I was in a meaty kinda mood and when I get like that I usually head to a Greek or Persian…read morerestaurant for my fix. Tucked away on Bath Street just round the corner from the hustle and bustle of Buchanan Street sits this newly opened family run business. At fist sight, it didn't look all that inviting, perhaps a bit barren and empty even, with just the odd smattering of funky artwork on the wall and some rather plain and sad looking furniture. We arrived at 7pm and it was rather quiet with the stereo playing some Greek pop music. Fortunately after a half hour of so, the atmosphere picked up as the restaurant got busier. The menu looked good, with a range of hearty looking Greek grub, but I didn't really know what I wanted, it just had to contained grilled meat. So, I just asked for the traditional Greek Meze, which is a set meal and very popular in Greece. Surprisingly they didn't offer it, but the owner said it wouldn't be a problem to whip up his favourite dishes and do us a Meze style banquet for us. We polity accepted and waited for the food to arrive. We were treated to some really fantastic dishes. To kick things off; Saganaki Prawns, made with feta cheese and a deliciously rich and tasty tomato sauce. I think we polished off a couple of baskets of bread mopping up the splendid sauce. Furthermore, a wonderfully seasoned and fresh Greek salad and some grilled cheese with tomato and peppers. The main dished comprised of Gyros, which is a pork style kebab, delicious, and skewered, charcoal grilled lamb and chicken with the house's fresh, hand-cooked chips, yum! It fair to say, after all that meat, I spiralled into a deep meat-coma and was unresponsive to any form of chat or questions, hence agreeing to a desert when asked by the waitress. I went for the wonderful and rich Greek yoghurt with honey and walnuts to really finish me off. Fortunately our lovely meal meal wasn't ruined by Greek dancing nor the sound of smashing plates. This was an initial concern of mine as the restaurant is certainly big to accommodate this. Credit should also go to the father / daughter combo who work tirelessly in the kitchen and in attending to the customers needs quickly and with a smile. Oh, one more thing.........if your ever in town and fancy a tasty snack they do a wrapped Gyros to go for just £3.95, total bargain!

I came in for a late lunch--there were only a handful of people in the restaurant but everyone seemed happy enough with the food and immersed in either work they were doing or in the conversations they were having. It is a pleasant enough space (the 1st floor) and definitely has enough room for groups, which is a plus. However, the food was less than satisfactory. I ordered a pork souvalki, which unfortunately they were out of and had to settle for what I thought the next best option-a simple gyro pita. While the presentation was absolutely fine, the meat was just lathered in grease. It looked as though the fat had never been properly wiped off of the meat and that addition oil or maybe even butter had then been placed on top of the fat. There was also too much salt content--which suggests to me that the meat isn't at the quality it should be. Gyro is street food in Greece. But that doesn't make it greasy--it should not be greasy at all in fact. In Greece, the gyro meat stands alone, in that it is not covered in fat, oil, or salt. It is covered with an array of vegetables (which vary depending on the chef and vendor) but usually consists of fresh tomatoes, onions, sometimes fresh and sliced cucumbers, sometimes lettuce, always with potatoes (fries that are lightly fried), and always with a healthy amount Tzatziki. It is absolutely delicious and frankly, should be filling but should not make you feel sick (unless you over eat!) Perhaps Yiamas other food options are better. But on principal, I am not a fan of an establishment that has loads of grease on any of their food items--not a good precedent. On another unfortunate note, I do need to mention that the bathroom did not seem to be properly cleaned as it had a terrible odor. This definitely could have been just an unfortunate and one-time problem but it was an issue on my visit. On a better note however, the staff was nice and helpful--there was very little tzatziki on the gyro and they immediately gave me more when I mentioned it to them. As other reviewers mention as well, the food is reasonably priced. So in the event that the other foods on the menu are have less salt and grease, perhaps it will amount to a better experience.

We loved this restaurant and enjoyed all our dishes. The good thing about small plates, at modest prices, is if a member of your party doesn't care for a dish it's no big deal. The salads, the kebabs, the dips, the seafood... everything was first rate as was the service. Only dish that faltered (and we had 10 among four of us) was the moussaka. Terrific meal! They need to pay more attention to their Yelp listing - there's a full bar, excellent cocktails, and they take credit cards - despite the Yelp listing.

As I get further into my twenties, I've found that restaurants have an increasing tendency to play their music very loud. I'm sorry, and call me old fashioned, but one of the main things about going out for dinner is that you are there to have a conversation with the person you are with. I'm not there to get my groove on. Anyway, I digress. I really enjoy Greek/Turkish and Middle Eastern Food which is what this place specialises in. We chose some mezze plates including the chicken souvlaki, soutzoukakia (meatballs), the Moroccan Chicken Tagine and the Loukaniko. It was mouth watering. It was great value too, the portion sizes were manageable and we left very happy customers.

I am ashamed to say I haven't been, and as someone who is getting fonder of Greek food by every taste, I couldn't wait to try it out. My boyfriend and I had an early dinner here last week and, after searching for it for a while, discovered it hiding around a corner, quite inconspicuous for passers by. However, we quickly realised that this place does not rely on passing trade, but fills the tables instead by word of mouth from loyal customers, some of whom have been coming here for all of its 40 year rein. It was empty when we arrived, and we were quickly seated in one of the stained glass booths which are quite beautiful. The décor of the restaurant is traditional, bordering on old fashioned but warm and comfortable, with an air of familiarity that made you feel right at home. We decided to order from the Early Evening menu (5pm-6.30pm), a two course starter and main for only £9.95 per person. We ordered a bottle of house wine which was lovely and very drinkable, and got down to choosing our meal. We both went for the Bruschetta a la Greque, a large piece of toasted bread topped with peppers, rocket, feta cheese, red onion and olive oil. I have no idea why I ordered it because I don't really like tomatoes and I hate red onion, but it just sort of came out of my mouth! When it came, it was presented beautifully and topped full of ingredients. I picked the onions out, but other than that it was delicious. The rocket and feta were warmed and incredibly tasty, a delicious start to the meal! I ordered moussaka for my main, and was surprised to see it came with a small mountain of fries and salad! I thought it would have came on its own. It was absolutely yummy, real comfort food, although I felt the bechamel sauce topping was just a little too thick for my own personal taste, which made it unnecessarily stodgy. I couldn't finish the fries either, but they were deliciously fluffy on the inside and just the right side of crispy on the outside. Even though I was stuffed I couldn't resist a look at the sweet trolley which I absolutely loved the idea of. The waiter wheeled it round with an array of both traditional Greek and the usual deserts, and I decided to have a slice of dime bar cake, which I have tried before and absolutely loved! With a dollop of cream, it is to die for, honestly! It's a must if you get the chance to visit Costas. We spent a while finishing our wine and chatting, before being brought the bill, which was very reasonable at just over £35. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was lovely and the food was good, but I would love to go back and sample the full menu to get a real flavour for the place.

With that in mind, I thought it high time that I actually met some of the good folks behind the opinions that have steered me right when I was a wee bit lost. I missed out on the last shindig, so I was pleased to get the chance to pop over to the other side of the river for a wee Greek Night. Friday, 7:30pm, 34 Sinclair Drive, the restaurant formerly known as 'The Greek Golden Kebab'. Well, the odd turn of the century décor aside, the restaurant is very cosy and a pleasant place to eat. There were nine of us and we were directed to a long banquet seat, running from the upstairs entrance to the window. Whilst four of our crew chose the mese -definitely not for the faint-hearted - the others went for the more conservative starter/main course combo. The starters were the usual Greek dips - taramasalata, humus, tahini and tzatziki. The mese munchers were treated to a selection in reasonably sized portions of each. They were kind enough - or just couldn't finish it all on their own - to allow us a wee taste of each. They were definitely home made and all very tasty, with the notable exception of the taramasalata, which was just far too salty. Alas, that was the starter I'd opted for. Well, Goldilocks and the Three Bears comes to mind. Think of the biggest, daddy bear bowl of porridge you can imagine and you've got the picture. We're talking HUGE. Did I mention that it was super-salty? The mese looked amazing. And so much of it! They just kept bringing it on. Incredible value for just under £19. Honestly, unless you're absolutely ravenous, you won't be able to do it justice. I wimped out and chose the Stifado. Delicious! I was a bit thrown by the puff-pastry topping, but the slow-cooked beef melted in your mouth...Mmm! Team mese, whilst still capable of conversation, were starting to flag. Let's face it, they were working their way through a week of calories and the annual salt allowance of a South African Miner in one sitting. The beer was reasonably priced too at around £3 a bottle. I didn't check, but I'm sure the same will apply to the wine. They were also very happy to supply you with cool tap water with ice. Definitely a thumbs up for Frosoulla's.

Sadly, after some 40 years it closed two weeks before our outing and opened over the road under the new name Frosoulla's. It's a nice space with a small amount of seating downstairs and then a larger dining area upstairs. There is a high ceiling with chandeliers, lots of black and white - it's modern, but still a bit outdated at the same time, more like the early-2000 idea of modern. Anyway, it's unoffensive so not really a big deal. There was a large table of 9 of us and we were seated along the wall on bench seating. Bench seating is such a pain where there's a large group, I kind of wish that places wouldn't do it. Especially when it's sweltering hot and you stick to the seat as well. I had a look over the menu, which is really long and features a lot of options as well as a mezze (4 course meal). I couldn't face that much food after a long, hot day coming back from London so I went for taramasalata as a starter (with pita) then a chicken shis kebab and a side of halloumi. The taramasalata was an incredibly generous portion - honestly, far too generous for one person to eat on their own. I'm going to guess and say it was the size of a tub you'd buy in a supermarket, something like 200g worth. It was obviously made in-house though, as the flavour was really strong and fishy, verging on too salty but thankfully more palatable with the bread. For main, I was impressed by the shis kebab which was again, a huge portion served on a massive plate with rice as well as tzatziki. The kebab had chicken as well as peppers on it and the chicken was juicy and succulent even though the pieces were massive. I was very impressed (but alas, I couldn't eat it all!). The halloumi wasn't great, it was a lot more chewy than how I cook it at home. I like mine to have a crispy outside and soft inside, whereas this seemed more like it was lightly grilled. I also ordered a cocktail which was a huge disappointment - firstly, it didn't even taste alcoholic, and it looked like a really sad mojito. It tasted more like soda water than anything else, and I could see the grains of sugar floating around and not mixed in properly. So be warned, this is not a place for cocktails even if they do seem like really good prices. I liked visiting this new south side place, I wish I had been able to see what Greek Golden Kebab was like before it closed but at least I know you can get a lot of food here for a pretty good price.
