We ate here on a Sunday lunchtime, in early May 2011. We were quite surprised to be the only ones in there, though six people arrived as we left. Virtually dead.
On the shaded side of the street, and mostly done out in dark wood the place seems dark somehow. But this restaurant was neat and clean, I have to say.
We were looked after by the friendliest waitress ever. She couldn't do enough for us and our little boy. Though later on, as we finished our meal, we found we were the ONLY people in there. By that, I mean the staff had all disappeared! We did feel slightly abandoned for five minutes or so until staff reappeared.
The food was rather nice. I had the fish and chips and my wife had the burger. No complaints at all for food at this price. However, we ordered the garlic ciabatta sticks for our boy and only got three when we've always been given four at other Slug & Lettuce locations. Not sure why they were mean here.
We followed with two desserts for the price of one (a constant offer here making desserts £2.50 each instead of a fiver each). They were delicious if a touch small, though no smaller than anywhere else these days I hasten to add and with one being free, you couldn't feel short-changed.
So, much cleaner than some Slug & Lettuce restaurants and some lovely service and good food. I just wish we hadn't been abandoned for that small period (we wanted our plates taken away and to order dessert but no-one was there). And why only three ciabatta sticks when you get four at others in this chain? read more
