The music they play differs from night to night, but usually includes the best reggae and a range of rock n' roll. Two tequilas later and you'll settle right in! In a country where binge-drinking is a problem, Suburban displays a funny, apt pro-drinking slogan near their backdoor. You should read it! Cocktail wise I'd recommend the tangy Seabreeze, a cranberry concoction, or the wonderful F.B.I which features coffee liqueur, Bailey's, vodka and ice-cream. Hang around long enough, and you may even be inducted into the Suburban Wall of Fame.

So I got the spinach, lentil and quinoa burger on a sourdough bun sans chips, for £11. The waitress asked if I wanted anything on top and I said no, deeply regretting my decision when the burger arrived. It was so dry, despite the little bits of chili sauce bits atop the burger, and completely tasteless. The bun had a fine dusting of flour atop that sprinkled everywhere. Dense and chewy bun but still lacking flavour. A few greens were sprinkled on the side. The venue is pretty cool with an ornate stage and gold lamé curtains, and red leather sofas, so I would give more stars if just for the venue. But I can't get over that sad, sad burger. There's also a vegan stew on the menu but with no description of what it is, I wouldn't trust it either. Dog-friendly so that's a plus!

A short bar with a few chairs and tables dotted around and a peculiar pair of large black double doors. Down the rabbit hole we go, for behind the black doors is a proscenium arch with tables, comfy chairs and chesterfields scattered around the auditorium. A rather impressive and welcoming space, that has played host to many a comedy night. A pub worth keeping an eye on, as it has been know to birth some pretty special comedy talent.

Food is great, drinks are plentiful and back then it seemed a lot of regulars were visiting the pub daily. The owners are good. The lady was fantastic, the husband can be obnoxious sometime but he is a no nonsense kid of a guy. The lady of the pub is actually an American, which of course was a plus. They were very nice to our daughters and had no problems making them food that was not on the menu. BTW if you like meat this is your place! Owners are dog lovers and their two dogs were always at the pub. They were great and friendly. They just lay on the rug and mind their own business. We were in London for 8 days and visited this pub at least once a day. Our girls loved the puppies and made sure we stopped every day. I would highly recommend this place.

It hosts events, live music, and taster sessions on certain nights to get the community involved. We had a drink here as a stop off before a birthday party and it was a really great space with a wonderful selection for its size. There is an open fire which we couldn't make the most of as it was mid-summer. I peeked at the beer garden but it was slightly too chilly and dark to check it out properly. Will put it on the to-do list for next time! That will go next to 'trying the food' which is already on the list. The menu features hearty pub food classics and the establishment boasts that its bread and meat come from the local baker and butcher. Seems to be the epitome of the idea behind the original 'public house': community, good food/drink, and good company.

I had the Espresso, in fact I think I may have bought a bottle of it, and there was an Oatmeal stout when I went in that isn't on the website, but there was a beer festival going on in the pub at teh same time, so things are a little hazy. The pub is old and charming and has all the papers and so on, but I suggest getting bottles to take away and having a picnic on the huge green (why isn't this place recognised??)

This means a natural open fire, a lot of Dark Star local ales, darts, billiards and boardgames, all wrapped up with wooden floor and rustic decor. The staff are friendly and up for a chat if you are on your own and the music is a mix of rock and staple classics from the 60's-90's. Very pleasant. The negative is a bit subjective and goes back to a New Year's Eve a couple of years back. They were having a bad taste fancy dress party and we had Brightonian ideas of costumes such a suicide bombers, KKK members, Robert Mugabe and a gimp! We even phoned in advance to make sure that we weren't overstepping the mark and we were assured that our attire would be fine. Imagine the moment we strolled in clad in our risque attire to find no-one in fancy dress!! Even the staff had only managed flares and floral shirts. Needless to say, our extrovert attempts didn't go down too well and we managed to drink defiantly for about 2 hours before escaping before we were lynched on the common. Whether this is really a fault of the pub or us taking the bad taste theme a bit too far is debatable, but if you were going to the pub for such an event then dress down and not up!! Restaurant area has been moved to the other side and there are lots of seats and sofas which make the place look inviting. There was a crowd in for the football which was on a big screen but they were all good spirited and friendly. The place is well on the way to being a great community meeting place in the Furzedown area. Loved how culturally diverse it was and a few children dotted about gave the place a lovely feel. Will definitely be returning.
