Great quality, really nice inventory and easy access to everything in the store. HOWEVER, service is non existent. We went recently due to a remodel in our home. Looking for master bathroom lights and mirrors. Walking into the store we were greeted and directed to the lights we were interested in. Spent 15 minutes looking. No one came to see if we needed help. Three employees, no customers except us and they couldn't be bothered. All staring at computer screens. It's really awkward and I'd rather just leave. I would not have posted, but this happened when I bought out door lights! I had to wait at the counter until someone finally offered to help. We were literally ignored. I spent over $2,500 (not much, but enough that you would think they'd show some interest). Loved the quality and why we came back. My guess is they work on large remodels or new construction and spend most of their time and effort working on large quotes. My husband and I went into the store today (5/15/24). Not one person greeted us. Walked around for about 5 minutes looking and looking at the people at the service desk. I have lived in Fort Collins for 47 years and have used the light center for new home construction and remodeling. In the past I have not been impressed with service. The ladies at their computers, not really showing me they were interested in my project. . . exact same complaint as Chris G. Fast forward to 2024. I walked in and Simon K. immediately greeted me. . Wow. He immediately took my fixture, found the correct replacemen, which was not an easy fix. I was so impressed, I immediately went back into the store to explain another problem I was having with another lamp. He cheerfully said, "Just bring it in and we will trouble shoot it." I was so excited someone was interested in my little projects, I brought the lamp in the next day. I immediately scanned the desk for Simon. I wanted this young man and only this young man to help me. He was present and immediately went to work on my problem, solved the problem, and treated me like he wanted to help. In addition he gave me a quote for switches and receptacles. This quote was sent the same day, was very clear and met all my needs. This young man needs a raise. He is the PR customer service go to for the Light Center. The best thing the Light Center could have done to improve their business. read more

I purchased a ceiling fan from the Light Center about a year and a half ago. Last week the fan and the light stopped working. I called the Light Center and they sent a tech out and he had it fixed in 10 minutes. Seems the controller needed to be reprogrammed. I never would have been able to figure that out. My family and I went into the Light Center on Saturday afternoon, January 11, 2020. No one acknowledged us and we encountered 3 different employees. Not a smile or a nod. Nothing. Since it was a Saturday, there were a few customers in the store but not so many that we deserved to be passed over. We even thought, surely this can't be? We circled the store TWICE. Unfortunately for this store, you just lost a ton of business. We are building a new home in Timnath and were there to shop for multiple rooms. We believe in customer service as well as first impressions and this store failed us in both areas. We will not be going back. read more

This place has a TERRIBLE return policy and I advise people to be very careful when making a big purchase from this store. If anyone has done a home re-model, you know things can ultimately go wrong and they do. There are TV show dedicated to bad work done on homes and then once you embark on that journey personally, you realize then why they exist. We recently purchased a home in this state and hired a terrible contractor in the Boulder area. Long story short we had to fire him and hire a competent person. Turns out the big mirrored medicine cabinet for the bathroom we are remodeling was the wrong type. Everything is was still in the packaging and only the top of the box was opened. So I called Norris at the store and told him about my situation. We purchased the cabinet thru the contractor as that's how he made money but we had the original receipt and wanted a simple exchange for a cabinet that would actually work with the space. He said there was restocking fee and a shipping fee back to the company and was not going to help me. I asked and plead with him but he was extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. He said he would check on prices on how much this return would cost and call me back within an hour. Well guess what? It's been 7 hours and not a call. They may be friendly but if you buy something and try to exchange it everything will definitely change in a flash. If small companies don't have friendly return/exchange policies especially on big ticket items or anything that has to do with a home remodel they will ultimately be driven into the ground. I love supporting small businesses that support their customers in return but when they pull this kind of stunt it's not acceptable. I have told everyone I know about this business treated me today and will continue to do so because I'm finding out consumers don't have much rights and they need to know. If this is your first time remodeling a home go to Home Depot. They have great exchange/return policy and trust me, there will be some returns. read more

BEWARE! The Light Center is staffed by truly awful people. My wife shopped the Light Center for a unique light fixture she planned to give me for Christmas. When I opened the (sealed!) box Christmas morning, the box had only styrofoam! WTF?! Why would a sealed box be missing the product? THEN, when we go to get our purchase ($160) they were straight jerks about it. Rude doesn't begin to describe their attitude. Apology? Nope. It was such an awkward discussion (bordering on a dispute). They could have easily made this right by making the process simple. A mea culpa wouldn't have been too much to ask for either. Instead, they spoke to us like we were children. Nice holiday attitude. They basically sold us an empty box and didn't care in the slightest. Swindlers! Scoundrels! Miscreants! I recently moved into a new house I've been so impressed with the Light Center. A few things come to mind: 1) Friendly AND knowledgeable service. There are a lot of ways to go wrong with lighting and lighting design (I've had bad experiences at other places). To see such a contrast here was so refreshing 2) Selection -- It could be luck, but when I didn't know what I wanted, I could find it by browsing the store, or when browsing wasn't enough, the staff directed me to something that worked very well. In another case, we saw something in a catalog, and they were able to order it at a very good price. 3) Eco-friendly -- lots of LED and CFL-based lighting options -- great since we're trying to move to that technology now. Their lighting room allows you to see the kind of light that various lights put out, which helped us make the right decisions since CFL works a bit different than old-school incandescents. 4) Prices -- VERY competitive, in fact as good as I've seen in town. We bought a Tech Lighting low-voltage "Kable" light kit for our basement bar project. Not only was the whole kit unbelievably expensive ($1400), but it was also ugly as hell. Looked like something a redneck would have hanging in his living room for "decoration". Either way, the electricians hooked it all up. The LEDs kept blinking for starters, which the store said was a cable gauge issue. Nope. Then they replaced the transformer, which got the lights working, at least. Less than a week later after we started using the basement, the LEDs started going out one at a time, with one of the heads heating up and almost smoking from an apparent short. So we spent $1400 on a crappy bar light from these people. No return policy? Yeah, well I don't plan on ever returning. Do yourself a favor and don't go there at all. read more

But then I figured I should try a specialty store for better customer service (there are a number of factors to consider, some guidance would be nice) I just walked 3 slow laps around the Light Center floor. We started a remodel project before the shutdown and made it into the showroom for just a short visit but thankfully connected with Clay who guided us online to find just what we needed. We went into the light center to purchase a chandelier because we have made several purchases there in the past and like the quality of the products. However on our most recent visit we were completely ignored by the staff. There were 4-5 staff and one other customer. They all seemed to be engaged with their phone/computer or having conversations with each other. No one even acknowledged we were there. This was not like our previous experience so hoping it was just an off day. Our next stop was Lamps Plus they were very helpful and we ended up making our purchase there. read more

Lighting certainly makes the home. The Light Center turned our house into a home. Jennifer, the owner, was instrumental in our remodel. She helped us choose the right fixtures for each space (not just what would technically and specially work, but selected stunning pieces that elevated each space from a design standpoint). They helped us work with dimmers for each room (explained that it is like music - you want different volumes for different moods). The customer service we received was exceptional. And the very best part: this is a family-owned and run business, which we love. I have replaced and updated all the fixtures and fans in my house as well as many in my Mom's house with great quality selection they provide. They offer options for every taste and budget. The attentive and knowledgeable staff (Leah) works hard to find what your looking for from something as simple as an unique bulb replacement to updated an entire house lighting package. This is a great spot to find fun accessories and artwork as well. I found a cool decorative mirror to update my bathroom and even found a coordinating light fixture. Worst customer service! Overpriced. They carry the same things you can find online for half the price and less hassle. For $85 you can have them come to your house for a light consultation. You could get the same advice for FREE from experts on Houzz. Their employee told me that they wouldn't be able to get back to me for several weeks because they had personal issues they needed to deal with. And, if I didn't hear back, to contact them. WHAT?? We've had The Light Center do three different light plans for extensive remodel projects and they all turned out great. Norris helped us pick out great products to fit the plan. One time I left a light bulb I bought and Norris dropped it off at my house. That's service! Huge selection, competitive prices, great service, knowledgeable staff...shop local instead of Home Depot. I bought a new ceiling fan at The Light Center, and the sales person was so knowledgeable about all the different options and styles that I was amazed. I brought my wife there to help me decide, and she finally found the chandelier for over our dining room table that she been looking for at all the big box stores for months. They just have better stuff, and better trained people, and it costs (a tiny bit) more because it's better quality, it will work better for your application. Yes, you can buy a lamp at Target for less that looks ok but this store is well worth visiting for their unique, affordable options. My favorite is the lizard lamp made out of eco-friendly materials with the lamp shade made out of banana leaves. Very cool. They also have a good amount on sale and affordable lamps for kids rooms.
