My most recent visit was when I went last month with some friends after the Reading vs Everton game. I enjoyed the experience. We met the new owner who is a big, friendly Australian. Also equally big and friendly was the St. Bernard roaming around the pub at the time. I loved the laid back atmosphere and charm.The outside area had a burning fire, fairy lights and nook near the end with a pool table and television. There is also a boxing machine- we all tried to beat the current record held by the owner but didn't succeed. The bar staff was friendly at the time and even though it was crowded I was served quickly. Prices are not cheap but no more than other pubs I've been to. On my previous visit -not sure if it was before change in ownership- I had the fish and chips which was so delicious and fresh considering I was expecting a reheated frozen dinner . I think this place ticks all the right boxes if you're looking for a warm and cozy place to watch sports or spend time with friends.

They may not have the best selection of lager but once you're there you don't mind. They have a lovely, green and well taken care of beer garden. This is a big bonus, especially during spring and summer. There is a roof over it, so even if it rains you can still enjoy sitting outdoors. We almost always get free treats as well; chips, sausages, mini burgers, sandwiches etc. which is very nice, they are all very good at making you feel welcome and appreciated as a customer. If you haven't been yet, give them a chance, pop in, you wont regret it!
