, Fix It, Sell It" in 2014 (http://www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca/news_item.php?NewsID=66322)

This is my kind of diner. Huge provocative sign easily seen from the highway boasting about the authentic 50s diner experience caught my eye on the drive up to cottage country past Owen Sound. I wanted to go back and try a burger and fries, but I only had a chance to eat breakfast there. After reading the other review for Elsie's, I had high hopes and I was not disappointed. I ordered the Big Bopper breakfast which was everything (minus pancakes). Three pieces of meat: plump tasty sausages nicely charred on the outside and not greasy, 3 pieces of striped bacon, 3 large eggs, a healthy portion of peameal bacon thick and juicy like a mini steak, a pile of home fries with a generous amount of caramelized onions, and 6 pieces of good ole white bread toast. After my second wind, I finished it all off except for the striped bacon which I gave away. Then on the way out I ordered a delicious vanilla milkshake to top it all off. But what made me give the fifth star? Right outside the door, on the other side of the parking lot was the entrance to a dream of a trail. Part of the famous Bruce Trail system, this park on the edge of Owen Sound is large enough to get lost in (GPS helps) and has a waterfall in it! What an amazing resource to have close enough and compliments the diner food by making it easy to hike off the extra calories. Simply awesome!

Alleged Eggs Benedict. The pale tasteless sauce as as bad as the cold tasteless potatoes

Perched up in the corner of a wrap around strip, this restaurant has big windows looking out over a corner of downtown Owen Sound. The speciality here is sandwiches, and the special that day was tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich, yumm, comfort food. I opted for a peameal, lettuce and tomato sandwich which came on thin sliced wonder bread. The bacon was on the thin side, a perfect amount for a sandwich, and had several layers of nice fresh tomato sliced thinly piled up about an inch high which gave me a nice juicy bite. The cook worked behind an open window and shouted out to me, 'Do you want mayo on that?', I said yes and went back to perusing the odd assortment of feel-good cute kitsch adorning the walls and nooks of the spacious dining room with a decidedly Christian bent to it. Then we noticed it was getting oddly quiet in the room and realized the Closed sign was on the door. It seems we were in there a bit late for lunch and they wanted a siesta possibly? Who knows, but my love affair with these working class diners continue...

Hungry Hangar is literally beside the Keppel International runway so it is a very cool place to watch small planes take off and land while eating. It's so popular with locals that the owners had to ask patrons to keep their stay to 1.5 hours so other customers can also dine with them. Sure enough, mid--way through our meal, a plan landed and taxied right to the window, parked, while the pilot hopped out and walked to the office building next to the restaurant. This is our first visit to Wiarton and we wanted to have breakfast locally. On a Tuesday morning, only two restaurants served breakfast. So glad we chose this one. We both love skillets and chose one with kielbasa sausage and one with thick slides bacon pieces. Our server was so friendly and helpful in describing the menu. We elected to have the sauce on the side; she was really open to meeting our needs. When our skillets came, they were literally medium-sized cast iron skillets, filled with crispy home potatoes, onions, bell pepper, loaded with meat and two perfectly medium fried eggs on top, with just the right amount of melted cheddar cheese. We thoroughly enjoyed HALF of our meals, dabbing our forks in the tangy, sweet sauce and sipping our very fresh decaf coffee. What a comfort meal. We boxed up our other half and will repeat this joyful meal tomorrow morning in our hotel room, though the ambience will not be nearly as entertaining. The restaurant was filled with locals, always a good sign. It's a rather small room with about 8 tables, so there is likely to be a wait on weekends. That's OK. It's worth the wait. The price was very reasonable, especially given the generous portion sizes. We will definitely be returning to try their lunch entrees. The menu looked wonderful, with many tried and true satisfying choices. Definitely out this diner in your list if you are anywhere nearby. And save time to hang around and watch airplanes do their thing.

And that his daughter, Nicole, is also no longer working there. The prices have increased since the last time I was here, but this is understandable given what is happening. Unfortunately the food did not meet the expectations and increased food prices. We ordered the calamari as a shared appetizer. It was tasteless. I opted for the chicken Parmesan and a caesar salad. There was nothing redeeming in the chicken Parmesan...it was so bland. And probably the worst caesar salad I have ever had...soggy crouton and store bought dressing...so bad. I have no plans to return to Ted's.

There were even apple trees in front of their front patio! So cute! Our waiter was friendly and gave SOLID recommendations since it was her dad who started this restaurant. Seems like he likes to experiment lots with flavours and game meats. Here's a summary of the food we ordered: -GET the bison strip loin & mushroom cap appetizer. So savoury and surprisingly well plated. -SKIP the blackened trout. This was a friend's recommendation that fell short for me, the char and smoky seasoning wasn't tasty and the fruit 'chutney' that came with it didn't mesh with the flavours at all Next time we come by, I really want to make it for one of their live music performance night and try their Boar chop & seafood bake!
