I went to the Lido for the Updating after-party. By the way, the show at the Rio Theater was awesome. Anyway, at the Lido after-party one of the women who was a dater on the show showed up. While on stage at the shows she was completely drunk. This woman starts talking to me for a minute and then she mingles with others at the party. A while later I see her and her sister walk towards me so I start talking to her again. I'm a young-looking 61-year-old man and she is 22. At no point did I touch her or ask for her phone number or indicate in any way that I wanted to pursue anything with her. I wanted to talk to her because I found her behavior on stage at the show to be outrageous. She was upset that an older man like me would even talk to her and asked me why I was even at the pub. I told her it's because I like the Updating show and I want to meet Brandon and Harrison, who are the hosts of the show. A few minutes after this conversation, a woman who works at the Lido approached me and asked me to leave. Apparently, that 22-year-old woman complained to the Lido staff that I was harassing her. The Lido staff automatically took her side without hearing my side of the story. On the way out the door, I asked the Lido staff member who asked me to leave to hear my side of the story. She was nice enough to step outside with me to hear me out But then another female staff member who looked very masculine barged out towards us in a very aggressive manner and shouted at me to get the eff out (using the real word, not eff). She wouldn't let me talk to the other staff member who was outside with us. I asked her to hear my side of the story but she became even more aggressive and threatened to call the police. Obviously, in this age of the #MeToo movement, the Lido staff automatically believe anything a woman claims against a man without allowing the man to present his side of the story. Pros: - chill staff - chill patrons - cheap drinks ($6.25 for a gin/water lime) - people watching type of place - tons of free street parking - bus stop right outside Cons: - cash only $$$ honestly I only carry plastic and it's always a punch to the gut to pay the $3 transaction fee w the private ATMs - loud music to talk over - loud voices talking over loud music to talk over - it's loud - limited seating, tons of people end up standing and do the vulture dance around tables that look like they're about to leave - only one bar/bartender that night and a bar packed w people so def a bit of a wait to get served read more

Vancouver needs more places like this, hands down. Very artsy, warm, comfortable. Happy hour is 4-6. Cash only. Having moved from LA to Vancouver recently, I had pretty much accepted the groovy, laid back, hipster dive bar didn't exist in my new city. So glad I found the Lido. Felt like coming home! read more

Great neighbourhood pub. Cool interior and decent pricing. You don't always have to go to Main street or Commerical for a drink! No food, so plan to eat before or after as part of the evening. read more

The bar is nice and not too over crowded . The ambiance is great, music isn't the greatest . The drinks are awesome . The drink menu didn't have a lot of choices, but the bartender was able to make what we wanted . I had a great time there and will go back again . read more

I really dig this place for working, reading, or meeting friends for a pint. I don't think The Lido knows how central it is to local well-known designers, writers, and artists - many of whom I have run into here - and I think it has a lot of potential, especially as a low-key music venue. It's a really nice, boozier, foil to other spots in the neighbourhood. Growing the food menu with some cheap pub fare would take it to the next level, but I'm already in love with the place. read more

I visited last week and it was an okay atmosphere if you like dingy. A plus is apparently you can bring food in as I definitely like food with my brew. Not many taps which I would have thought given its drinks only focus. Had an odd interaction with the bartender. Without going into details, as it might be me, I think the fact that they only take cash must be awkward many times a day. Why not just take credit cards? Tap makes transactions very fast these days. Location wise it is a little out of the central strip on Broadway but side benefit is easy parking. read more

The air of arrogance and lack of genuine caring for its customers seemed contradictory to the neighbourhood with in which it is situated of people who want to get to know each other and are so welcoming. You would think that a bar would except credit cards but nope, not here. However, they do provide you an ATM machine to take out cash with an additional fee of what was it, $2.50? Insane. I thought the place was kind of cool at first, with us having to go up to the bar and all to order our drinks, even though we were seated at a table. But as I approached the bar the 2nd time and asked the waitress after receiving eye contact, "Can I have a white wine please, when you get the chance?" the waitress said very rudely, "can you just wait a minute" with a very unpleasant look on her face.. the place wasn't even busy... then she walks off to the stock room pretending to do something important and returns with nothing in her hand... my view of the place went from a 5 star (very neat place) to a '0' star (if possible). What's even funnier is that the waitress continued to be a b***** every time I went up to order! This place is cash only (Translation: hipster trendy) I have a problem with an establishment that won't install a debit machine but is more than happy to have you spend $3.00 on their stand-alone ATM to get your cash out. There is no table service, no food served (maybe some peanuts) and no atmosphere. Disappointed. read more

I went to The Lido last night for the first time since I live around the corner. What a great place to enjoy a drink with no pressure from the wait staff. I never really enjoyed it when a server would ask if you needed a refill when you've had half of your pint. At The Lido, you buy your drink up front at the bar, find a seat and enjoy the environment and your company. A great place to grab a drink on a weekday. Will definitely return! read more

This pub (and it's actually a pub - seemingly a rarity in this town) is the best I've found so far in Vancouver. The beer is great, happy hour prices are cheap and the music is consistently good. I like that they're brave enough not to bother serving food and keep the emphasis on good drinks, music and atmosphere - weary of the terrible menus other places around here offer. Staff are super welcoming and the crowd is friendly. Other reviews call it a 'hipster' bar - these writers are insecure and prejudiced. No negative vibes here. Support this place! I'll be drinking on a park bench if it ever closes. read more

Very poor experience here. It was almost dead at about midnight on Friday, I came in with about 8 people, all in our 30's. We took a seat and ordered drinks. The staff were rude, and refused to serve one of our friends although he was fine. Perhaps we were smiling too much to be acceptable patrons. A few super depressed looking people sitting in the shadows and bad music. Dont waste your time. read more

Decided to try this place while we waited for Barbarellas to open (which I highly recommend) and strolled in just after 4pm when they opened. We were the only people there. First off the bartender said "there is only bar service so come up to the bar when you are ready" which I thought was odd. We were happy to cash and carry but it was far too much work for her to walk 20 feet to our table to take our order. We ordered 3 drinks through the haze of bar flies and went and took a seat. After making our drinks she yelled over the music "so that will be $15". I also thought that was not exactly quality service and walked up to pay the tab for the 3 of us - as again it was far too much effort to deliver our drinks. Because of the minimal and borderline rude service I decided to leave only $1 tip. I don't actually think it's THAT bad of a tip but she definitely did. After we sat down I glanced over and she picked up the loonie, rolled her eyes like a spoiled little child and slammed the loonie down on the bar and walked away. Unfortunate, as we had loved the cocktails and openly stated that we would be staying for another few rounds. If the owner of this establishment reads this, you should know that the girl working spent the entire time behind the bar texting on her phone in front of clients and standing around staring out the window - looking miserable in general and not interacting with any new patrons or working in any way.
